  1. Thanks. I should consider that. This could occur even 2-3 months later? One of the reasons I included singulair in the elimination diet is because diarrhea is listed as a common side effect. I guess it's time to challenge the singulair... - Stacy
  2. Is your vitamin D okay? My hair was dry and I was getting cold all the time, so I asked my doctor to check my thyroid, iron and D. She checked them and said they were ok, but when I asked for a copy of my results I saw that my doctor missed that my D was low. (It even had a * next to the results.) After I started D it got better.
  3. I started a strict elimination diet awhile ago because I suspected other intolerances besides gluten were causing continued diarrhea. Within days the darrhea went away. I have asthma and was taking singulair, and I eliminated singular with the diet. I was worried my asthma would suffer, but it did great. I gradually added nearly all foods back in with...
  4. GABA works similar to alcohol. You can also look into magnesium. Valerian root is also very common, but look up research on liver damage with too high of doses.
  5. I saw a bunch of boxes of Envirokidz Gorilla Whatever Organic and Gluten-Free cereal mixed in with clearance items near the gardening area of Tallmadge Walmart, on sale for $3.12. I don't buy them but that seems like a good price. Not sure if they are near expiration date or if the store isn't carrying them anymore. Thought I'd pass it on.
  6. I'm on an elimination diet - I went down to the Neolithic diet and am gradually adding individual items by eating them in pure form twice a day for a few days - with 3-4 days in between new items. It's worked, because the diahrrea I've had for a year went away the first day on my elimination diet. I want to challenge soy soon since it's in my vitamins...
  7. I checked, and No Doze has corn starch, so unfortunately I can't do that until I add corn. The elimination diet says no tea, but I may do tea until I'm weaned off. I went caffeine-free in college, and I survived. (Then I had kids and needed it again!!) Thanks for the input so far.
  8. Stacey - I sooo hope to be off this way before January, but thanks. How did you figure out you needed to avoid what you are avoiding?
  9. After 17 months of diahhrea, I want to do this right, Takala. Plus there's no way I would want to have to repeat this. So I'm starting with the bare-bones diet then adding in culprit foods - and when it's time to add dairy I may have to differentiate between casien and lactose. (I hope nothing involved in dairy is my kryptonite - that would make me sad...
  10. I'm tired of still having diahhrea, so I'm finally ready to do an elimination diet. I am very much dreading this, but it is what it is. My biggest dread is giving up my morning coffee mixed with milk and chocolate syrup (a homemade cappucino, I guess) - but since dairy and chocolate and coffee and sugar and caffeine are among the no-no's - it would be...
  11. Some people with fish allergies respond when fish is being deep fried in the area. If the corn dogs were deep fried and gluten got airborne that could be a problem. But that almost sounds more like an allergy. I did get myself sick once making cobbler with Bisquick - which is very light and probably got airborne. Therefore you may need to avoid areas...
  12. I've had trouble with my hands falling asleep way too easily, and now I have heel pain in one heel. I never connected the two, but a physician friend suggested they may both be peripheral neuropathy - which he said is commonly due to a nutrient deficiency. (No, I don't think I've lost heel fat, because I haven't lost fat anywhere else such as my butt, if...
  13. A week after moving my grandmother into an assisted living I had sudden GI symptoms, night sweats, weight loss, abd pain. My doctor thought I may have picked up giardia from the assisted living (very common, I guess) and treated me for that. Half my symptoms cleared up immediately - so I think she was right - but half the symptoms stayed so I saw a GI doctor...
  14. It's probably too late into the semester to switch, but does your college offer web-based courses? Same credit hours, just all online... Great for people with medical concerns.
  15. I'm replying to bring this post back up - since I have the same question. Any good primary care doctors around Akron, Canton, Tallmadge, Kent areas that are familiar with the intricacies of celiac disease? (Not a GI doctor, unless s/he also understands the neurological and other problems that can occur.)
  16. Thanks everyone for the input so far. I don't always remember my vitamins every day, but I'm trying. I take Walmart's generic multi, with 400mcg of folic acid, 6mcg of B12, and 15mg of zinc (all 100% RDA). My mg is 500mg (in addition to what's in my multi), my vitamin D is 5000 plus I have a therapy lamp I plan to use when the sun isn't shining as much...
  17. These situations are delicate. We get angry, and justifiably so, but I fear two things about getting aggressive: 1)having restaurants think people with celiac's are defensive and demanding and then cringe whenever they are faced with us, and 2)getting the staff angry enough they sabatoge my food when they're out of sight (people are human). I tend toward...
  18. If I'm traveling and don't have many options, I go to a steak place when it's not busy, and ask the hostess before I'm seated if the chef would be able to make me a steak on foil with no seasoning because I have a wheat and barley allergy (I use the word allergy because it gives people visions of throats closing up and ambulances). I smile and say thank...
  19. Sorry no one replied to your post yet, and you may already have your answers, but I've known people who were able to finally conceive after going gluten-free. However you've obviously conceived before. One symptom untreated celiac is absence of a period or lighter period, so going gluten-free often makes women have heavier periods. You already said having...
  20. I had GI symptoms at the onset of my celiac being triggered a year ago, and they resolved with a gluten-free diet and resume with any accidental glutening. I also think some neurological symptoms came along with my celiac's, but they're harder to pinpoint since they've continued on despite being gluten-free and don't really worsen with a glutening. My...
  21. I get symptoms 2 hours later. The next day I feel fatigue.
  22. You've already acted as much as you can - by communicating your worries and educating her (although it sounds like she already was educated). You have to let the rest go - it's in her hands and you're not doing yourself or your relationship with her any favors by getting to the point of resentment and nagging. Remember the 'Serenity Prayer' - seek ...
  23. You could probably search through a lot of old threads on if inhaling certain things produce symptoms. Gluten hitting your lungs shouldn't be a problem - instead the gluten has to hit your intestines. One thing to consider, however, is that anything going into your nose and mouth could potentially hit your stomach - since it's all connected. I'm not...
  24. Can you or anyone suggest a good potato vodka? (I don't like rum or tequila.) Thanks!

    ARCHIVED Anxiety

Magnesium can help some with anxiety. For full panic attacks, The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by New Harbinger Publications has a chapter on coping with panic attacks that is excellent. The book is usually popular enough it's on the shelves of Borders or Waldens, or you can find it online. Typically around 20 or 25 dollars. The whole workbook is great...
