ARCHIVED Universal Studios In Hollywood - And Surronding Areas
Darissa replied to Darissa's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I contacted Universal, they do now offer gluten free dining options. I am still going to bring in a small amount of food to make it though the day for us, which they said we could, but I will also check out the dinning options. I will let you all know how it goes after the fact! -

ARCHIVED Universal Studios In Hollywood - And Surronding Areas
Darissa replied to Darissa's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the link! I know it is always safer to bring own food in, which I think we will do. My daugther loves disney since she can eat safely, but we wanted to try somewhere new this time. When we went to Seaworld last year, we didn't have much luck with the gluten free food either. I think we will bring in our gluten-free bagels, pnut butter, and fruit... -

Darissa replied to Darissa's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much! I will call and find out if we can bring our own food. I don't want my family to spend their time waiting for gluten free food at the restaurants there. Thanks for the tips:) -

ARCHIVED Universal Studios In Hollywood - And Surronding Areas
Darissa posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
In a few weeks I will be traveling to Universal Studios in Hollywood and also SeaWorld in San Deigo. I was wondering if anyone had any food suggestions for these parks or these areas for restaurants. We traveled to Sea World in SanDiego about 6 months ago, and did not have a good experience at the park. Wanting to know if someone has eaten at either of... -
Sorry, I didn't mean that the fries weren't cooked seperarately, or that I asked them to cook them seperaretely, I was just stating that they were seperate. They use a pressure cooker for their breaded chicken, so there is never a cross contact with their fries. Their fries are great! And Safe. Here is the list of their gluten free food. Open Original...

First, we always ask to talk to a shift Manager, to explain our "severe allergy" ( I know ... I know...Celiac is not an allergy!) and ask them to change their gloves and cook fresh fries and not to have the food handled on the line where the prep the sandwiches. We enjoy the fries (cooked seperatly), the ice cream, and the grilled chicken patty or grilled...

Have you checked out Open Original Shared Link ? I get their email updates even thought I don't live in Utah. We visit Utah alot due to family being there, and I am always looking for new restaurant or bakeries. But they have had Doctors talk at some of their meetings. Maybe you could contact someone from this group and they would have a suggestion. Good...

ARCHIVED What's Your Standard "food Bag" When Travelling?
Darissa replied to Nutmegger's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Nutmegger - What type of protein powder and protein bars do you use that are gluten free? We are having a hard time finding ones that we like. I would love a suggestion! Thanks:) Darissa -

ARCHIVED Chuck E. Cheese's To Offer gluten-free Options On Menu
Darissa replied to BabsV's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am thankful they are taking such precautions to prevent CC. My kids will love this, even if it is a frozen pizza! But the way they are cooking it seems interesting to say the least, but I am thankful they are concerned about CC. The main reason we hardly ever eat out is CC, so this will be nice. Hope they expand their markets soon to all areas. -

ARCHIVED Croissant Recipe?
Darissa replied to Gf Princess182's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know that crescent rolls aren't exactly the same thing as croissants, but we love this crescent roll recipe. I've made it several times. It does work best if you use the flour she calls for in the recipe. (btw, we love the Jules gluten free flour mix. It is now our favorite go-to flour mix for gluten-free). It is simple to make, and they turn out great... -

ARCHIVED Road Tripping? How Do You Do It?
Darissa replied to kb27's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
When we travel, we are normally in the car for at least 2 or 3 days. We bring a cooler, stock it with ham, chicken, yogurt, fruits and veggies. We buy fresh gluten free bread at our local gluten free bakery the day before we leave so it is fresh. If you don't have that option, Udi's bagels makes good sandwiches too (we find we don't have to toast the bagels... -
Question for you. We just went up to PetCo and bought the Blue Wilderness Grain Free Chicken Dog Food (dry) and it has barley grass in it. We are trying to find a good quality dog food that is 100% gluten free. I am contacting the company. We bought the food, than I was looking it up online, and found a post from a Vet that said it had Barley. Sure enough...

We love Picazzo's in Arizona. There are several in different cities in Arizona. A good portion of the menu is gluten free. Here is the link to their menu. They make their own gluten-free pizza crust. And all of their pastas are gluten free, and all of their croutons for the salads and all the flat bread is gluten free. They also have desert, crustless cheesecake...

ARCHIVED Chick Filet Announces gluten-free Kids Meal
Darissa replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Just so you know, the fries are deep fried, and the breaded chicken is cooked in a pressure cooker, so there is no cross contamination. It is like that at all ChickFilA. Just so you know, I always ask them to cook fresh fries, and change their gloves, and they are always happy to do so! -

ARCHIVED San Diego Gluten-Free
Darissa replied to Deborah Holloway's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't know the name of the gluten free cafe, but when we were there a couple of months ago, we ate the PFChangs and Outback that were fairly close to SeaWorld. We did great the multiple times we ate there while we were visiting for that week. Good luck. We mostly ate in our hotel that had a kitchen, but we did eat out a quite a few times too. -

ARCHIVED San Diego Gluten-Free
Darissa replied to Deborah Holloway's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for all the tips for when we travel to San Diego! Sounds like it was a good experience for you! -
I would try the college campus ChickFilA. They should have these. If it is your first time, and you are worried about CC, just ask to talk to the Manager when placing your order and ask them to be careful to avoid CC and have them change your gloves and cook your items fresh for you. Sorry don't know about the age limit when ordering. Good luck!

The Polynesian sauce (which I sometimes call the sweet and sour sauce) is gluten free. We have used it for years, and never had a reaction, and my Daughter and I are both very sensitive.
 -
Yes, I ask them to prepare fresh fries and to change their gloves. They are always willing and happy to help! I have ordered them a few times and have not asked them to fix new fries and to only change their gloves (my bad ... I know better) when I am in a hurry and dont' have my daughter with me, and I have gotten sick sometimes. So, from now on I always...

[The fries are completly safe. They are fried in seperate oil than the breaded chicken. ChickFila does a good job. Some of their Salads and dressings are safe. Just so you know, the breaded chicken is cooked completly seperately.(so no worries) We always tell them we have a severe "allergy" (i know, i know!) and that they need to make things seperately...

ARCHIVED Wholefoods gluten-free Pie Crust - Thaw First?
Darissa replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Slyvia Thank you for the info. I will order those. That is a great price! Are we not allowed to link on this forum? I normally don't, but I did above. I love my rolling pin too. It is a nonstick rolling pin that I bought for gluten free baking. It is Oxo 12" Rolling Pin. There are other nonstick ones too. It works well with the cheesecloth, but... -

ARCHIVED Wholefoods gluten-free Pie Crust - Thaw First?
Darissa replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought my silicone mat and rolling pin cover (cheesecloth material) at bed bath and beyond. I love them both. Wished I had bought them years ago. So worth it. My mat was Open Original Shared Link I love it. I haven't baked with it, I only have used it to roll out cookies, pie crust, crescent rolls, etc. That is what I bought it for, not baking,... -

ARCHIVED Wholefoods gluten-free Pie Crust - Thaw First?
Darissa replied to Jenny (AZ via TX)'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used their crust for years and love it. Sometimes I am running late and don't have time to thaw it, but it still cooks great. I always prebake mine for a few minutes prior to filling (I don't like soggy crust) so I cover the edges with foil, and prebake for about 10 - 12 minutes at 350. I think this helps firm it up before filling with pumpkin or...
