  1. Thanks I've found this forum so helpful and supportive already -- a great place for info and for sharing with people who've been there. Happy day-before-the-weekend
  2. Yes, such relief! Along with the typical celiac disease symptoms I also had seizures which was very scary! I haven't had a seizure or even a fainting spell since going gluten-free
  3. I never thought I'd be HAPPY to say I have celiac disease! I've been sick for a very long time (worsening over the past 9 months) and finally today my DR gave me the official Dx of celiac disease. Finally we have figured out what is wrong and I can continue on the road to healing. Yes, the gluten-free diet can be high-maintenance but my health is within...
  4. Remember that if you have celiac disease even if you don't have symptoms you are still doing damage to your body. But you are lucky that you won't suffer so much if you accidentally get glutened
  5. Welcome I'm pretty new too and can't answer all of your questions, but here are the two I wanted to respond to: -You don't have to be underweight to have celiac disease. Some people have serious weight gain and are unable to lose the weight and some have weight loss due to malnourishment and/or diarrhea. -D isn't a mandatory symptom for a Dx of...
  6. Not all soy sauces contain gluten It may have been gluten-free after all, or you're lucky and have a very mild reaction. Cheers, Jillian
  7. What about light butter flavour by Great Value brand (Wal-Mart Canada)? It lists natural and artificial flavours in the ingredients. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free? I can't find anything online. I've got such a craving and it's the only kind in the house right now! Thanks Jillian
  8. Thanks Jestgar Yes, mine did too! It's awful today though and the thick, humid air is definitely not helping! Does anyone else notice difficulty breathing and/or worsening asthma symptoms after being glutened? Just wondering if this is a common thing... Thanks, Jillian
  9. When I was being tested for celiac disease I was told that having asthma makes it a little more likely that I have it because both celiac disease and asthma are immune-mediated disorders/diseases. I've been gluten-free for 5 1/2 weeks now and was doing fantastic until Saturday afternoon when (accidentally, of course) I got glutened. Last night I played...
  10. Mine's a real bonehead move! It was one of my first days on the diet and my first visit to Starbucks gluten-free. The person I was speaking to couldn't help me so after a long time hemming and hawing I just ordered a regular coffee. When I went to put cream & sugar into it I saw a vanilla powder and thought it would be nice to add a little flavour...
  11. Hi Lynayah, I also used to get chronic sinus infections and when I get glutened I feel pressure in my sinuses again. I also get joint pain and my tendonitis acts up (knees & achilles teondons). I've seen others mention sinus problems when glutened (or pre-dx) so perhaps there is a link! Worth checking out. Jillian
  12. Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes It will take me a while to decode your silly spelling! I was happily out socializing last night and have a soccer game tonight with fellow members of the IBTC (the curse of athletes... you can be in good shape but lose your boobies in the process)! Janet, are you planning to hold all of our boobies hostage...
  13. I just got glutened last night after a month of improvements I feel so fatigued it feels like there are weights attached to me. I feel weak and dizzy, my BP is low. Brain fog. And I am grumpy!! Look out It took about 2 hours for the fatigue to start and overnight got worse. I woke up with a gluten hangover! I don't get many GI symptoms...
  14. I think I was glutened! And the only thing new I ate was Basic Red bacon. The ingredients say it MAY contain sugar, golden yellow sugar, potassium chloride, spices, dextrose and DOES contain pork, water, salt, sodium erythorbate.... it seems to be a bargain brand (darn hubby being cheap lol)... perhaps cc @ manufacturers?
  15. What about Basic Red bacon (Canada)? Anyone know? My hubby bought it without reading the label and it says *may contain spices and I can't find a website!
  16. I have been a life time member of the IBTC! My little sister has had bigger boobs than me since she hit puberty (I'm 3 years older) and I lost even more when I got sick! I'm back up to a healthy weight (5'3" 120lbs of muscle from all the sports ) but my boobs decided not to return... have I done something to offend them? Or maybe they were gluten boobs...
  17. You need to go directly to the manufacturer's website to get product information. Go here to GNC dot com (can't post ads here) /product/index.jsp?productId=3190386 and click the product info tab and it says they are gluten-free. Enjoy! Jillian
  18. Hi and welcome to the forum I can't answer most of your questions (sorry!) but your post left me wondering... if you were asymptomatic, then what prompted you to get tested? There was likely something that brought you to the DR and led your DR to order the tests you mentioned. celiac disease isn't just about GI problems, it also includes vitamin...
  19. I would say you are showing signs of healing (less bathroom trips, more hair) and also gluten withdrawal! Yes, it exists. I have been gluten-free for 5 weeks and went through a withdrawal period and have had new symptoms pop up during the healing process. Some people feel immediate relief and some take up to a year to feel themselves again, it's a very...
  20. When you say holistic DR, does this person actually have an M.D.? In my humble opinion, I would suggest eating gluten again for 2 weeks then going to a medical doctor (general practitioner or specialist if possible) for a Celiac panel (blood test). There is nothing wrong with holistic medicine, but IMHO one should exhaust all scientific, medical avenues...
  21. I just wrote the below email to a catering company for a friend's wedding: "Hello, I will be a guest at the *last names* wedding on October 10th, 2009. I have Celiac Disease and am hoping you will be able to accommodate a gluten-free meal that I can eat safely with the other guests. I don't want to stress out the bride & groom with additional...
  22. My BP had always been low-normal (I'm a life-long athlete) and not an issue until I got sick in December. My BP would plummet and I'd have dizziness and fainting spells. Mine got as low as 90/50 once and it's normally 120/60. Since going gluten-free I've only had one dizzy spell after being glutened (or so I believe) and my BP has gone back up near to...
  23. I'm so sorry you had such a terrible experience. Personally I really wanted (and still want) to go all-out, 100% with all the testing to know 100% for sure if I have celiac disease. It can help with tax breaks (depending on where you live) on specialty foods and personally it will give me peace of mind to know that we got it right. Some are ok with...
  24. Before I got my Dx I didn't drink any alcohol for 8 months, my stomach just couldn't tolerate it. The other night I had 3 glasses of red wine and ended up with a terrible headache. It's difficult to know if that is the culprit, but many celiacs tend to be sensitive to acidic foods (tomatoes, vinegar, etc), alcohol, whole grains (even gluten-free ones),...
