ARCHIVED Gluten Free Body Lotion?
Heidi S. replied to Tigercat17's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use California Baby, Calendula lotion for sensitive adults. Its gluten, soy, dairy, oat and nut free. Has coconut oil for moisture and natural fragrance, I am very fragrance sensitive can't even go into a department store fragrance area. The whole line can be found in the baby section, I get mine at target. They have a first-aid skin cream and a face... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Great Value Brand Moving Away From gluten-free
Heidi S. replied to JayinUT's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think since the new legislation has gone into effect as of April 2008 that the Walmart brand was never very strict on the gluten. Now my items say "may contain wheat contaminates" etc. No dedicated lines or suppliers so they are trying to cover their butts. I guess we just have to take some chances for generic brands and eliminate if certain products... -
ARCHIVED How To Go About This?
Heidi S. replied to Heidi S.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They are a federally run day care on the military base that she lives on. They told her they have 2 other children with Celiac's and have a special diet for them but they will not allow her to be on it without a note and no outside food is allowed due to allergies. She is there for 2-3 hours, right now she goes without but it breaks my sisters heart to... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Yeast Infections
Heidi S. replied to Chalula88's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a similar problem and it was related to soda and not getting enough "dry" time. I would definitely see the doctor to have the bacteria cultured for what antibiotic to use. I personally, can not drink more than a soda every other day without problems due to the sugar. I buy and drink a lot of cranberry juice regularly. 1/2 water 1/2 juice to lessen... -
ARCHIVED How To Go About This?
Heidi S. posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I will try to make this short but here is the scoop. I am 25 years old and suffered my entire life with misdiagnosed IBS since 3. Recently told to go gluten free by Gastro with major damage but blood test negative and scope "he forgot to run the celiac panel on biopsies" don't get me started. I am living gluten free and have never felt better. ... -

ARCHIVED Isn't Maltodextrin A Gluten-containing Ingredient?
Heidi S. replied to Becky C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What I understand is: If in the US, maltodextrin is supposed to be gluten-free. From corn, rice, or potatoes. If outside the US, laws are not as strict and can be questionable. Bottom line for all of us, we are more sensitive and can react to things differently, so evaluate on a personal level if you are having a problem. Some Celiacs do have problems... -
Me too, very happy it worked out for you! It is extremely nice to have a full meal at a restaurant and be served

ARCHIVED gluten-free Cosmetic Products Free Of Salicylates
Heidi S. replied to sylviaann's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are Dr. Bronners, Yes to Carrots and Alba lip glosses gluten free? I was told that the Physicians Formula organic line has vitamin E (Tocopherals) was from wheat germ so I haven't tried it. Have you gotten word that it is gluten-free? I know that California Baby ( & for sensitive adults) the Super Sensitive Shampoo and Body wash, No Fragrance is... -
ARCHIVED Isn't Maltodextrin A Gluten-containing Ingredient?
Heidi S. replied to Becky C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is confusing however maltodextrin is sugar from corn. As long as you can tolerate corn and corn gluten you are fine -
I have never asked for my steak to be cooked on foil at Outback. They are certified GIG and have a code in the computer for gluten-free steak, I am not sure how they prepare it but my husband who worked for Outback back in college said they certain parts of the grill for steaks and all their steak seasoning is gluten-free so I think that is why I am ok when...

I have seen a correlation with my asthma bothering me more anytime I get gluten-ed.

Outback is my favorite gluten-free restaurant chain. I am very sensitive as well. The Outback's in Georgia are VERY knowledgeable! The ones in North Carolina that I have been to are not as much but still great! I normally get the Victoria filet as well sometimes the outback special. I love the garlic mash potatoes and if I get a caesar salad I ALWAYS...

To me it sounds like the pain could be related to a vitamin deficiency, like others have said. I had gotten so bad with pain I went through physical therapy, chiropractor, and pain meds. My doctor told me I needed to change my PROFESSION! What a joke! Finally they came up with either rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia. In a chance test they discovered...

ARCHIVED Budget For Groceries
Heidi S. replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think your budget is great! I have figured out a few ways to cut costs but you may already be doing these things: 1. Pretty obvious, I buy in bulk any mixes off the internet and a bit more if I find free shipping or buy one get one free. 2. I make many crock pot meals or soups (great with left overs) . Anytime you add broth you can add 1/2 the meat... -
ARCHIVED Name That Gluten!
Heidi S. replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I doubt it is the pop weaver from Walmart. I wrote the company last month and this is the response: Good afternoon Heidi and thank you for your email! Popcorn represents our company's only business and we take a great deal of pride in the products we produce and that leave our plant. We are very committed to bringing our customers the highest quality... -

ARCHIVED Buttered Popcorn?
Heidi S. replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can not be much help in the theater popcorn or fair popcorn ally. I would worry about contamination with hands, not cleaning the machines, or the powder butter they use being bound with gluten in some way. I did write pop weaver to inquire about their product in early august 2009: Good afternoon Heidi and thank you for your email! Popcorn represents... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurants In Raleigh, Charleston, And Savannah
Heidi S. replied to mjr6's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
All great suggestions! I have a favorite website for traveling gluten-free restaurants. It does have most of the gluten-free chains addresses and phone numbers but it also includes personal businesses. You can update the cities with gluten-free options that you find, I try to as much as possible! Linked here with Raleigh selected: The maps are... -
You definitely have it harder than me (being just gluten free for now), I have not totally figured things out on just the gluten side so I can not even imagine being on an even stricter dietary regiment. In my opinion, human culture puts a lot of emphasis on eating as a social experience. My work colleagues invite me out a lot and I tend to decline but...

ARCHIVED Looking For Anecdotes/funnies Re:celiac Disease
Heidi S. replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh wow, laughing my butt off at the Lisa's experience. Most people are totally clueless! I know I have a few but ill have to think about this one -
I am truly sorry you had that experience. I myself have had a stress attack or two feeling totally unprepared and hungry, surrounded with food that I couldn't eat and crappy service. You may have already thought of these things but something to think about. Things that I live by: [*]A binder that I keep with me in my car or in my suitcase when...
