ARCHIVED Wedding Cakes
KaitiUSA replied to anglepoise's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in MD and there is a lady that has a gluten-free bakery in Hagerstown that we know. I don't know if she does wedding cakes but you could ask. I don't know if that's an area of consideration. Good luck -
ARCHIVED Is Dextrin "glutenized"? What About Blue Cheese?
KaitiUSA replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Alot of restaurants are not gluten-free. Many of them may have items that are gluten-free but there is a high risk for contamination. If you are very sensitive to gluten do not risk eating out in places like that. You can get on websites and email the company and ask them. Many companies will give you a gluten-free list , tell you they do not hide it... -
ARCHIVED New At This...lots Of Questions!

Definately...listen to your body if something is right with that then go with it...maybe you need to inform your doctor about celiac instead of him falsely informing you Good luck with everything -
ARCHIVED On Elimination Diet For 5 Weeks With Zero Results
KaitiUSA replied to marielynor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes are you sure you were gluten-free? Gluten can be hidden in makeup, shampoos, lotions, soaps, and even foods you would never think of. You could have a celiac test done but you have to be on gluten of course for it to come back positive. York Labs test for a whole bunch of food intolerances so you might want to consider that. Hope you feel better -

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Question
KaitiUSA replied to Esch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not everyone in the family has it but they probably do have a gene for it. It is a genetic autoimmune disorder. My mom has a severe wheat allergy and we think my grandma, uncle and 3 cousins may have it as well but they have not been tested...we hope they will. Also, not everyone with celiac disease has symptoms so people in your family could very well have... -
ARCHIVED Very New To This
KaitiUSA replied to pmdny's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In Kraft and some other brands it is ok. They will not hide wheat, rye, barley, or oats under modified food starch or anything else. Only some brands do that so you can't just assume whenever you see modified food starch it is ok. Only for the brands that won't hide it it's ok. Progresso also will not hide anything. Other brands such as Campbells you can... -
ARCHIVED Non Celiac Going Gluten-free
KaitiUSA replied to krazikat's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As celiac3270 said, wheat is hard to digest even for people who do not have celiac. It would probably make you feel better in general by getting off of the gluten. The only thing would be if you are off of it and then go on a vacation or something and decide to get on it again it may not settle well. Your body would be so used to not having that then you... -

ARCHIVED Couple Of Questions For Now :)
KaitiUSA replied to 2009's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board:) Kraft foods are safe as long as they don't say wheat, rye, barley, and oats. They will not hide gluten under modified food starch etc.. in their products. Progrsso also does not hide anything. If you contact Progresso they will give you a gluten-free list. Campbells has a gluten-free list you can request as well. Amy's has... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Changes
KaitiUSA replied to Tutahl75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten-free for a little over a year now. I feel a lot better but yes there are some tough days I have to deal with. I take vitamins, enzymes, and probiotics regularly. Those things hep to boost my immune system... celiac is an autoimmune disease and our immune systems tend to be weaker. I notice when I miss a day having these supplements I pay... -
ARCHIVED Is Dextrin "glutenized"? What About Blue Cheese?
KaitiUSA replied to anerissara's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dextrin can be ok ...it is usually made from corn but can be made from wheat so you must check unless the food says gluten-free. Maltodextrin as stated by celiac3270 is ok when it is food in the U.S I would also stay away from blue cheese unless you contact a company and they say it is safe. -
ARCHIVED Gaining Weight Help
KaitiUSA replied to HappyBunnyGirl1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If you are eating alot and doing what you need to do don't sweat it. I was so uptight and wanted to gain weight so bad and it just delayed me from gaining weight. Once I wasn't so fixed on gaining it it gradually started to come. Sounds to me like you are doing a good job and are on the right track just keep it up and eat alot of fatty and high calorie foods... -
ARCHIVED Burger King, Macdonalds, Wendys, Arbys
KaitiUSA replied to deener's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes McDonalds offers a gluten-free list hash browns are on that. Where I live they have a separate frier for the fries and the hash browns I make sure everything I eat and the products I use are gluten-free. It's not worth me getting sick. I don't go to BK anymore....the only things I usually eat out at fast food places for are the hash browns, fries, salads... -

ARCHIVED Gaining Weight Help
KaitiUSA replied to HappyBunnyGirl1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Rye is a very big no no. Not only can we not have wheat but we can't have rye, barley, or oats. If you have a fast metabolism even if you eat alot if you aren't gaining means you should eat more or there could be something maybe holding you back. Give it some more time. It took me a while to get my weight back. I gained about 15 pounds back and I have... -
ARCHIVED Burger King, Macdonalds, Wendys, Arbys
KaitiUSA replied to deener's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes I have had that happen to be before to...with an onion ring in my fries...that i believe was the last time i was there at BK since I have had celiac. I agree they are very good personally nothing to me can beat the McDonalds fries...yum -
yes...you should have those ingredients checked to make sure they are gluten free. You don't want to put anything into your body that could cause a reaction. Better to be safe

ARCHIVED Burger King, Macdonalds, Wendys, Arbys
KaitiUSA replied to deener's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I will have McDonalds fries and hash browns and Wendy's frosty's but I am very careful when it comes to other things because of cross contamination. You got to be very careful. I definately would not get the burgers at a fast food place even if they are bunless. There is so much risk for cross contamination because they have a lot of bread around. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Question
KaitiUSA replied to Esch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should not be on a gluten free diet when you get tested. If you have been on a gluten-free diet I would def. be against the biopsy. If there has been damage due to celiac alot of it would have healed. Sometimes biopsies miss because of not enough damage to the intestine. If one was elevated while on the gluten-free diet chances are you do have celiac... -

Thanks...I can have dairy and soy so it doesn't really personally effect me..I didn't know how they would make it without any of that though. I really like Earth Balance that I have now and I'll probably stick with that. Thanks for the info I didn't know they could make it out of corn oil. have a great day -
ARCHIVED Safe And Comforting Foods?

Yes avoid gluten and when you eat take enzymes. Also probiotics are good to boost your immune system and help fight off things and also help with digestion. Try having tummy mint and chamomile teas by celestial seasons. Also altoids and peppermint things help with nausea.
