  1. Thanks. We also inherited a gene for deafness (I have 3 deaf siblings) through him from Alexander Graham Bell's wife. I remind him of that every time he brings up how we never listened to him as kids.
  2. My recent reply here. I break out many of my symptoms with what I've found them to be linked to as a primary cause.
  3. Also try disabling any Chrome extensions. I use chrome on four different operating systems (Win 7, Win7 64 bit, XP, and Linux) on five different computers with the forums with no problem. *Edited to insert four words that got lost on the way from my brain to my fingers.
  4. Mine is a foreign language (to me) variation on my real name. Kinda boring but not surprise. My oldest son (stepson) says that before I got married to his mom I was a stick in the mud, but now I'm just a stick.
  5. I spent 3 months on the strict GAPS then another three months on a slightly less strict version. I would highly recommend it. I was having ongoing non-resolved GI issues that began clearing up within a couple weeks. Are you preparing food for more than just yourself (i.e. kids, significant other)? If so I have some suggestions.
  6. I'm so sorry you are feeling overwhelmed. I understand because I think everyone has gone through that. I will tell you what got me through the first months. Reading 'Gluten-Free for Dummies', and going to a whole/raw foods diet. I couldn't cope with all the changes, trying to make our home gluten-free, what could I eat, what couldn't I eat, what about what...
  7. I also agree with Peter. But your concern about CC also depends on your level of sensitivity. Due care should be exercised in all cases to avoid CC. I don't allow gluten containing items in our house at all except beer. It stays out of the kitchen and is only poured into glass or disposable plastic. I am quite sensitive to CC. Not as sensitive as many on...
  8. My wife and I ate pretty health as well (compared to the average western/American diet). Lots of whole grains, lots of veggies, salads, lean meats, low fat, etc. I kept getting sicker, and fatter. Now I eat mostly protein and fats and I'm physically doing better than I've ever been in my adult life. My body really doesn't like carbs much at all. The more...
  9. Hi gluten-free, This is not at all uncommon (I'm sorry). Very often people become more sensitive once they go gluten-free for even a short time. It isn't in your head. This happened to me as well as many others here.
  10. I missed this paragraph earlier. Yes, I was overweight (obese). I've lost over 50 lbs (healthily) after going gluten-free. I no longer need antacids. Yes on the anxiety (see my previous response), and no on the fear of dying. About a week before my 40th birthday (two weeks before I went gluten-free) I told my wife I was pretty sure I was dying. At that point...
  11. My primary symptoms and food linkages are below along with onset (there is some symptom overlap): Gluten/celiac disease related: Chest pain/Tachyacardia - age 19 (20+) years ago, would come and go for 20 years Gradually developing fatigue, always tired - first observed 10 years pre-gluten-free Insomnia - first observed 14 years pre-gluten-free OCD...
  12. I'm in large part Scottish (traced back to pre-1600), with some Irish, German, Iroquois, and English thrown in for good measure.
  13. BBQ Turkey, with gluten-free Dressing Garlic Mashed Potatoes (with Raw/Fresh Cream) Cranberry Sauce Green Beans with Bacon and Sauteed Onions Pumpkin Pie with homemade french vanilla ice cream (made from Raw/Fresh Cream) Misc other stuff.
  14. Oh, and to answer your topic title question, YES. It can.
  15. As you probably know from your research, almost every symptom here is associated with untreated celiac disease. Get the Red Book.
  16. You may have developed cross-sensitivity to other foods. This is (anecdotally) fairly common. Many of these other food intolerances can clear up after an extended (usually) period of removing the offending food(s) from your diet in conjunction with strict adherence to a gluten-free diet. Also approximately 50% of people with Celiac disease also have a casein...
  17. I'll echo the others as far as getting your vitamin levels checked, but I'd also suggest you find either an ND or an MD who is nutrition focused and get all your trace minerals checked as well. As far as foods, if you can eat it, organic,grass-fed beef liver or organic,free-range chicken liver are two of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet...
  18. Have you looked into the Open Original Shared Link? It took me about 3 months on this before I was able to start really digesting/handling a lot of other foods.
  19. I have reactions while I'm in the middle of eating something. The first time this happened I was about 1/3 of the way through a bowl of chili, and I noticed both my ankles and knees were aching and hurting. I didn't make the connection at that time, so I finished the bowl. By the time we were done with lunch I felt like I had the flu in all my joints and...
  20. Can you juice some veggies or just puree some veggies, banana, apple, and unsweetened coconut milk? This Open Original Shared Link is the product we take.
  21. So...to elaborate... My wife and I both started taking Digestive Enzymes that contain 600 mg HCL, Ox Bile, and a variety of other things. The effect has been dramatic and positive. I used to take Pepto all the time (almost daily), thinking that I had heartburn from an acidic stomach. I haven't had to take it in months for heartburn.
  22. Yes. I will detail more later after I get some sleep.
  23. Explain to the floor shift supervising nurse that you have Celiac Disease (and any SERIOUS food allergies/intolerances) that create some serious health issues regarding eating food prepared in a non-safe enviornment. Ask to speak to the head of the kitchen/head cook, etc. If after talking to them, or if they won't let you or blow you off, BYOF. Or have a...
  24. Dilanttesteph pretty much nailed it IMO. I consider myself super-sensitive as I will react to many things produced in a shared facility. If it is produced on the same equipment, based on the last couple years response, I'm guaranteed to react so I don't even touch anything produced in a shared facility. Which is why Trader Joe's is out for me. ...
