  1. Too small? Oh, you're going to give poor santa a complex... coal in your stocking this year for insulting santa's "manhood"!
  2. How long is long enough to have healed a good bit? The standard I keep hearing is 6 months, is that about right? I know it is different for everyone, but generally speaking. I've been gluten-free for just over 5 months and I would really like to give oats a try. I can't find any certified gluten-free oats here in Winnipeg though! If anyone knows...
  3. When we confirmed I had celiac disease, I cleared out a cupboard in the kitchen that is now for gluten-free foods only. My hubby has a cupboard for his poison (I mean, gluten-containing foods) way over on the other side of the kitchen We make sure to keep those foods separate so that I don't accidentally eat something I shouldn't. Drink lots of...
  4. It's a tough question to answer without knowing 100% for sure if your husband does in fact have celiac disease. I can answer generally that yes, untreated celiac disease (meaning not following the diet) increases a person's risk for many health complications, including cancer. Oats, rye, etc. would certainly be harmful to a person with celiac disease. ...
  5. Hello, Enterolab & other genetic testing can only tell you if someone has a genetic predisposition to celiac disease, it is not a confirmation that they do indeed have it. DRs may dx (diagnose) based on genetic testing plus a positive dietary response. Lymphocytes (I'm not a Dr, so this is my lay person's understanding) are a type of white...
  6. Welcome, and I'm very glad that going gluten-free has helped with most of your symptoms How were your BP & HR? I have vaso-vagal syncope episodes (a fancy way of saying "fainting") where my heart rate and blood pressure drop low enough for me to lose consciousness. Hypotension and bradychardia can definitely cause dizziness & lightheadedness...
  7. How were you diagnosed? I didn't present with typical celiac disease symptoms, aside from anemia. I had vaso-vagal syncope episodes (fainting) and even seizures. There are many people who have few or no symptoms, but ingesting gluten damages their body just like anyone else with celiac disease.
  8. Thanks for the info
  9. I'm having a similar problem. I went gluten-free shortly before you did (July/09). My hunger spiked, went back down to normal, and then lately has spiked again. I think it's in large part because I feel healther and more energetic, so I'm much more active (I play indoor soccer and ice hockey as well as working out). I crave CARBS all the time!! And yet...
  10. INGREDIENTS: sugar, non-dairy creamer (corn syrup solids, coconut oil, sodium caseinate (a milk derivative), dipotassium, phosphate, mono and diglycerides, silicon dioxide, artificial flavour and tumeric and annatto extracts), maltodextrin, non fat dry milk, natural and artificial flavour, carboxymethylcellulose, salt, tricalcium phosphate. Certainly...
  11. Hello all, (Sorry for the double post.) Does anyone know if Higgins & Burke (made by Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Inc.) "gourmet" WHITE hot chocolate is gluten-free? I can't find any information on their website or anywhere online using a google search. There is nothing in the ingredients obviously stating wheat or other gluten products,...
  12. I've never had any problems with tea I drink Tetley Orange Pekoe, Red Rose Black Tea, Stash teas, and Twinings. My favourite is Twinings Irish Breakfast Tea. Enjoy, Jillian
  13. Does anyone know if Higgins & Burke (made by Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Inc.) "gourmet" WHITE hot chocolate is gluten-free? I can't find any information on their website or anywhere online using a google search. There is nothing in the ingredients obviously stating wheat or other gluten products, however there are natural & artificial flavours...
  14. Thanks for the advice I should start carrying around nuts (almonds and pistachios are my favourite) with my fruit snacks. Ooh and avacado dip with brown rice crackers as a snack at home, yum. (I'm hungry right now, can you tell? lol). I think you're right, I'm doing a good job of reloading on carbs & protein, but not so much on the good fats...
  15. Hi to my fellow athletes I am a very competitive hockey player and play in a high-level and highly competitive league -- and I love it! Durnig the games I feel great! After the games I feel pretty drained, weak, tired, etc. I know that's to be expected considering I work so hard and exert so much energy while playing, however I am wondering if my...
  16. I had mine done through my GI doc and it was covered by provincial health insurance. Jillian
  17. No question is a stupid question And I would say, yes. Our bodies' defenses are weakened during menstration, we already feel more tired than usual, have cramps, etc., so ingesting gluten would only add to our PMS symptoms. If you're already feeling lousy, or your body is not at its best, and you get glutened, it makes sense that it would hit even...
  18. Hmm... I eat EnviroKidz cereal and cereal bars all the time! I have my first follow-up soon with my first post-diet ttg test. I'll let you know what my results are Jillian
  19. This is off topic, but depending on your insurance coverage, you can get genetic testing done. It won't tell you definitively whether or not you have celiac disease, but it can tell you if you have one of the genes highly related to the development of celiac disease. But if you're gluten-free and feeling better, for some that is all they need to know...
  20. Definitely. A lot of people with celiac disease will experience headaches/migraines as one of their reactions. Give away that licorice and feel better
  21. http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/prog...faq_dt.aspx#Q17 You can contact them http://www.ontario.ca/en/services_for_resi...s/STEL02_186323 for answers, but I'm sure your DR will know Good luck
  22. No nail moons here!
  23. Hi, I'm originally from Ontario but currently in MB. I had genetic testing done in August and it was 100% covered. I'm not sure if it's any different in ON, but it's probably covered Just ask your DR or search http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/default.aspx Good luck, Jillian
  24. I'm not sure exactly how or why, but I do have a similar issue. I've had my blood sugar tested repeatedly and it is usually low-normal. I play a lot of sports (hockey & soccer are my main sports) that are taxing on the body and cause me to lose a lot of fluid through sweat. I drink an entire nalgene (1 litre of water, I think) before the game, plus...
  25. MONA LISA'S!! Open Original Shared Link It takes a long time to dine there because they make all their food fresh, so be patient and go when you have a lot of time for your meal They have gluten-free pasta and sauces, gluten-free pizza dough, etc. My experience there was great and I am definitely going back. It's one of the more expensive places...
