  1. i looked at their menu and its slightly disappointing, their fries re even glutened and they say bailieys is a gluten-free after diner drink but its enough to make me happy i guess... and they have a gluten-free brownie because it is flourless. as to the salads and stuff you just need to ask no crutons and make sure it is mixed in a separate bowl i know...
  2. mint is a good natural thing from gi issues, imodium is a good fast answer for it. the b vitamins are great to fight the brain fog and wake you up more, grab some redbull -matt
  3. the responses get worse for most people the longer they are on the diet. most people get to the point that cross contamination makes them sick so by eating something that is full of gluten that seems like it is normal -matt
  4. before i went gluten free i had gained weight (5'7" 185 at 18 years old) not big but i had some extra fluff, 2 months after going gluten free i had dropped almost 20 lbs so the gluten can do a lot. as to the look of celiacs, every one is different, i have a friend that while she doesnt look sick she looks tired and slightly disconnected and i think it...
  5. i used to have some swollen glands but since ive been eating gluten free it has gone away. but as a rule of thumb if it is painful, gets worse/doesnt go away see your doc -matt
  6. hmmm you know i had food poisoning around 14 and i guess my gi issues got worse after that (but i did have some issues before that). other than some GI issues i didnt have any symptoms really other than a bit of being tired, around senior year of highschool i started to gain weight ad then freshman year of college i got more brain fog and slightly depressed...
  7. hey another matt i also have that pain, its pretty common for most celiacs to have discomfort in their guts. it might be more so of your rib being a little out of wack than any thing else there are good lists around of things to look for that you would not expect but i suggest to just start off with simple homemade meals that you know what every ingredient...
  8. my glutened reaction is more so in the lower gut and some times the mental stuff, it doesnt take much for the D but it takes some for the mind fog some times. i honestly just load up on the imodium and if my mind fog is bothering me and its not to late in the day i drink a red bull, the last time i got glutened (wasnt really bad just was the lower stuff...
  9. i notice that i have started to eat less too over all with celiac disease, but i still dont eat in the AM, at least until after 10 or 11, i might be hungry but if i try to eat my body just goes "ewwwww" (i think the second part is more genetic though since my father never really eats breakfast) -matt
  10. could also be the added sugar -matt
  11. whats your blood type? there is a book called "eat right for your type" and for those of us with O orange juice is bad. all the foods are put into 3 categories: good, neutral, and bad. ironically wheat is listed as bad for O's too. it suggests that O types drink pineapple juice along with a few others but i dont remember which exactly off hand, but...
  12. i guess up north you dont know all the things you can do for breakfast there are a lot of good "southern" foods, given a lot of them have fat and sugar but they all come from the farmer tradition where it was worked off some of the healthier things i can think of are: -grits (corn meal basically that you put butter on along with mix and match...
  13. it happened to me today, the idiot at 5 guys didnt change his gloves, i should have said something but o well shoulda, clouda, woulda. at first i wasnt sure if i had gottened glutened or something else but im starting to get a bit of fog so i think i did. gar, last thing i need now with having a final meeting for an independent study, a final, and a...
  14. i dont eat at my dining hall, in fact i dont get food from the school in any way, i usually cook pretty simply here and from scratch, or there about, the biggest difference is just the balanced diet. i do know processed stuff is not that good though and i do try to stay away from a lot of processed stuff, i even have been getting the micro brewed sodas that...
  15. i bet your body is just telling you that you need to drink high quality alcohol, not that it has gluten in it -matt
  16. basically it is because since medicine is privatized thus medical companies and some docs just want to make money and not get sued, there are less docs that come in to the field and just want to help people, or at least that dont get that goal boxed in due to the "we need to make a good profit" or "if you mess up you will get sued". by trying to control...
  17. ya i would walk in in person and not leave with out them, just stand at the window blocking any one from checking in because it should take them all of 2 mins to pull your file and photo copy stuff. if they keep giving you crap or you just dont have the time to deal with it get a lawyer friend to call them up and say they are trying to resolve this matter...
  18. its a method used for allergy testing that uses muscle testing, it uses the energy of your body, its weird and hard to explain but basically you hold your arm out and you touch the item you may be allergic to with the other hand, the person testing you holds their hand is a certain shape which is doing something with energy and they push down on your arm...
  19. ya you got it as to the allergy testing, if you use the bio set method (you need to find an applied kinesiologist to do it) it works well but it is very alternative medicine and many people think it is bull but it has worked very well for me and my family, we even got very skeptical friends of ours to go to our guy and they love it -matt
  20. food journals, elimination diets (either by removing or cutting everything out and adding back in), "allergy testing" (in the modern medicine practice) or by getting tested for sensitivities with a more alternative system like "bio set" which relies on muscle testing and is a little less exact but in my experiences it works better, causes no pain (other than...
  21. i hate the red tape in the medical field. how ever bad it is to result to it you may need to threaten legal action against them, its your medical records and you have a legal right to have access to it once they do -matt
  22. i totally understand this, i tried to go gluten-free with about a month left to go in my freshmen year and it sucked, i still felt bad. it was honestly more so gluten light than free but over the summer i started to see so much improvement that i tired to push my self farther and farther to doing it right. im not sure how the school you are at does its...
  23. i feel you on the cravings, and they seem to get worse the worse i feel. maybe you could find a place to get a burger at (sans bun) that fits your dietary requirements. i have 5 guys here and they are very good about being attentive to gluten issues so i go there when i want to be lazy and have something tasty try to find something to keep your mouth...
  24. i have a lot of gi issues still too but i have linked it to not eating a balanced diet like i should. i have noticed that as long as i eat gluten-free and balanced everything moves as it should. if you are eating balanced, gluten free and taking a good multi vitamin and still having issues look to the other general allergies/sensitives like lactose, soy...
  25. i would call and complain for sure. now not to be a devil's advocate but are you sure you got glutened and not just sick from something else? i dont know what your symptoms are so for you it might be blatantly clear when you get glutened where as for some one like me it is not extremely clear -matt
