  1. i've had hypothyroid since 1992 and not quite a month on the gluten free diet so of course no changes for me (yet). it crossed my mind if it will improve. fingers crossed!
  2. it is ... but they are in 3rd and 7th this year so i usually do it when they have their reading time. so far its working out great for all of us! love it!
  3. i'm fairly new at all of the detective work we have to do and appreciate this topic, but i'm still confused. to me it seems like it truly isn't gluten free if it is produced in a setting that also makes gluten containing products ... regardless of "cleaning between batches" occurs because companies are still trying to watch their backs and say "*but* there...
  4. i've been just fine eating it ... the box does say gluten free though ... not sure if there is another rice chex.
  5. i also read that carmel color can be ify because of the source. i have kept a food journal of every bite i put in my mouth since day 1. its a tiny bit inconvenient but i'm 3 weeks into this so i feel like its a big help too. its a good reference if i need to figure out if i ate gluten somewhere along the way. maybe just eat whole foods too and cook them...
  6. thanks for the responses! i think my sister just needs to understand more about celiac and exactly *why* i can't do even a bite. i will check out some of those gluten free items to make my own dough ... haven't ventured down the baking road. for some reason the betty crocker gluten free cake mix scares me even though i know they can't claim gluten free...
  7. my sisters are coming and we have a tradition of pizza and cake on a girls' night and while i'm thrilled for all of us to get together since we only can about once a year, i'm newly/finally diagnosed with celiac after almost 14 years of illness. one sister is absolutely understanding and thankful for the diagnosis, but my other sister cannot wrap her brain...
  8. find a new one! i have hypo and it definitely needs to be treated ... if she won't do it despite the obvious need than she is a poor doctor.
  9. because of my thyroid (i thought or i'm sure its a contributor) i have 40 lbs to lose. i've always enjoyed exercise like hiking, walking and such but now being 3 weeks into gluten free i've got sooo much more energy i am doing mostly 3 to 4 mile walks (a dvd called walk away the pounds by leslie sansone) is great cause you can do it at home with the kids...
  10. hi and welcome! i'm into my 3rd week of gluten free and i've definitely gained more energy (despite the insomnia!). i'm also 37 yrs and so far i've lost 2" off my waist and 10 lbs just by eliminating gluten (i was one bloated girl!) lol i have yet to try the breads but did hear there are good ones out there and that you mainly have to experiment. cornstarch...
  11. several people on this site (myself included) felt the withdraw symptoms. they won't last and you will feel better soon (some issues heal quicker than others though). i'm just over 2 weeks into eating gluten free. by the way, my first blood test came back negative but another lab confirmed celiac. trust your instinct and don't give up!
  12. sounds like you have it. you will find a wealth of info here and sooo many people willing to help you with your questions and frustrations.
  13. it sure sounds like you are gluten intolerant!
  14. they tested me for lupus and celiac at the same time since symptoms are similiar. (i already have hypothyroidism). its great that they are really looking into celiac... as it took me several doctors and over 13 years! you could also give up gluten and see how you feel. best wishes!
  15. the smallest amount can make you sick. take a for instance with hand lotion ingredients- they are to be scrutinized because while we aren't drinking them if we are eating, the residual lotion could easily cross contaminate the food. chic fi la sounds awesome - but after you are feeling noticably *better* nothing sounds good if you know after you eat...
  16. the report says anti gliadin iga 13 with 10 being the cut off and the anti tissue transglutaminase iga says 5 and 10 being the cut off thanks for the help clearing all this up!
  17. great ideas ... thanks for all the tips!
  18. HLA-DQ 3,2 (Subtype 8,2) ... does 3 mean 8 and 2 mean DQ2? thank you!
  19. how are distilled gluten grains different and where are they found in? i have so much joint and bone pain ... i'm really looking forward to healing there but i'm not even a month gluten free so it sounds like it will be several months before its noticable. hope you feel better soon!
  20. thanks for your help! all of the extra #'s and letters were throwing me off. i think i'm also wanting to be extra sure so there is absolutely no if's ... and's ... or but's about the diagnosis. after almost 14 years of issues (and damage) i am reluctant to believe i finally have an answer but at the same time its hands down a blessing because i can fix...
  21. i just received my lab results and need help figuring out a couple of things - IGA 13 <10 normal HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1: 0302 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2: 0202 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,2 (Subtype 8,2) i know i've already responded positively to a gluten free diet but these numbers are confusing...
  22. i am waiting to hear back any day now from enterolab on my results. i did my research and had doubts and concerns but i did settle on using them for a couple of reasons. first, my own doctor did bloodwork but also told me celiac just isn't something they look for or suspect until it has been years. plus, bloodwork isn't very accurate no matter how long...
  23. we homeschool too! i noticed so many of you cut out dairy but what do you do for calcium? when i was 35 they told me my spine had degenerative changes and that was 2 years ago with even more bone and joint pain. how do you make sure you are protecting your bones if you aren't taking in calcium?
  24. i knew it was risky meeting my friend at a restaurant known for their awesome baked goods but of course i believed the girl at the counter when she said they do offer a couple of gluten free dishes ... (she looked it up in their binder of foods and everything so i thought it was alright.) i looked up the their website too and found wheat listed so i'm...
  25. thanks for the encouragement! that 1 incident just threw me for a loop especially because i've been so careful. i will gladly give up eating out for peace of mind that i truly am staying gluten free. i have also gone through my lotions, hair products (so long bumble and bumble!) and everything else i didn't realize could mess me up. i also traded my current...
