  1. I do not have many details, but my niece was overweight and always hungry but small for her age. Now diagnosed gluten in tolerance for almost a year she has slimmed down (no more distend belly) and grown several inches! I know my sister was very relieved to get her into the normal range!
  2. TMI warning as well!! I understand your question. I think that I have narrowed it down for myself when I am glutened my diarrhea is VERY Greasy, like fatty looking. It is the gluten passing that you can not process. It will also change in color to a yellow or green (lighten) basically, and sometime be acidic and burn. My sister and I have spoke about...
  3. I have the "Gluten Free Grocery" is awesome! I get all my flours there to make gluten free bread in my bread maker! I do have a lot of luck at the Glenview Costco, Dominicks and Whole foods too! I also order the angel foods allergy free packages, the breaded chicken is amazing! I love eating out, despite my condition, and have had a lot of luck in this...
  4. I would be concerned too! I was fighting vitamin D deficiencies, endoscopy came back with major inflammation, poor bacteria, and acid reflux. They put me on acid reflux meds and told me to go on a high fiber diet.... I ended up in the hospital with surgery removing my gallbadder (which wasnt the problem). Month later we figured it out.. It baffles me...
  5. I live in Northbrook, in the north chicago suburbs.
  6. I love Baby Cakes! It is gluten free and vegan. You can buy it at most bookstores. Unfortunately it is sweets not entrees but great baking! Open Original Shared Link
  7. I have had two very bad experiences no matter how careful I am with buffets. One time the wrong dressing, which I was told was gluten free was labeled with the wrong spoon. It sucks getting glutened from salad, totally not worth it! The next time after I had learned from the dressing experience, I had another salad bar that made me terribly sick, we spoke...
  8. Bare Minerals is what I use and they are gluten free except the 100% natural lip gloss or lipstick. The BUXOM lip gloss if gluten free and I love it. I use the line b/c except for the exception it is gluten free and I don't have to think about it! Sephora, ULTA or professional hair salons carry them! Hair care, govanni is great! some cheaper products...
  9. I use GNC women multi-vitamin with Iron and NatureMade multi-vitamin. I had to have prescription vitamin D when I had a deficiency but now I maintain it with just a multi. For women I also take cranberry extract to avoid gluten-ing infections. I also like Glucosamine 1000, for joint pain and vitamin D 1000 if I am feeling a problem. I would get...
  10. I was mis-diagnoised with Crohn's, after an intestinal infection, several months before going gluten free and now am diagnosed gluten intolerant not Crohns. May of us are skeptical of doctors because of poor treatment as well. Now that I am gluten free, I was able to stop all crohn's medicine (hated the steroids!) and acid reflux medicine! Medicine free...
  11. Long version warning! I was diagnosed with IBS at the age of 8 and told that I was having panic attacks and stress from my father being deployed in desert storm. Went through all the testing put on every diet imaginable including high fiber and whole wheat! They found that I had inflammation and gave acid reflux medicine! With them not helping me AT...
  12. I am very excited for you!! After 1 year of doctors I recently achieved a referral for Genetic celiac test! My sister who is a Marine Corp wife fought with Tricare and achieved it as well for her and her daughter, Free! My sister carries DQHLA2 and her daughter and I neither! First degree relatives of celiac with gluten intolerance for us! It is a slow...
  13. Tough decision. Your gene could be active and silent, active later in life, or never at all. I am not sure of your sex but you can pass it down to your children and not exposing them to gluten for the first year of their life, greatly helps the chance of activation. A gluten free diet is tedious, expensive, and inconvenient, I do not wish it...
  14. Well it is hard to say? This was posted awhile ago on our forums but it might help: Posted 03 February 2007 - 02:38 PM KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce is NOT gluten free. We e-mailed the company a couple of months ago to find that our families favorite sauce is off limits. Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ is gluten free that is what I use. I am sorry your mother...
  15. I received a borderline lupus result before being gluten free. Don't remember all the details but I did have a positive ANA but something else was borderline negative, sorry I can't be more specific. They were also not able to rule out crohn's disease. I was told that I have genetic markers for auto-immune diseases. My mother and sister both (HLA)-DQ...
  16. Welcome to the forums! Your story sounds very similar to mine. I have exercise induced asthma that worsens with glutening. It makes exercise very difficult! My asthma developed around age 8, along with IBS. I have been put on a number of allergy meds (I do not take anymore). I gave up milk, they thought I was lactose intolerant. I was diagnosed with...
  17. I love California baby! (also for sensitive adults!) Target and whole foods carries it, great moisturizing and they have a cream great for the legs for people with eczema and different massage oils that I love! I also use pure coconut oil for after the shower. Open Original Shared Link
  18. This book really helped me figure out grocery shopping and pharmacy information. Recalls do happen but they try to post updates on their website. They have a section for skin care, hair care, over the counter meds. Its not complete but it helps. Open Original Shared Link Unfortunately, I have not found a master list b/c products and ingredients change...
  19. I know that if officially diagnosed Celiac, you can file for disability (can't remember the code) and the extra cost of gluten free food can be filed on your taxes as a medical expense. Ex: Gluten free Mac and Cheese $4 - Regular Mac and Cheese $2, = tax deductible $2 dollars if Medical expenses are over 7% of income, raising to 10% next year I believe...
  20. I am pretty sweet! But I eat milkshakes other places, they do have a seasonal shamrock shake still available and it is not gluten free maybe it is just a contamination issue with the mixer/blender used. I never had to check before b/c the triple thick shakes came straight from the machine no mixer used. I will ask if I get desperate another time. Do they...
  21. Thank you for your post!
  22. I tried a chocolate milkshake from one of the McCafes. They made it like Mcfrappe with the whip cream and drizzle and I was sick in 20 mins and for 2 days. Not sure why, their milkshakes used to come straight from a machine but I believe they have changed them at the McCafe locations.
  23. Can you order or supply the entire classroom with gluten free play dough? As a donation? I know my sister who has a Celiac 6 year old, she supply substitutes or the entire classroom when needed. I do not think you are being over cautious, it is a medical need. I know if the product is purchased and sealed, the school should be able to accept it. Check...
  24. From what I understand, Vitamin E or Tocopheryl can be derived from wheat, soy, or corn. If it is derived from wheat is it not safe for Celiacs. It can be safe if derived from corn or soy (I am assuming that is why it can be found on gluten free products). It is commonly found in lotion and make-up for the skin. I avoid Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) when possible...
