ARCHIVED Celiac Bloodwork Neg. But Symptomatic
KaitiUSA replied to tamaramalave's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac is commonly misdiagnosed for celiac. Also, celiac is NOT an allergy so an allergy test will not pick up on it. She would need a full celiac panel. At this point if her symptoms improved then I would keep her on the diet. Sounds like she is either celiac or gluten intolerant(my guess-celiac) I would find a doctor well versed in celiac because it... -
Thanks so much Sue. I will definitely be in contact with you about that if things take that direction.

The severity of the damage can determine how bad you feel in some cases. In other cases some people just plain do not get symptoms but get alot of damage nonetheless. When I am glutened usually it takes a good 2 weeks for the main reaction to end. The 7th day is usually the worst for some reason. Not everyone is the same though. If a packaging says...

Thanks everyone Sue- I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. The TSH was down pretty low for a while and then once I got on the diet it stabalized and never got worse. The TSH this time around went up but its still on the lower side of normal(just barely normal..but nevertheless it still went up ) so it is something to for sure keep an eye on...

For those of you that know I was dignosed with Graves Disease(hyperthyroid) in March of this year because my levels were slightly off. It has been off since before I was diagnosed with celiac. Anyway, it was in beginning stages so I did not need treatment until levels increased. Well I went in this month for a checkup to see where levels were and levels...

ARCHIVED Starbucks Coffee
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Frequent accidents(once a month) is just like not even following the diet because you keep giving yourself damage and it will not heal then. The diet is the only thing that will prevent the damage from occuring. It will set you back quite a bit to have gluten. It's not worth it..the damage and the risk you are giving your body. Starbucks drinks are gluten... -
This is place where you can vent and share your feelings. There will be some different approaches and everyone is welcome to share them on here. If you have any questions at all you can ask them here. The whole point of the board is to help people learn and support them. I don't think anybody really got mad either.

ARCHIVED Old El Paso Taco Seasoning Mix
KaitiUSA replied to misskris's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maltodextrin in the U.S is fine unless stated otherwise on food labels. This is a law they MUST follow. That is only with food however, medications are different but with food it IS safe and will tell you if it is not. Could have been MSG. Even though MSG is gluten free it is so bad for your body.Maybe there is some at a health food store to get without... -
I second Tiffany. You need to do what is best for you and your sons health. Maybe he should read up about celiac a bit and see what it can do if you are not extremely careful. Does that mean make your husband go gluten free...no of course not..but he needs to be educated so he doesn't make you or your child sick. If he reads up on it a bit he may understand...

No, I think that is being a great mom I would do the same. -
ARCHIVED I Figured Out My "gluten" Source! :)
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I hope that is really what was it. It could be anything at those fast food places though because they can easily cross contaminate with anything. They make your burger by itself right? Like they just don't take the bread off? That would for sure be a problem if they did. Anyhow, feel better soon -
ARCHIVED Help With Food Ideas: Gluten Free Etc.
KaitiUSA replied to redheadheather's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, that is actually common believe it or not. Some people lose and some people gain. Symptoms can vary from person to person and there is no symptom that you have to have...some just never get symptoms. I can help you as far as gluten free foods go but I don't know about what you can have as far as other allergies so I can't really help you there. Maybe... -
ARCHIVED Getting Your Child Off A Certain Favorite Food?
KaitiUSA replied to Mjohnson73's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can tell him that it will make his intestines sick and he can't have that stuff anymore but present him with yummy tasting things he can have. Also, while he gets adjusted you may not want to eat that stuff in front of him because that may make it hard for someone so young who has ate that stuff but now can't have it. Also, get some really good... -
ARCHIVED Will Damage Already Done Heal
KaitiUSA replied to matt4444's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, if you have frequent accidents then its just the same as not following the diet. You need to be strictly no gluten. Everyone has accidents and yes the damage will heal-but not if that happens frequently. For some people to feel better it may take a few weeks..for others it takes months. Took me 8 months to get back to normal but I felt better after... -
ARCHIVED Back From Docs.. More Bad News
KaitiUSA replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hopefully he does grow out of it. The gluten free diet may help him to outgrow the other allergy because his system will be stronger. Looks like you have quite a handful...but your right it could be way worse. Definitely smart to get you tested...another thing, if it is not eggs..when I first started the diet I was not sensitive to gluten and everything... -

ARCHIVED Chicken & Rice Soup
KaitiUSA replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
First, natural flavoring can have it. Second, I am not sure about chicken broth but I know some people add things we can't have to the broth. Amy's makes soups that will say gluten free on them if they are. Shelton's has some good chicken rice soups and other kinds as well that will aso put gluten free on the label too. -
ARCHIVED What's Your Worst Cross-contamination Story?
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes I know what you mean...some of my extended family still look at me like I have 7 heads and get this laugh when I start talking about celiac and how they should be tested and how I am extremely sensitive. Don't feel alone though, I definitely have increased sensitivity to gluten too. -
ARCHIVED Back From Docs.. More Bad News
KaitiUSA replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
LOL...I'm with you on the coffee..... Did the doctor say the severity of the allergy? Sometimes it can be very minor so you could have it in moderation, that can not be done of course if its a severe allergy. Like maybe he could have things that have a little bit of eggs in it but not like eggs straight or something with alot? Maybe you should get allergy... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Worst Cross-contamination Story?
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jterrano-When I first went gluten free gluten did not really phase me..I was sick no matter what I ate. After being gluten free for a while I continued to get more sensitive to it and sick with the smallest amount. The doctor that told you that you would not get GI symptoms was wrong, you can get symptoms with increased sensitivity. Not everyone may continue... -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Disease Cause Frequent Headaches? Help!
KaitiUSA replied to deejay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A positive biopsy could rule celiac in but a negative one can't rule it out. Could be a possibility you have a gluten intolerance but not full blown celiac. Or you could have beginning stages of celiac and that's why tests came back low. Headaches can be symptom-not everyone gets the same symptoms..the other symptoms you are describing are also those... -

ARCHIVED New Delphi Lists! Product Lists!
KaitiUSA replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
He should not be on the diet while testing is going on. A biopsy can come back inaccurate if on the diet at the time of it. Also, please remember a positive one can rule it in but a negative one can't rule it out.
