  1. Last check up and the dental hygienist was astonished that I had absolutely no plaque on my teeth. No cavities, no issues. I've noticed that since going gluten-free/sf my teeth feel so smooth as if I've gone for a cleaning, everyday! They also seem a bit whiter.
  2. Lisa you say, "Please do your own research. Do a search on this site." I have! Do you know how many french fry threads/topic/discussions there are on this site? The link you posted for the gluten test results on McD fries is from 2006. I don't consider that current information since ingredients can change often so I went to the 3 most common fast...
  3. I would love a definite answer on the gluten status of the fries from McD's themselves as it seems to change every few weeks depending on the thread. I too have read that they were tested for gluten and came up ok but these ingredients are not something I would trust or eat! McDonald's Open Original Shared Link French Fries: Potatoes, vegetable...
  4. I recently came across KP aka 'chicken skin' on the DH thread. I have had this my whole life and never knew it had a name. I noticed it got worse within the past 3-5 years. I thought it was just my pale Irish skin!! Since going gluten-free and soy free the bumps on my arms have softened a bit. The dots on my legs aren't very bumpy but they are very...

    ARCHIVED Bloating...

I had the bloating so bad people would ask me when I was due! I didn't really notice much of a change after going gluten-free. That's how I knew I had something else going on. Eneterolab results showed I had a soy sensitivity. It was when I went soy free that made all the difference in my body and appearance. I had been bloated for a good 3 years and...
  6. I was cc'd the other night by some Spanish rice and there were some clues about 30 minutes after eating it - rumbling stomach, 'hunger' pangs, inability to satiate my hunger. Then around 4 am the pain woke me up and I had the Big D for about an hour and cramps for an hour after that. My stomach is still bloated and tender/sore but no other symptoms. I've...
  7. Be careful with the Japanese restaurant since they use one giant grill to cook everything you might get some soy in your food if they use soy and not tamari. You may want to order something from the kitchen where it can be prepared in it's own pan to be safe. I've also found that most places don't mind if you bring your own. I carry salad dressing and coffee...
  8. Tamari is a great substitute if you're looking to avoid gluten only. If you're trying to avoid soy too you can make your own soy sauce alternative using beef broth, molasses and seasonings. I call it Noy sauce and it's quite good. Ping me if you'd like the recipe.
  9. I have similar nightmares where I'm forced to drink milk or eat cheese. I dream that I forget that I cant eat gluten, eat it, and then I wake up panicking thinking it really happened. I have had a few funny dreams where I'm at work and steal people's BLT sandwiches or grilled cheeses at lunch time when they're not looking. Then I desperately try to...

    ARCHIVED Near East Rice

Old thread but I wanted to add to it in case anyone searches the topic. I believe I got glutened from the Near East Spanish Rice last night. The pain woke me up at 4 am and the Big D started and continued til 5 am and cramps til 6 am. I had a weird rumble after eating dinner and my appetite wouldn't be satiated, I was hungry soon after dinner ended despite...
  11. I was thinking the other day about how prior to discovering my food intolerances I was definitely a "Live to Eat" kind of gal. I used to think about food constantly. I watched the food network and PBS cooking shows religiously. I was always thinking about the next meal, my next recipe, my next experiment. I used to eat out a lot and loved to try new restaurants...
  12. As gluten-free products become more popular and more mainstream companies produce gluten-free items the cost will go down. Right now the companies making gluten-free items tend to be small which adds to the cost. Think of it like a boutique item rather than something you can grab at a big box store. Also, they're specialty items and stores only carry...
  13. My pinkies are above the joint and I am diagnosed celiac. My ring finger is also longer than my middle... is it a full moon tonight? :-) I have RA so it's possible my fingers are not good indicators. I too read something about a large forehead and a buffalo hump being signs of celiac but I have neither.
  14. Just like any other autoimmune illness (arthritis, type 1 diabetes, etc.) you'd have the genetic markers from birth. Often there's a triggering event that kicks the illness 'on'. Some folks can have the genes but never develop the disease or any symptoms. Women tend to have more triggering events than men: menstruation, childbirth, menopause. Hence the numbers...
  15. Growing up I was scary thin. At 5'3" it took a lot of effort to maintain a weight of 90 lbs. My parents used to fill me with pasta and milkshakes. They even let me have the occasional beer to fatten me up. Ha! Looking back I don't know how anyone missed it! Then I was able to put on some weight in my 30's and got on the other side of 100 lbs. Still too skinny...
  16. You're a better person than me - I would have pressed charges! And the temptation to slug her would have been hard to overcome. I'm so glad you confronted her, showed her the rash and pointed her to this site. This is not a person you need in your life. She is devoid of compassion. Dear canutillomom's cousin, I hope you are reading this thread...
  17. Health should always come first before weight loss. The weight loss should be secondary. Just because you don't have symptoms now does not mean you aren't doing damage to your intestines. So many of us have had ongoing medical issues for years, tens of years, most likely due to or exacerbated by the celiac/gluten issues. I know that if I had been diagnosed...
  18. I love Pamela's! I may send her a love letter. I bought the mix at Whole Foods and used my bread machine which I just got at Amazon for $50 (+ free shipping). I have eaten more bread in the past few weeks than I have in my entire life! I like the Bob's Red Mill mixes and I also love this recipe (love this blog in general): Open Original Shared Link I have...
  19. I've been seeing lots of posts where people are just starting out on the gluten-free diet and having trouble figuring out what might be causing them grief. Many have been gluten-free just a month or so and still having issues. This is normal and things will get better. It can take quite a few months for us to feel better. So many of us have gone undiagnosed...
  20. When starting out that tough love kind of response can be hard to swallow! Instead of dwelling on what went wrong why not take this moment and do something positive - order items from the gluten free mall. They even have a rice crispy like cereal: Open Original Shared Link Amazon is also a great resource. Also, do you have a market where you...
  21. First of all - hugs to you! I hope you're feeling better. Your cousin is a psychopath! What she did was assault. Calculated and deliberate assault. Assault for her own pleasure no less. She poisoned you for her own amusement. Would she give sugar to a diabetic? Peanuts to someone with a peanut allergy? Shrimp to someone with a shellfish allergy? ...
  22. My taste buds went all wonky after I went gluten free. Nothing tasted normal. Soda tasted horrible. Foods I used to love like peas and asparagus tasted like dirt. I felt like nothing quenched my thirst. My appetite was so low. I'm happy to say it passes. I have no scientific proof to gauge this but I felt like my my mouth, tongue and taste buds were healing...
  23. This is a great topic. I too wonder what damage, if any, has been going on all these years. Looking back I believe I have been symptomatic at different periods of my life, the worst of it kicking in about 5 years ago. Any complaint though was always blamed on my RA or the meds I took for my RA. It's a shame more doctors don't know more about celiac. Instead...
  24. I like Pepcid AC chewables. They seem to calm the gas down pretty quickly.
  25. I second the food diary idea. I kept one when I began my gluten-free diet and it helped so much. Anytime I seem to be having a flare up I go back to keeping a diary for a few days and re-read labels. I can usually narrow down the suspects then. When you have multiple allergies or suspect that you do this can help you figure it out. I also found that I...
