  1. i would say its got something to do with gluten ... ataxia is an issue for me ... noticed slight improvement(after 3.5 months gluten free) and now with my gluten challenge it happens frequently. again. (1 more week of gluten and i get my biopsy. i hope this has been worth it as far as the biopsy goes). anyway, do your best to stay away from it and...
  2. gosh, i'd say if you are feeling better not eating gluten than you should definitely avoid it. i think its safe to say there is no 1 test that will give you definite results (in many cases) so you may want more testing. did you have a genetic test done? that could be helpful. and as you know from reading around here you need to be eating gluten not limiting...
  3. be as strict as you can be. the smallest bite or a cross contamination will keep you from healing. its worth it to replace everything. its worth it to avoid all possible contact with gluten. best wishes!
  4. they say give them up to 3 weeks. my results took a little over 2 weeks.
  5. i'm constantly hearing my gut ... as well as others near me! i noticed mine actually made more noises for about a month into gluten free and then slowly settled down.
  6. quoting the book (pg. 127) "dh biopies for iga are usually positive for a long time after gluten has been stopped- and become positive again within a few months of ingesting gluten." hope that helps ...
  7. rewind 3 1/2 months ago when i first went gluten free and i lost 10 lbs in 1 month and steadily since. as of last weekend i am taking the gluten challenge and feeling it. like you, i am not an underweight celiac ... i had about 30 lbs i wanted to finally be rid of. BUT since eating gluten for a week i have not lost anything (actually put on 1 lb and my...
  8. well i decided to take the gluten challenge and have been eating it for a week after not eating it for 3 1/2 months. all the gi issues are there as well as bone and joint PAIN and for the past 3 days my right eye has been twitching like crazy all day long. hopefully your son's will subside when gluten is eliminated.
  9. i was just reading about this yesterday in dr. green's book (celiac disease the hidden epidemic). he said you could have flare ups for up to a couple of years after going gluten free. the test just needs to be done by a doctor familiar about dh so he can make sure the correct area is biopsied. (which is a couple of mm adjacent to the break out, not the...
  10. i just had my annual last week and mentioned to my doc about my cycle getting out of sync the past few months (which used to come like clock work without the help of birth control). anyway, she said its mostly hormonal due to all the changes taking place from eliminating gluten. she basically said it should straighten itself out but down the road if it...
  11. we recently dealt with a death in our family so i know what stress can do to you even if you don't have celiac. family members that do not have celiac seemed to have physical ailments from the emotional stress of losing a loved one. (sorry to hear you lost someone). i hope you feel better.
  12. aside from my gi issues, catching colds/flu and pnuemonia seemed to constantly be a problem because my immune system was so weak. hands down i believe there is a link between celiac and weak immune system. i caught it all despite my healthy intentions!! before diagnosis, i thought it was because of my insomnia and what they claim not getting a proper amount...
  13. oh wow, that's crazy! i don't think i'd of thought of this happening unless it actually happened to me.
  14. i've been enjoying the quaker brand carmel corn with pb and sliced banana! its been a good snack or quick meal. also, the regular flavor with a homemade avacado spread for another quick lunch or appetizer.
  15. i recognize now that i had "symptoms" my whole life but when i was 24 it triggered into a full blown daily problem. i kept having the most painful stomach aches and D for hours and hours to where i couldn't move and i went to the doctor about it to find that i was pregnant. symptoms stayed and more symptoms became an issue. we wanted another child only...
  16. you don't need gluten for the genetic testing. and its about unanimous that eating gluten will NOT guarantee a positive result. crazy. good luck!
  17. i really don't want to eat it again especially because its a hit or miss. maybe they will see something while they are in there checking me out but i just don't think i want to eat it if its not a guarantee. i just wasn't sure if 3 months did any great amount of healing. thanks for the advice!!
  18. my doctor wants me to have an endoscopy/colonoscopy. while i'm responding well to the gluten free diet, i told him he is doing it "backwards" that it may not be accurate ... should i start eating gluten again between now and my appt? he is checking me for other issues as well but i'm not sure if i should eat gluten again. just with a few accidents lately...
  19. you have given me some encouragement about my own hair growing back in! i have heard a few success stories but i have been gluten free for 3 1/2 months and my hair is still shedding. my friend is a hair dresser and she found a gluten free sodium lauryl/laureth sufate free line called SURFACE that i have recently started using. i believe its only sold in...
  20. i've dealt with bloating and i'm 3 months into gluten free. i started feeling less bloated after about 3 to 4 weeks. somewhere in week 5 or 6 i accidentally ate it somewhere though and my stomach bloated out 3" and that lasted for 4 days!! crazy. i also drink a lot of water and take hikes and walk a lot so that makes me feel better too. i try to...
  21. my hair has thinned a lot and it still hasn't come in ... its been 3 months for me. i have had a few recent accidental glutenings so i know that set me back to start. i am reallllly hoping it grows back in thicker as time goes on and i heal. my friend/hair dresser has been on a mission to find a great gluten free brand for me (its called SURFACE and you...
  22. i've had ongoing sinus infections, chronic bronchitis as well as pnuemonia 4x's despite taking meds properly. everything i've researched pointed to celiac being a possible link because of the chronic inflammation and poor immune system. have you tried the nettipot? that was surprisingly helpful to me. i know there is quite a bit of sinus and stomach...
  23. i googled that and it sounds scary. my bp is usually around 112/70ish and the doctor has listened to my neck checking for the telltale gurgling noise associated with blockage. he said it sounds normal. even though it happens daily but with no ryhme or reason i don't know the cause of mine and that's what is frustrating. and thanks for the possible cause...
  24. i've got hypothyroid that's been "under control" for about 18 years. i've been told that thyroid can definitely impact heart function. i thought it was my thyroid causing my arrhythmia but now i wonder if its celiac finally discovered. i'm only 2.5 months or so into this with a couple of cross contaminations so i've got a ways to go before i see improvement...
