ARCHIVED Other Than Wheat, Rye, Or Barley
mattathayde replied to skluever's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
some people have hidden allergies that can be causing things. as to the gluten alone, spelt was something i thought was gluten-free but its not. i didnt react as bad to it but had some reactions. some people are so sensitive they cannot use soaps or the like the gluten in them. as to the vinegar and alcohols that have gluten, i personally do not believe... -
ARCHIVED What Are Your "glutened" Symptoms?
mattathayde replied to LauraZ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my main symptom is the lower intestine stuff, diarrhea, bloated, gassy etc, when it gets bad constipated diarrhea (luckily i figured out my main accidental glutenings). the mental/emotional stuff i would get slightly depressed (specifically about being single and feeling slightly alone in general) some times anxiety for no reason, and just feel kind of out... -
the aussies are working on a vaccine that may cure celiac. personally i am not to convinced that a vaccine could really do a whole lot but the docs probably know something i know not. Open Original Shared Link -matt

ARCHIVED What Is With All The "look Out For Gluten In ~ Insert Toiletry Item~"
mattathayde replied to mattathayde's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ya the only real thing i can think of is if the news paper you use to shape the glass was processed with gluten or CC from using the pipes with others, but at that point if your getting contaminated enough to mess with you general living causes issues too -matt -

i guess that makes more sense. as to the gluten-free chap stick i know burts bees is gluten-free but i am not sure off hand if it is on a gluten-free line to the art supplies, i guess im lucky i hadnt gone gluten-free when i had to use that kind of stuff last year in my art foundation classes and now the majority of what i am using is rather inert... -

im not trying to blow off the idea that it does affect but more so how common gluten is in these items, i dont know what is in make ups but just from looking it really seemed like the majority of big name brands were all gluten free. i saw there was a good amount of them that say they cannot guarantee gluten-free because the ingredients are from places that... -

i totally understand the point of looking out for it and all but i guess what i was really trying to get at is that it seems to me that very few products have gluten in them. maybe i just happen to use things that are totally gluten-free -matt -

ok so i am a bit confused, i see a lot of this type of warning here yet it looks like the list of those things that contain gluten is much much smaller than those that dont. from my quick research it looks like every major brand of tooth paste is gluten-free and while i havent gotten to look into it much it seems like most soaps, body washes, shampoos, etc... -

ya, and i dont know about yall but i know my colds would last months instead of days before i went gluten-free. even without a diagnosis there is plenty of research that shows gluten is not the best thing to ingest celiac or not -matt -

coming back to it at a less stressful time is a very bad idea, while it is a PITA to do it will make the stressful stuff be easier, you will have less stress and issues from symptoms. the gluten also is messing with your emotions some what and can make stuff seem more stressful/depressing/angering. it will be better for you to just do it and not hold off... -

ya, it was hard to go gluten-free and it wasnt a hard line when symptoms went away, in fact it was kind of a look back and i said "wow, a lot has changed", it did help some when i noticed my shorts were looser when i hadnt worn them for a few months and when i got on the scale after a few months being at school w/o one noticing i lost like 20 lbs, and my... -

the only thing a positive on the tests will give you is higher insurance rates or rejection of coverage. if eating gluten brings back symptoms for the most part then you have an issue with it, no reason to think other wise. i know some people want "proof" of it but what is better proof than you ingest something, then get sick consistently from it. ... -

i still get mad and depressed when i have issues for a while at a time, given i did keep inadvertently glutening my self for a while cause of an ingredient i thought was gluten-free so that might be part of it but when you get symptoms for a while again, even when they are unrelated i guess its a bit like a flash back or PTSD just reminding you of how bad... -

ya and just as an fyi to you and everyone, if you have issues getting access to what you need at work/school be it food provided that is gluten-free or fridge/microwave access just show them the americans with disabilities act (you know that annoying thing they talk about at the start of the semester in every class that lets ADD people get more time and note... -

eh i dont know if i could deal with working at a place that was making food with gluten, not because of temptation just because i would be worried i would contaminate my self. as to the cook book, great suggestion but i suggest to not waste money on gluten free cooking for dummies, it has a few good recipes but it never lists which things to look for to... -
ya i agree, im lucky my roommate here at school and i dont share utensils or anything and that he doesnt cook much (just goes and buys his food even though he has much more free time than i do) so theres not much CC issues. maybe the best solution for you would be to buy a really big cutting board (like one of the thin acrylic ones) and just use that as...

i know that tostitos are fine from a gluten-free view, eaten bags of them in the last few months. as to the others i cannot give any help with. what i found out when my stomach started to bother me a few months ago is the silk soy milk was bothering me, no soy issue, no issue with anything in it, but the natural medicine guy my family goes to (does a...
