Some celiacs are lactose intolerant until their intestines heal. I had a problem with lactose at first but it went away. Some ice creams are ok...Breyers, klondike, popsicle, and good humor will all list wheat, rye, barley, oats right on the label or will be safe. Jell-o is a Kraft brand and their puddings are likely safe-just check the back for...

ARCHIVED Alternative Therapies During Glutening
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Those chips are gluten free. Actually alot of Lays, Frito Lay, Utz chips are gluten free and you can get lists for them. Also, the Lay's Staxx(which are like Pringles) are all gluten free and made on dedicated lines. So you can have alot of chips. The bread or the frozen food dinner likely set it off but I can't tell you for sure which one did. Once... -
I had the same problem. I have always been a petite person but while on gluten I lost 23 pounds out of nowhere. I hated it. The diet is the thing that helped me gain it all back. Are you on the gluten free diet yet? That's a start because with me it didn't matter how much I ate I would not gain weight until I was on the diet religiously for a while. I saw...

I am also hesitant like Tiffany. Anywhere you eat out even where they have gluten free menus there is always a risk for cross contamination unless all they serve is gluten free food. I try to avoid eating out at most places.

Alot of peanut butters are safe but you should always check labels ...I use Jif. Jif and skippy are all gluten free. Jelly I go with Smuckers-a brand that will say wheat, rye, barley, oats on the label or it will be safe As far as cereals go: Post Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles are gluten free(I'm not big on sugar but I love these) Envirokidz has some... -
ARCHIVED Alternative Therapies During Glutening

I use probiotics, enzymes, vitamins, and teas. I try to pump my immunity and give me a boost that way and the tea really settles my stomach. Also, mashed potatoes have always been good when my stomach is not feeling well. -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me >_<
KaitiUSA replied to tama-chan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, the typical response from a doctor if they can't figure it out is "it's all in your head" I was told over and over by more then one doctor that I was fine. All of my ER visits when my blood tests came back normal they said I was fine. Just don't believe that for one second. Your body is telling you there is something wrong. -
ARCHIVED Braunshweiger
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well Oscar Mayer is a Kraft brand and all of their products will say wheat, rye, barley, oats right on the label. If you do not see one of those four things then it is safe. -
I agree I didn't like Quinoa either. Love Tinkyada though...and love Chebe products too.

ARCHIVED Outgrowing Celiac
KaitiUSA replied to lipreader's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can't outgrow celiac. You may go through a phase of your life where you have alot of symptoms then the symptoms go away in another phase of your life but no matter what it is still doing damage. Once you have it you have it...nothing you can do except follow the gluten free diet. I've heard that alot too but they don't understand celiac. They obviously... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Recovery Time
KaitiUSA replied to otnemem's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's great to see any improvement so soon. Many people vary with how long it takes for symptoms to go away. Mine took 3months to feel alot better but still was not back to normal until the 8 months. For some people its longer and for some shorter. Depends on the extent of damage, age, etc. -

KaitiUSA replied to sweetiegrl109's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, I agree that people in college are way more understanding. They treat you normal and like it's not a big deal and don't look at you all weird. The people I have met actually seem intrigued and want to know more. They don't care what food I eat..my food looks normal and I bet half of the people don't even know it's different from their stuff. I understand... -
ARCHIVED What To Expect..
KaitiUSA replied to DuckyDiva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms sound like mine. One of my main symptoms was nausea but I never had vomiting with it. I get where you are coming from I was happy to found out I had celiac just to get an answer. The blood work should show the levels to see if there is indication of a problem in the body. Depends on the lab is when you will get the results back. You should... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me >_<
KaitiUSA replied to tama-chan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, those are common problems with celiac. If you have the gene and symptoms then likely it has been activated. Your doctor sounds like a complete bonehead who is not updated at all on celiac. The doctors get paid enough many so change doctors and go to one and request it be done..you are paying and you have reasonable belief that it is celiac. ... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Could This Be Cd?
KaitiUSA replied to Jocelyn357's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hear great things about Enterolabs. Obviously since you are gluten free testing should not be done because you need to be on gluten for that. How long have you been gluten free? Any improvements? I think it sounds like a possibility of celiac -
ARCHIVED Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to Sasquatch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you have IgA deficiency because the total IgA is used to rule it out but that was low. That can make your otherwise positive tests come back negative. As fr as tTG goes...that is a wonderfully accurate test that is pretty good for detecting damage, soon to take place of biopsies in at least children for diagnosis. A test they didn't test you... -
ARCHIVED Ham Flavored Seasoning
KaitiUSA replied to JacobsMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The flavoring is the only thing that jumps out at me. Caramel Color is ok in the U.S. Modified corn starch is ok...the only time it is a concern is where they say modified food starch because they do not tell the origin of it and it could be wheat. When it is corn it is fine -
I am the one on the right(the shorter one at 5'4) Also, to answer your ? about symptoms...they vary person to person and there are over 200 symptoms. Fatigue is actually the most common symptom. Anxiety, depression, pain, nausea, mood swings, weight loss, weight gain, etc.you name it, it can come with it. Celiac can cause chaos anywhere in the body...

ARCHIVED Enlarged Spleen.....
KaitiUSA replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yep, as Jen said, there are many triggers and that could have been yours. Your body just said "Enough" and snapped. -
I realize not all doctors believe there is yeast overgrowth in the intestines but to my surprise my doctor was different. Now, the medical doctor ordered a stool test done..they were actually looking for food poisoning because I have had ecoli before. Anyway, what came back was candida and he goes hmm I have not seen that before. Apparently, it was a pretty...

ARCHIVED I Kinda Feel Like Crying
KaitiUSA replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Be careful of dietitians/nutritionists because alot of them know less then doctors when it comes to celiac The best thing you can do is research it yourself so you have the knowledge. At least you know what is wrong so you can fix it. Your husband should read up on celiac a bit too so he realizes that your son has to strictly follow this diet or serious... -
ARCHIVED Enlarged Spleen.....
KaitiUSA replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well everything can be affected by celiac so yes the spleen can be affected. Mono which was my celiac trigger also caused my spleen to become enlarged for a while. -
ARCHIVED New Member Here....hello Everyone!
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
DancesWithWolves-The manufacturers list I posted are ones that will not hide it. They will have wheat, rye, barley, oats clearly on the label or will be safe. There are some products we can and can't have. These brands make it easier for us though because we don't have to look for the natural flavorings, modified food starch, and analyze all the ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Getting Under Control
KaitiUSA replied to MySage's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Her levels are going down so thats good but for 6 months gluten free I would think they would be lower then that. Could there be any little bit slipping in? -
I live in MD so my recommendations would probably be too far for you. However, if you go to this home page and scroll down there is a link to recommended doctors by other celiacs and look in your area. Hope that helps a bit.
