ARCHIVED How To Find Hidden In Cosmetics
KaitiUSA replied to sundance's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes it has gluten in it. We don't have to worry about it being absorbed into your skin because the gluten can't get through(unless you have an open cut or something) The problem with products is you have a high chance of having even traces get into your mouth. Say you touch your hair subconciously throughout the day and don't wash your hands after... -
ARCHIVED Just Have To Vent....
KaitiUSA replied to Hennessey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow did he have to use the epipen? Maybe your husband either needs to play a bigger role and learn this or you should say maybe we should only keep food in the house that your son can have if he is going to feed him stuff he can't have. That would make me mad too so I completely understand where you are coming from. Did he not know it was wheat or something... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac/uc Help!
KaitiUSA replied to Maureen73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pregnancy, stress, and other things can cause celiac to activate. Everyone has to be careful with products, cross contamination, etc. Some people may not get symptoms but they will still be doing damage. You can't judge anything by the symptoms. Any amount of gluten will give you damage. This is for all celiacs too. -
ARCHIVED Mainstream Food List
KaitiUSA replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The following are mainstream brands that will list wheat, rye, barley, oats on the label or will be safe. You don't need to read the label for any questionable ingredients because these brands will not hide anything under anything that is otherwise questionable. So just look for one of those four ingredients Aunt Nelly’s Balance Baskin Robbins Ben&a... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Possibility?
KaitiUSA replied to Mjohnson73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How would it be rude to tell them limitations? If it was diabetes would you still think its rude to tell them limitations? It's the same thing except a different disease. It is a big deal if you do not follow it. 40-100 times more likely to get cancer, diabetes, and other life threatening and disabling things. Also takes an average of 10 years off your... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookies
KaitiUSA replied to greg-gard's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make my own. The store bought gluten free ones that I have tried have been pretty gross in my opinion. There may be better ones out there then the ones I have tried though. Homemade ones I have got to taste normal. -
ARCHIVED Dh Wants To Let Ds "cheat"
KaitiUSA replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If what Tiffany said does not scare him enough then I do not know what will. Even minimal amounts of gluten can cause major damage and not allow him to heal properly. As the previous post says, minimal amounts of gluten as frequent as once a month has been shown to be like not even following the diet. 40-100 times more likely for cancer, and other life threatening... -
ARCHIVED Coq10 And Nac Supplementation
KaitiUSA replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to use CoQ10 supplements. At first they did well for me then they started causing some problems(I think my body had enough of it at that point or something). The kind I took was gluten free too(I took them for a little bit post diagnosis. -
When they put the braces on I am not sure what kind of adhesive they use but you may want to check and see if that is gluten free. Also when and if they do impressions you need to see if that stuff is gluten free. Those would be the only things that come to my head right now. Also when you go to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned make sure that the stuff...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac/uc Help!
KaitiUSA replied to Maureen73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep, you sure can have both. What Richard and Jen said I completely agree with. Jen's post with those lists will definitely help you out with food and products. As far as products go, yes they need to be checked. Lipstick is an obvious. The thing with soaps is if you wash your hands and it has gluten then prepare food then your food is contaminated. You... -
I had braces before the onset of my symptoms.I wore them probably a year before my symptoms started. They were a bit painful at first but that's about it.

ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Not?
KaitiUSA replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I have heard of that before. Doesn't usually happen but I believe that gluten intolerance can turn into celiac even without the gene. That would make sense too. -
Yes, the test that was mentioned in the previous post has been done by many people who live in Canada and would probably be a good option for you. They test for celiac genes and gluten intolerance genes.

ARCHIVED Skinny Guy Losing Weight On Gf Diet
KaitiUSA replied to steve-o's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Alot of tuna is gluten free. You just have to read the label to make sure. If it says like tuna and salt then it would be fine. It's the flavored kind and where there are alot of additives is what you have to worry about. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Or Not?
KaitiUSA replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I personally would not bother with a biopsy. It would be useless at this point since you have been gluten free for so long. You would have to get back on gluten for 3 months. tTG is indicative of damage in the intestines. -
Hey I am also 18. You can email me anytime to chat.

ARCHIVED Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I understand your frustration. She did not have the tests done. These are the tests that need to be done for celiac below. If that doctor is using that test to rule celiac out I wonder how many people walked out of there with celiac. That doctor needs a celiac lesson. Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA (detects gluten sensitivity) Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG (detects... -
ARCHIVED Celiac - Other Than Wheat Or Gluten
KaitiUSA replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No problem Lisa- I am glad I could help Symptoms of celiac can continue even when gluten free until your body heals the damage that has been done. It takes a while for symptoms to go away. Everyone varies with those times. Took me 8 months to get back to normal but I was feeling alot better and seeing major improvement after the 3rd month.Celiac is caused... -
Took me a few months to have no problems with lactose and milk. I had previously been lactose intolerant on and off my whole life prior to that. Now, I can have milk with no problems. Not everyone with celiac will have a problem with lactose at first but alot do. It should go away and get better as your intestines heal.

ARCHIVED Healing Foods/probiotics
KaitiUSA replied to kallie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Probiotics, enzymes, and liquid vitamins really helped my healing time so it's something to maybe try and see if they help you out. -
ARCHIVED Just Saw My Dr
KaitiUSA replied to JLK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor told you everyone was gluten intolerant and if you were celiac then they would know by now...thats a bunch of bull he is feeding you. He sounds like the regular doctor who knows nothing about celiac. Have you been tested for celiac? Have you been on ther diet? -
ARCHIVED Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, he didn't test for celiac. The tTG is the best test and will take place of biopsies in kids soon. However, the complete panel is very effecient and the total IgA serum is used to rule out IgA deficiency. This will tell you nothing in terms of celiac other then she would not have IgA deficiency -
ARCHIVED Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She did not have the full panel for celiac done according to those results. She had 1 of the 5 tests done. Definitely can't rule it out with just that. I am glad she is having some good response to the diet -
Kamut is not gluten free. Also, certain rice breads fall apart and taste like trash but there are good ones. Foods By George Cinnamon English Muffins are good but you do have to toast them do they do not fall apart Cybros Rice Rolls are delicious but I toast them too. Anything with gluten is bad. Doesn't matter if one kind has more gluten then...
