  1. There is wheat starch in alot of lipstick, alot of eye makeup has wheat germ oil. There are also things that can be hidden in the makeup. Alot of shampoos have wheat in them. The whole Dove line will not hide anything. I use their shampoos, hairspray, soap etc. I use Bare Escentuals makeup...all of that is gluten-free. The reason it is so important is when...
  2. I am 17 to and I went through the same thing...with friends saying o whats the big deal if you cheat. Well the big deal is my intestines get chewed up and I will have increased risks of life threatening diseases such as cancer. I was normal and healthy then I had mono and that triggered my celiac. I had so many bad days until I got off of gluten so it was...
  3. Envirokidz has some good cereal that is kind of like rice krispies. It is gluten free and had 26 g of carbs. They also make animal crackers that are gluten-free as well and they have 20 g of carbs. They make peanut butter, chocolate, and berry bars as well. Foods by George has some really good English Muffins, plain and cinnamon &raisin. They taste...
  4. yea ... did you also know that JFK possibly had celiac? I didn't know that but check out this article Open Original Shared Link
  5. Have you considered you maybe have another food intolerance or allergy? Try keeping a food journal and see what days you feel worse. You may want to get tested for other food intolerances or an allergy. York Labs has a lot of things they test for you may want to look into that. Hope you get feeling better
  6. Have you been completely gluten-free? Shampoos, cosmetics, lotions, soaps, etc? This was causing me a reaction until I found out what it was and found all gluten-free products. For some people it takes longer for the intestine to heal and longer for symptoms to clear up. Have you noticed any difference at all since being on the gluten-free diet? In the first...
  7. I also really enjoy reading what you have to say Red. I try to keep an open mind to things and learn every aspect that I can on things. Sorry to see you go...you'll be missed
  8. I would not trust fast food places for burgers. They make those burgers with the others and have a strong possibility for contamination with bread crumbs. They really are not careful. I trust McDonalds with their hash browns and fries here because they use a separate frier for them. I also trust side salads there. I go to wendy's for frosty's sometimes as...
  9. I agree she responded way too defensive. I mean you gave some very useful information and they could test for it before saying that it is not celiac disease. If he is allergic to gluten and has the same symptoms why not be tested? It doesn't make sense not to rule something out. She even said you gave useful information after your first post and then she...
  10. Yep and thanks for posting it...I always like to learn new things
  11. I know it is so expensive. I use Bare Escentuals and since I had to switch lines my parents are paying half and even then I find it expensive I had to get rid of literally all the makeup and that was hard because some of the colors worked so good for me...but then I figured it it makes me feel better I'll find another good color. Hope you find something...
  12. jmengert-Be careful about CoverGirl lipstick. I called them and they said that their lipsticks were good except they told me the ones with fragrance in them could have traces of gluten in them. I also called Clinique and they could not guarantee me so I threw all of my clinique stuff away:( I like that brand 2. The foundation I use in Bare Escentuals...
  13. Celiac is a genetic autoimmune disorder. If you have it all of your kids should be tested. There is a chance that they do infact have it and the sooner they are tested the better. They would be very fortunate to find out young. From what you are saying there are signs of celiac and since you have it it makes me suspect it more.
  14. Yes oats is a no no. Is there any gluten-free bread available to buy where you live? I'm sure there is a way to make bread without those ingredients. If you do a search on the Internet for substitutions for xanthan gum you might get results.
  15. I called Lancome a week or so ago and I checked about 10 things of lipstick and they said it was all gluten-free. But when I asked about all of their products they said they could not guarantee it and I would have to check with each individual thing. So do you know if all the products are gluten-free molly? That would be really cool if that whole brand was...
  16. jknnej- I use dove soaps, shampoos, and conditioners, hairsprays etc....I called them and was told that they will not hide anything in their ingredients. I like to stick with one brand that I know is gluten-free. It is easier for me at least. For makeup ALL of Bare Escentuals makeup is gluten-free...lipstick, eye liner and shadow, mascara etc...some...
  17. Thanks celiac3270...I didn't even know Subway had a gluten-free list. I worked at a tcby/ subway here where I live before I was diagnosed with celiac disease and they really aren't careful( at least at this place) and they touch the bread then put their hands(with gloves) into the things that are supposed to be gluten-free. It's just too risky of a place...
  18. I get nightmares occasionally. Some are worse than others. I will wake up sometimes with tears dripping down my face and my heart racing and im in a sweat. Other times I just wake up and turn my body and go back to sleep. Even with the really horrible dreams I can usually go back to sleep pretty fast. I don't know if it is a correlation with foods I eat...

Mel-That's good that you found a doctor that is listening to you and not being dismissive of things. I think it is true about your husband coming along and a better response. Before I was diagnosed I had to go to the GI doctor and they couldn't take me for 3 months(when my mom called) when my dad called and told them I really needed to get in I was in there...

  22. When I have accidentally have gluten I get itchy on my elbows and around my knees. I will get bumps there and it will be itchy for a while and then the bumps will go away. My diet normally controls it. I don't get it as much now. Before I was diagnosed it would happen very frequently. This may not happen in everyone this was just my personal experience. ...

  25. I'm not sure exactly where it is located it used to be somewhere else in MD but she moved up to Hagerstown. We haven't been there since it has moved. It is called Grandma Whimsy's Cupboard. The card here says Special Occasion Cakes, Cooking classes and demos, wholesale and retail, and special events catered. I think it is open again since the move but you...
