ARCHIVED Has Any Of The Older Member ?
chasbari replied to Karl Otto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeast infections can be secondary to antibiotic use and are not limited to females. Much more common that I think most realize. Of course, this plays right into my theory of antibiotic overuse and its impact on the function of the gut flora. It's a potential origin for the breakdown of the function that may lead to many other complications. Hope you get to... -

Have you had your gall bladder function checked out? I have a working theory on the whole gut flora damage thing going on in my head but am no researcher. I happen to think that disruption of a healthy gut flora may be a cause of many problems ultimately. Don't know where this fits for you. I know I wasn't digesting fats early on and had a problem with... -

I do understand why you are wanting to get some context by looking back. If I could suggest that you check out something that might be helpful I would say go look up Robb Wolf's Paleo site. They are doing some incredible things with blood sugar derangement issues. From where I was nearly four years ago to now, I would try to be encouraging to you. I was ready... -
ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
chasbari replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Truth be told I am becoming more convinced that symptoms like this, my own included, have their roots in gut flora damage caused by antibiotics among other things. Unless and until that is re-established the food list will just keep shrinking. The pro biotics I took just made things worse, definitely not anywhere close to a full spectrum of proper gut flora... -
ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
chasbari replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just a quick aside. I could not tolerate pasteurized dairy but the raw dairy was no problem unless you count the fact that I had to drive out of state to get it! I had a very specific reason I was taking this. There are several discussions relative to this including one on antibiotics as a trigger for onset of symptoms where I discuss this in more detail... -
ARCHIVED Sick Or Starving/any Advice?
chasbari replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So many good suggestions thoughtfully given. I certainly hope you find a solution. Vegan or not, I think you might want to consider whether you are having any issues with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.) I know that seemed to be a real problem for me. It seemed to give me the impression that I might be dealing with fructose malabsorption . I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine Anyone?
chasbari replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My understanding is there are people with the celiac gene who are able to eat gluten for a time without having any symptoms whatsoever. It is only after an environmental trigger, and there happens to be a whole discussion with pretty convincing anecdotal evidence linked to antibiotic use for one, that many here began to have full blown celiac symptoms. Please... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine Anyone?
chasbari replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do think that not only is diagnosis on the rise but that the actual manifestation of it is also on the rise. It is possible to have the genes and never manifest as having the disease. I think that several things play into this. Look at the purposeful increase in gluten content of wheat and wheat flour over the last century as one factor. I also hearken... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine Anyone?
chasbari replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dietary compliance isn't as difficult as they want us to believe. With all the autoimmune issues resolved for me by switching to SCD paleo based nutrition, I never want to go back. I really don't miss the good old days considering how all those" yummy foods" were making me so ill. It's bad enough that we have been one giant experiment in food modification... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I Am Being Left Out
chasbari replied to Karla01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The fact that a nursing staff is incapable of understanding the significance of this speaks to me of a much deeper concern here. Just saying. I understand your frustration. -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Who Decided To Be Completely Grain-Free?
chasbari replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Now this is where I totally agree with your skepticism. When I started looking into some supposed helpful supplements for this I was astonished to read things like "although no studies have been done to show this, it is suspected..." Yikes! Seem suspect to me. I am also going radically in the direction of if it can't be managed by proper diet and rest I am... -

HFCS.. evil on so many levels. Pretty outrageous bill there as well. Covered? Question it all anyway. All the more reason to question what was on that bull.. er, I mean .. bill. -
ARCHIVED Here's A Weird One... Sunburn
chasbari replied to DianeMu's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's ok to whine here but wear sunblock next time. I know I was very pale for the first year or so after going gluten-free as I had many deficiencies. My skin color has gradually improved but I did get flash burn on my forearms the other day from not having full sleeves when I was welding. Never used to be that much of a problem but sure was this time. -
ARCHIVED Antibiotics Stopping The Symptoms - Have You Experienced This?
chasbari replied to catarific's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am now in the third week of my whole milk/raw milk experiment. It has been quite a ride thus far. I have also been eating a quantity of coconut oil for the capryllic acid to knock down any yeast overgrowth as well. I went into a flare last week of what seems to be reminiscent of a severe viral infection I had twenty five years ago complete with rash and... -

Antibiotic mediated gut flora dysbiosis: A hypothesis based on anecdotal observation. Texts influential in formative thought in this matter: "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" Weston Price "Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health through Diet" Elaine Gottschall "Good Calories/Bad Calories" Gary Taubes Synopsis of the Human Microbiome... -
I already told the story but.. my family got together for my birthday and had ice cream, cake and goodies.. nothing for me.. and, oh yes, they know about my dietary restrictions. They sure had a good time. Is it enough to drive you crazy? Sure. I just don't care anymore. No one there seemed to think I would feel left out or bothered. Oh well. I don't trust...

ARCHIVED Toxicity Of GMO Foods
chasbari replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep. The real world is becoming pretty surreal. Unfortunately your scenario is much more likely to play out than the one where doctors finally get it and give us correct diagnoses. oh... and correct treatment as well. Looks like we are left to look out for ourselves. (feeling pretty cynical, I am!) -
I just keep rolling my eyes in disbelief at all the commercials now anyway. I just keeping checking off another med I will never need.. Oh, and the HFCS commercial where the one friend is educating the other one on how it's just as good as sugar... yeah, sure. I'll by the Brooklyn bridge AND that swampland in Florida..

I am currently reading the Taubes book.. worth the struggle to get through for certain. I had to laugh, I was just reading the Yahoo story on school lunches in Chicago in the context of the book and movie and just had to laugh my cynical ironic laugh as to how wrong they may be. Not even counting the whole free choice thing...

ARCHIVED Antibiotics Stopping The Symptoms - Have You Experienced This?
chasbari replied to catarific's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been reading up on the specific carbohydrate diet approach to all of this and recommend the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health through Diet" by Elaine Gottschall. There was a link in another thread to some video of her being interviewed. Interesting stuff. Basically a proponent of reestablishing a healthy gut flora through dietary... -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Who Decided To Be Completely Grain-Free?
chasbari replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have been grain free without resolution of my issues and just got and read Elaine Gottschall's "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" Intestinal Health through Diet" book on the specific carbohydrate diet. I am sorry I didn't get this some time ago. Fast read and interesting as well. I think it may be a better starting point than a paleo diet. -

And this is surprising because......? Not to you and me.. How vain and foolish to think we can just mess with this stuff without truly waiting for the long term consequences to be determined. This Pandora's box had the knot untied far too quickly. How do they undo this if it is even worse than this? -

I am having a hard time letting this go. The little girl they cited in the Microbiome article had, for all intents and purposes, a gut flora transplant. It seems they inadvertently cleared the way, much like a bone marrow transplant is prepped by destroying or sterilizing the bone of the faulty marrow. In this case the antibiotics they were using may have... -
ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Who Decided To Be Completely Grain-Free?
chasbari replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have done so by adhering to a paleo diet. It makes gluten free very easy for me. No grains. I still have a ways to go with healing but have never felt better.. relatively speaking.
