  1. I think you'd have to read the ingredients and/or check with the manufacturer, which you can't do at a busy bar or nightclub
  2. Yes, having read others' posts about their experiences, it seems my negative experience was a very unique one (lucky me ). For most people it's a breeze, and I'm sure it will be for you
  3. If you want something really easy to make at home, I just mix extra virgin olive oil with a really good balsamic vinegar. It tastes better than the store-bought vinegarettes and is healthier. You can then add pepper or other seasonings to suit your tastes. You can switch it up each time, or make a bottle of it and keep it in the fridge for convenience...
  4. Hi domoboy and welcome, Your GI doc certainly should have gone through the process with you. You will be given a light anesthetic and the DR will put a very small scope down your throat (it's about as wide as a pinky finger) and into your small bowel. Depending on how much and what kind of drug they give you (I only had a teeny amount of valium, not...
  5. I drink lots of water and don't have a high-sodium diet. I had a stress-test done and my heart was performing perfectly but I do get chest pains and sudden drops in my BP (syncope episodes). Perhaps I should discuss with my DR sooner rather than later. Thanks for the info
  6. Anyone know how to get one of those dining cards in Canada? Preferably in French and English Thanks, Jillian
  7. I ate them with no reaction, so they must be safe Thanks, Jillian
  8. Thanks I found that list when I googled it too... I guess a Screwdriver isn't all that bad and at least I'm getting some Vitamin C in the process? Do I have to worry about bar juices (from the gun)? I don't want to be asking questions about gluten in a busy club, I've was a bartender back in College (long before my gluten-free days) and I know...
  9. Thanks for sharing I pee a LOT in the evenings too (with no medications to cause it). My GI said it's probably because I'm retaining water in my ankles and then when I put my feet up the fluid returns into my system, is filtered into my kidneys and then my bladder I haven't mentioned these more serious bouts of water retention as it has only happened...
  10. Hi everyone, Now that I can't drink beer ...I don't know what to ask for at the clubs and/or bars! Not that I go terribly often, but we are celebrating a friend's birthday tonight and going to a club I've never been to. I like drinks like vodka & craberry or vodka & orange juice but they're so full of sugar. Does anyone have suggestions for...
  11. Thanks Do I have to worry about "spice" or "flavour" being hidden sources? I'm told that in Canada spices are safe, but what about flavour? It's pretty ambigous.
  12. Open Original Shared Link Anyone know if these are gluten free? The website doesn't have any info! Thanks Jillian
  13. Personally I stay away from Starbucks. I've tried to contact them inquiring about gluten-free options and keep getting the same automatic response: "In regards to your inquiry, we are unable to indicate any handcrafted beverage or unpackaged food item as being "gluten-free" unless it is specifically produced and packaged to meet gluten-free requirements...
  14. Hi all, I just had a soccer practice and it's almost 30 degrees celcius today. By the end my hands were so swollen that I could hardly bend my fingers! Recently I flew on a plane and my feet swelled up so bad they hurt in my sandles. I've read about celiac disease and water retention and am wondering if others have the same experience, especially...
  15. You can always get allergy testing to see if soy is an issue. Also, if you got glutened recently or are still healing, then the high acid content in your lunch might have hurt your tummy. Hope you feel better soon!
  16. It is advisable to change your body wash and soaps if you are reacting to them. About the piercings, nipple piercings can reject, especially if they're not done properly (not far back enough, not enough skin to keep them in). If the jewelry gauge is too thin or the piercing isn't deep enough to begin with, you run the risk of rejection. If you have an...
  17. Welcome Susan, This category of the form https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showforum=7 has a lot of parents of children with celiac disease and this one https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showforum=10 is specifically for parents with children with celiac disease. Of course, you're welcome to post anywhere you want but you might...
  18. In my opinion you should go to the DR and get a celiac blood panel done, as well as discuss your symptoms and see what other tests s/he thinks might be necessary. Personally I don't think it is worth making a huge life change if you don't know what you have. Also, if you self-diagnose with celiac disease and don't work with a DR then you could miss something...
  19. I am a fellow athlete and found that my performance has improved since going gluten free. My dear, if you have celiac disease you do need to give up beer, even strongbow! They are coming out with better and better gluten-free beers, but giving it up for a bit while your body heals is probably the best thing. And not all peanut butter is gluten-free, so...
  20. Yeah, no one wants to take responsibility for their product anymore, everything is "use at your own risk" If they are unwilling to provide better information or do the work to ensure they have safe products, then I for one will not be giving them my business at all. Lexi -- yes, natural flavours can be a risk. You can find out who manufactures...
  21. That doesn't have any gluten info though. I emailed them to inquire about gluten-free Starbucks products in Canada and got this response: "Hello Jillian, Thank you for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company. I would first like to apologize for my delay in getting back to you; I appreciate your patience. In regards to your inquiry, we are...
  22. I have a tattoo on the top of my foot and had no problems with it I have celiac disease with no other intolerances that I know of. I recommend going in and talking to the owners of the parlour before getting the tatto also. Have fun! Jillian
  23. Good luck & I hope you find the right med (or no meds) that work best for you Jillian
  24. Yes, for most people these problems do pass once their stomach heals. Some people have additional intolerances though, as you know because of your casein allergy. It is recommended that you try a highly natural, plain diet for the first month or two (or when you're having any GI problems such as nausea), and then slowly re-introduce the processed, sugary...
  25. You've got it (IMHO). I'm not a doctor, but from what I've learned, read and experienced, it seems that the blood test is very preliminary (a formality even). There are a lost of false negatives and doctors will often send a patient for an endoscopy anyway if the symptoms fit. Considering the seriousness of your symptoms, he was probably just saving you...
