  1. "Equal Oppurtunity Disease" I like that, lol Well, I did figure out that chocolate triggers migraines for me as well - I cannot handle even the tiniest amount of caffeine. Glad I'm not the only one who got the 'get more fiber in your diet' junk. I was eating so much fiber, I was beyond bloated and in pain, and STILL having blood in my stool...
  2. That's a very interesting question, and I'm going to be interested inthe results! I know in the past, I've had a VERY hard time getting my doctor's to listen to my issues. Most of the time it was written off as 'hormonal', or they ignored me entirely (like when I was 14 and complained about my back hurting awfully and all the doc did was run a thumb...
  3. There's only a few of us that eat the dressing here, so I've been saving odd pieces of bread loaves that I've baked in the freezer . Turns out, my loaves that don't rise make excellent croutons, lol! So, I'm going to cut of the pieces in the freezer and toast them for the stuffing first, then add all the ingredients and bake. We never put it in the bird...
  4. That's why my doctor wouldn't test me! He said that I hadn't had a significant weight loss. Reason being... I was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. I'd eat, then an hour later be starving again b/c (I'm assuming) that my body wasn't getting what it needed and my brain kept telling me that I needed to eat MORE. It didn't really matter what I ate. I didn't gain...
  5. I don't know, but my son hardly ever gets sick, and when he does he's the first to recover. Makes sense. His body is so used to fighting his allergies that it is in hyperdrive all the time. I would have sworn he was getting the dlue, but the enxt day he was fine.
  6. Well, its pretty self-explanatory... I need to find a doctor for my family that knows about Celiac, in the LaSalle/Peru, Ottawa, Spring Valley, Mendota area... I'm willing to drive a little bit, but I'd prefer to not have to drive to Peoria cause that is a haul! But, it seems like Peoria is the place to be lately, so if it comes down to it... Thanks...
  7. No, I haven't yet! Thank you, I will. His skin is almost cleared up. It's been probably, what, 2 weeks now? Something like that... You can still see the marks from the red bumps/pimples, whatever you want to call them, but they don't appear to bother him. Though, nothing usually does! His pain threshold has got to be amazingly high... lol.
  8. ^^ What she said! I think I feel insanely guilty about my child's autism. Like, I'm the one that caused his food allergies because of my own gut issues. But I didn't even know about them, so there's nothing I can do. His immune system is ALWAYS on high alert (b/c of his allergies, etc). Maybe if I'd learned about my gluten problem before I got pregnant...
  9. Oh, I forgot to mention that I was born with my scoliosis. The doc that saw me at birth mentioned it briefly to my father, and said it would never bother me (ha!). The kyphosis was only recently diagnosed b/c I mentioned something to the chiro, and he said "Oh its this". Oh, thanks... My back hurt so bad when I was a teen, I used to cry. I didn...
  10. GNC has some chewable acidolphilous, that I give my kids (its top 8 free). I forget the name of it, and of course, we're out, lol. But its strawberry flavored, and its only like $8 or $9.
  11. I personally don't feel vaccines made my son Autistic... but rather, perhaps, contributed to a problem he already had a birth. Exacerbated it, perhaps. He had obvious signs of severe food allergies at birth, jaundice, and probably more. The child never slept, even as an infant. He had horrible reactions to every single set of shots he got. And each and...
  12. Well, he has Autism, and he generally doesn't tell me if something hurts or itches. He itched at it, which, I've seen this child COVERED head to toe in hives and not have a care in the world. He was just mad b/c we took the offending food away from him... This is different. I initally thought it was hives, then I thought it was chicken pox, but I took...
  13. I don't know for sure, but my son had something VERY similar... I wanted a skin biopsy, but doc refused... At first, I thought it was hives, but they just looked like pimples so... And it was after he'd been gluten-free for a few days, then had some more gluten. It happened again about 2 weeks ago, after he'd been gluten-free for a week and...
  14. Scoliosis and kyphosis here as well. I try not to get angry about it, lol. It's mild, but no one ever caught it and it caused me a LOT of pain as a teenager (and no one caught it cause no one took me to a doctor). It's caused more problems over the years than I care to mention...
  15. My family is not getting the vaccine (personal reasons), and when my oldest came home from school on Monday he had a fever of 102.1. He just didn't seem himself. A friend recommended I get some elderberry extract since it helps fight viruses. Sure enough, today he's fine. Yesterday he was lethargic, and crabby, and had a mild fever even with Motrin. ...
  16. A gluten-free diet is generally pretty healthy. Avoiding dairy is a personal choice, if you feel it will be helpful, then by all means do so! I personally haven't noticed any problems with dairy recently, so I'm not quite ready to give it up, lol. If you give it up and don't notice anything in a few weeks, then the dairy is probably OK. It generally takes...
  17. Well, I see it as you have 2 choices: 1. Demand a Celiac test. Hopefully it gives you the right answers. 2. Go gluten free and see if it helps. I personally went with the latter. My doc basically refused to give me the test, and I know from being on a gluten free diet a few years ago that my symptoms all went away. I didn't even realize...
  18. I'm going through this right now! I was out for the count with a migraine yesterday, and I am experiencing much of what you described, but mine is mostly on the left side of my Head (it always is...). I'm beginning to think I got glutened, but I can't be sure. Either that or I'm getting sick! Hopefully someone might know what causes this. I am...
  19. Is there any testing available that you *don't* have to be on gluten for?? Doc finally offered to do the celiac panel for my 4 year old, but he's doing great gluten-free, and if he feels even remotely like I did, I don't want to put him through that. And also for myself (who's doc refused to do the celiac panel, and is happy enough that I'm gluten...
  20. Yup! I was always hungry! I'd eat a full meal, then be hungry again an hour later. I put on a TON of weight, despite going to the gym 3-4 times a week for more than 6 months. I'm really beginning to wish my doc would have just given me the Celiac test so I'd know for sure, but I'm really leaning towards that...
  21. Wow! I can't believe your mom would be so dissmissive of your Celiac!! I guess when you're a baby and under someone's 24 hour care it makes it more real?!? I'm very grateful that my Mom not only is very supportive, but is going to try the diet herself. LOL, I was going over all the foods I *can* have, and she was impressed and surprised. I'll be...
  22. I have not been tested, but obviously have a gluten problem. All of my issues have essentially ceased. I still have some lingering things, but they've drastically improved.
  23. I hate that... my son is very well-behaved (he's VERY high-functioning to the point that a lot of times we question the diagnosis, but he still stims quite a bit and some other stuff). I don't make a habit out of 'blaming' his autism. Most people don't know that he has a diagnosis til some of the behaviour stuff starts to come to a head, and then they...
  24. Thanks. Yeah, we're definitely not eating out anymore unless I pick the restaurant. And Thanksgiving is always at my house anymore, because the last time we ate Thanksgiving at their house, they left his butter out ALL NIGHT! It was like soup, and said it was fine. So, now, I'm always cooking! You're probably right about the autism link...
  25. So, I've only really told a handful of people that I'm gluten-free/possible Celiac. I *KNOW* that I have gluten problems (whether its an actual allergy? Or Celiac? I don't know). I've told my Mom, my brother and his wife, and a few of my In-Laws, a few people at work also know. Mostly because they've offered me food, etc... and I've had to turn it down...
