  1. I gave up on casein almost completely because I continued to have brain fog and trouble with my eyes. I still have to wear sunglasses out of doors.
  2. I can tell you he will not find celiac disease by doing a barium enema. You need to insist on an Endoscopy(upper scope) and have a biopsy done. Be proactive and insist on it. He is probably looking for diverticulitis on the barium enema. I have some of that too. Before I went gluten-free my blood sugars were all over the place, I almost passed out in Eckerds...
  3. Novemer 2003, never formally diagnosed, GI won't give me a formal diagnosis since i don't carry the gene! Almost 2 years gluten-free and CF.
  4. Novemer 2003, never formally diagnosed, GI won't give me a formal diagnosis since i don't carry the gene! Almost 2 years gluten-free and CF.
  5. My auto immune disease got worse, I developed type 2 Diabetes! Before that I had to have half of my thyroid removed because it was destroying itself. I also get bad headaches from allergies but my migraines have lessened. You name it, I've had it. The only thing that helps is the gluten-free diet and exercise. I thank God I am losing weight so maybe the diabetes...
  6. I used to get the cramps in my hands, I would have to massage them and it really hurt, as long as I stay on the diet I'm OK..
  7. I have a lot of itching, I had to change my soap to Dove and my shampoo to Garnier Fructis. I used to use Nexxus but it has wheat in it. My back still itches, don't know why (no rash). It could be your soap or skin lotions. I was on Doxy for 10 days, couldn't find out if it was gluten-free but the skin started to peel on my fingers, a sure sign that I got...

    ARCHIVED Scoliosis

I don't have spina bifida but I remember reading on an x-ray a long time ago that I had a "spina bifida defect". I also have scoliosis. This is very interesting, I would like to read more about it.
  9. Besides that it can't do a biopsy, so why have it done?
  10. I had many neurological symptoms before a diagnosis. Has she been tested for Diabetes? The fact that she is losing weight and feeling shaky could be symptoms. Could you be more specific about her problems? Has she ever had an Endoscopy or Colonoscopy? What about diarrhea, bloating or even constipation. Is there any history of GI issues in the family? Where...
  11. My answer to the fatigue is exercise. I know you feel tired but if you start out just 5 min a day on the treadmill or stationary bike it will increase your energy level. I am up to 40-60 min a day. Somedays I really have to force myself to do just 10 or 20. If I get past the first 10 min then I feel I can do more. It makes you feel like you are accomplishing...
  12. Just wanted to let you know that it takes time to get your immediate family to get tested. I had a phone call from my daughter asking me to e-mail her the tests she needs to have done. She has a rash on her hands and I have been telling her for a year that she needs to be tested. Her call came out of the blue, but I'm glad she is willing to do it. I have...

ARCHIVED Dr. Thinks Everything Is Ibs

I had the same type of pain in the right side and right back. I had 4 different test for GB, all were normal. When I had my Colonoscopy my Dr said I had a lot of air in my abdomen and I need to take fiber pills every day. I suffered quite a few months with it but it went away, the fiber pills do help. Now the only time it occurs is if I have been glutened...
  14. Hi back to you. The first thing I would do is get a complete GI workup if you haven't already had one. Everyone needs to do this after the age of 40 or even younger, just like a pap test or mammogram. This includes a Colonoscopy and an Endoscopy. I fought the idea for a long time but I'm glad I finally agreed because they found a condition that I didn't know...
  15. When I was first diagnosed I spent the whole summer in bed. The only way I got better was by eating very simply and light. I ate mostly chicken, pork, potatoes, rice, very bland veggies and fruit. Be careful of any dairy, some of us have a problem with it and it causes many of the same symptoms. I'm 2 years into the diet and can only tolerate Cheddar Cheese...
  16. I was sick for years with allergies and migraines. In the year 2000 they found a non-malignant nodule on my thyroid. It was an autoimmune thing, my thyroid was destroying itself. I had a bad time after surgery (almost died) and after that I started to get really sick. I had digestive issues, allergies got worse, had a lot of problems with my eyes, vertigo...
  17. How do I put some info into email from this site. or isn't it allowed? I think my daughter might have dh and I wanted her to read a few of your posts. She plans to get tested this week YAY!!!
  18. My son just got tested for that. Everything was normal. The Cardiologist said that he thought it was from not drinking enough fluids. He increased his intake and is doing OK.

    ARCHIVED Shingles?

I've had shingles several times. Before I break out I get pain on the surface of the skin, weird!. Then I get these real tiny red bumps, very itchy and painful. It usually occurs on my thigh. The skin Dr gave me an Rx for Valtrex to take before the eruptions and Domboro soaks to apply to the skin. They usually dry up in a few days. I agree about getting medical...
  20. I also have had eye problems including migraines which cause you to have distorted vision. A few months before my diagnosis I would have what I called "attacks". About 45 min after eating breakfast (containing gluten) I would get very dizzy, anxious, and get like shimmering pools of light in my vision. I couldn't stand bright lights, my eyes were crusty,...
  21. If I use hair products containing wheat then my scalp will itch like crazy. I don't have DH anywhere. One time when I was getting color applied my scalp started to burn and the beautician had to rinse it off right away. I haven't colored my hair since. Luckily my gray hair is not so bad, I'll just have to live with it.
  22. I am also gluten intolerant. My GI doc ( who started me on a gluten-free diet ) is now insisting that I can eat gluten (and dairy) because my gene test was negative, I had no damage to the villi, and my antibody came down. Every time I tried either of these food groups I get sick. I think that he thinks that it is all in my head! One of the worst things...
  23. To the question about the Pennsylvania Dutch, we are not necessarily Amish or Mennonite although some are. My ancestors were German who came here in the early 1800's to escape religious persecution. Some Amish were from Switzerland and Germany and have strict religious beliefs. In school whenever we had to tell our nationalities my Grandma used to say, tell...
  24. I was a registered nurse for many years and I worked a lot in long term care. First of all you must have the doctor write an order on the chart ordering gluten-free meals. If they don't accomodate then I would speak to the charge nurse and the Director of Nurses. They can send specific instructions to the Dietary dept which should be written on the card which...
