  1. YES! Soy is evil. But for me, I can tell the difference between soy and gluten. Gluten means a quick trip to the ladies room, followed by a deep sleep. Followed by no sleep that night, followed by no bathroom for a few days, Ah, the contradictions. Soy gives me high blood pressure, along with stomach pain that feels like toothpicks jabbing through my...
  2. Thank you!! I love EA too. -Daisy
  3. Do you react to soy? I can only have "Philip's better Lemon Chicken" from PF Chang's because I can't tolerate soy. You may want to try eliminating soy and see if that helps your system at all. It did mine, but I can't really enjoy PF Changs anymore. . . Sorry! Or it could be CC, as other posters have suggested. -Daisy
  4. ((((((Hugs)))))) Not much else I can add beyond what has been said. So sorry that you had such miserable pain, but very happy to know that the miserable pain may be ending! Best wishes for you. And take good care of yourself! -Daisy
  5. Glee (Gluten + Free) That incredible feeling you get when you realize that there is something at a public function that you actually CAN eat. (Also, the feeling I have today, knowing that tomorrow is my last day at work, and then I am quitting and leaving that gluten filled eating people place!!!!!) -Daisy
  6. Another convert! Congrats-and enjoy a 'clean' house!! -Daisy
  7. Turns out the syrups (at that time) at Starbucks were ok. But now thier frappaccinos are no longer safe. At least the regular ones, not sure about the light, but the risk of CC there? Scary! I ban them now on principle. Shelly Case's book, Gluten Free Diet, is an amazing resource for questions on ingredients, grains, nutrition, and quite frankly,...
  8. I liked when I went into starbucks right by me and explained that I couldn't have gluten, and I wanted a carmel apple cider. Could they help me look at the ingredients and determine if it was safe? She picks up the bottle of carmel sauce and reads off the ingredients, and pauses after "natural and artificial flavors." "Well, natural flavors are at least...
  9. No, rather, thank you for dinner! And, we will be going back! Hopefully soon.
  10. My husband and I were down that way in April. We stayed in Manitou Springs itself, which is only about 10-15 minutes away from the Springs. In Manitou Springs, the Coquette Creperie has the best crepes--amazing for breakfast, although they do have lunch and dinner selections. We ate at the Craftwood Inn for dinner, it was a pricer place, but as it was...
  11. Ah, welcome Tiff! Tell them you read on here that depression is concurrent with celiac and may go away after starting a gluten free diet. Not much info, but I think the reinforcement of ideas will encourage my belief that celiac may promote depressive behaviors, and that eating gluten (for an undiagnosed celiac) will encourage (mentally) depressive...
  12. Well, ditto K8ling and Tiffany, Dumb Dr! Welcome...To feeling a million times better. Reoccuring ulcer? That was me too. My Dr. and I both said that was due to my particular life stresses. Now we know better! Same stresses, only I either am dealing with them better; or, I'm not poisoning myself with gluten and therefore feel like a new woman. (And...

    ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance?

Hi Tina! Have you tried keeping a food diary to track the sweats and relate it to what you eat? I just challenged soy again to see if maybe I can tolerate small amounts, and it's a big no. Big, icky, no. On your second question, I just went to an allergist, and she said that elimination and challenge is the best method to determine food intolerances...
  14. The Dr. is an ENT, who was recommended by my GP. His office does allergy testing, which is handled by this one nurse. Unfortunately, I'm quiting work in three weeks to go back to school and get my master's, or I would look for a different Dr. Insurance coverage will run out at the end of August. -Daisy
  15. GFinDC, did you find out you were uh, coffee intolerant (I love my coffee!!!) through testing or elimination? I wonder because I know if I avoid it for a few days it bothers me to go back to drinking it, but only for a day or two. Once I readjust to it, we get along again, and I can wake up in the morning. . . mostly. So if I were to eliminate coffee...
  16. Okay, now that I'm back!! Missy's mom, cumin makes my stomach cramp up. Just feels like my stomach is turning inside out. My coworkers were telling me to go home all day! Not fun. The more I had, the worse. Just a little seemed to be less cramping, but still enough to avoid. sa1937: I'm not too excited about this dr. I was checked in by the...
  17. So I went to the allergist to inquire about allergy testing for both foods and environmentals, and was told to think about what foods I wanted to be tested for. (uh, isn't that his job???) Ok, so anyway, I have been avoiding soy, and just challenged it to be sure. Yep, heart racing, pounding, stomach hurting a bit. Cumin is really evil. I'd like...
  18. I found Bragg Amino Acids, which while made from soy, are apparently processed enough so that I don't react to it at all!! Tastes GREAT, and is not fermented, so my husband, who is an alcoholic in recovery, can have it too. Extra happy here! -Daisy P.S. Have found this both in my grocery store (Kroger variety) and natural food store.
  19. Well, I went to the allergist, and left feeling totally annoyed and frustrated. So I have nothing useful to contribute. Except that skin testing for food allergies is not reliable. Yep. That is all I got from my afternoon. Okey dokey. Bye. -Daisy
  20. On an allergy related topic (but can't help with the food), I had hives from grasses and weeds when I was 18, and have been taking allegra for seasonal allergies ever since. This year, got hives again, and today will be visiting the allergist to find out what happened!! I know from various online reading sources that you can develop new allergies as life...
  21. I subscribe to "Living Without." I very much enjoy every aspect of every issue, even those that may not apply to me, such as childrens' allergies, or autism articles. The recipes are great too, although I haven't baked anything since I was diagnosed. Cooking, yes. Flours. . . not yet. After reading those reviews online, I decided that for my money,...
  22. I forgot to mention, I had a lot of yeast infections for the year before my diagnosis, and now I take acidophilis (also nature made) once a day. If it was candida, which it is possible, the acidophilis as cleared that all up. -Daisy
  23. Sorry for not checking back here sooner! The Evening Primrose Oil is pills, I don't remember if there was a specific dosage recommended. I probably just followed the directions on the bottle. As far as any safe brands to take, the last time I took this was before my diagnosis last year, so I have no idea what would be safe. . . although, it looks like...
  24. Evening Primrose Oil is good for cystic breast changes. That would be the hormonal related breast changes that (SUCK) can absolutely cause pain and tenderness. I have dealt with that for the last 10+ years. Any breast changes should be seen by your Dr., as everyone else has said already. All my best! -Daisy
  25. Back to the original point, maybe those people who suffer from gluten intolerance (and still must avoid gluten to be healthy) prefer to refer to thier condition as a disease when speaking to waitstaff at restaurants. Disease is a powerful word and can help people to understand how seriously gluten free needs to be taken. Just for the record, I have Celiac...
