  1. That's great and so funny!! I think I'll have to make things to bring to potlucks more often. We take turns bringing food but maybe I'll be bringing every time so I can eat something. We have my first potluck at church this Sunday and part of me is dreading it but I want to go and deal with this sooner than later. I hope nobody makes anything too amazing...
  2. I can't believe you were hit with TWO major catastrophes like that. The spider bites alone are so dangerous! Thank God you are on a gluten-free diet, because if you had not been diagnosed maybe the spider bites and infection would have been much more devastating. Like others have said, you are amazing to come through this with such a great sense of...
  3. I just got my diagnosis today with a positive blood test and emailed some people for support. A friend of mine just emailed me back saying "I looked it up and it doesn't sound like a big deal." I am so hurt right now at reading that. I've been crying all day long. I'm 40 years old and it took me my whole life of being sick and having unexplained illnesses...
  4. What are gluten free enzymes and where do I get them? I swear this is the only message board where you can freely talk about constipation and nobody thinks you are weird. LOL!!
  5. I just found out today although I suspected for awhile that my testing was going to come out positive. I posted earlier that I'm Italian and so much of our social life and culture is built around food. I'm struggling with this myself and grieving the losses involved with it. The good thing is people on here have posted so many places that will accomodate...
  6. Those that are more experienced please feel free to correct anything I've said if it's not a good idea. I don't want to steer another newbie the wrong direction, or myself for that matter.
  7. I got my diagnosis today too! I have been crying off and on all day long. I've been sick all my life and now I have explanations for all the things doctors were confused about for the last 4o years. I live in a city with healthfood stores, etc. nearby so I have no advice on that, but I just thought I'd say hello and let you know you're not alone. I am...
  8. All of you have been so nice to me on this board. I can't thank you enough. I feel so fragile right now. It is a new life isn't it? I can't remember a time when I wasn't somewhat sick or uncomfortable or dealing with some ailment. Amazingly, I've been quite athletic all of my life despite being sort of sick all the time and very sick plenty of the time. I...
  9. I posted this on another thread, but I got my diagnosis today. It's official. My blood test was positive. I just knew it was going to be positive and I already started this emotional roller coaster, but now I can't stop crying. You are all very nice people, but I didn't really want to join your club! LOL!!! So here I am in the club, and I'm elated to...
  10. I have one up the street and I just stocked up on a bunch of things. I love sprouts!!!!
  11. I'm totally new to all of this, so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. What came to mind is, are you eating lots of the gluten free breads and cookies and stuff? I am pretty amazed at how much junk food we have available to us (which is a good thing NO complaints! LOL), and even though it's gluten free I think some of it might be hard on your system...
  12. Just like most of you on this board I have been misdiagnosed for my entire life and just got my diagnosis at the ripe "young" age of 40. I had an attack of dizzy spells, vomiting, chest pain and stomache pain that landed me in the E.R. last Sunday (4 days ago) and the E.R. doc happened to be a celiac disease patient himself. When he looked at my history,...
  13. Well it's positive. I need to pick up my labs later but over the phone my doc gave me the results for my IgA. It's 28, and normal high is supposed to be 17. She's sending me to a gastroenterologist but I already started the gluten free diet a couple of days ago. All the other tests were in the normal range but that doesn't matter right? Any positive...
  14. Thank you so much for those well thought out answers. It really really helps to talk to people who "get it." I am greatly looking forward to that better health and it's worth it to me. But I will always be sad that I can't go eat deep dish pizza at my favorite local italian place with my italian next door neighbors. Sometimes you just bond over good food...
  15. Thank you. That explains it perfectly, well as perfectly as it can be explained since the knowledge isn't exactly vast. LOL From what I'm reading, many of the gluten sources are wheat related so even if it's a wheat intolerance, I'll be on a gluten free diet in general. So much to learn and think about. I know it's one of these because when I eat whole...
  16. Is it possible to have just a wheat intolerance but be okay with other glutens and wheat's cousins like spelt? I know I don't have wheat allergy according to testing, so they called it intolerance due to my symptoms after ingesting wheat. Althought my mother in law is an allergist and she says "If it makes you sick you're allergic. I don't care what the test...
  17. I am all new to this and don't have my formal diagnosis yet. Waiting on test results. I was diagnosed with wheat intolerance and lactose intolerance years ago as well as IBS, but I think that it's going to end up I need to be gluten free. Long story just like so many on this board have to tell. I am really struggling emotionally with the cultural aspects...
  18. You could have a stomache virus, which are not always accompanied by a fever. My kids have had their share of them and so have we after being exposed to their germs, some lasting a day or two and some lasting two weeks, some with fevers, some not. Some have only vomiting, only diarrhea or some include both. Stomache viruses are very weird that way. I...
  19. Disneyland is GREAT for any sort of food allergies as well as gluten free. You can stop by the City Hall on Main St. and they can give you info. Also ask at any restaurant. Pizza Port has gluten-free rice pasta that they will sub for you. Many of the restaurants have gluten-free breads available but you have to ask. Storyteller's Cafe in the Grand Californian...
  20. Thank you so much for all of that information! I'm going to print it out and save it. I'm totally overwhelmed right now.
  21. Thanks for the info and welcome.
  22. I totally know what you mean about feeling toxic. I feel the same way. I gave up dairy a long time ago, and that was one of my many diagnoses- severe lactose intolerance. But that hasn't cured me. I'm sure other people have gone through the emotional rollercoaster too, where it's "Yay I can make myself feel better!" and then "Graham crackers, pizza...
  23. Thanks! My concern is exactly what you are saying. Waiting around for test results which could be false negatives, or a gluten "intolerance" and meanwhile I'm sick a dog and can't take care of my kids. I'm going to do the diet now. I unofficially started today because no way was I going to eat anything else to make myself more sick. I might even have...
  24. Hello, I'm new here and I wrote a very long post asking some questions. But now it's not there after I submitted it. Does the moderator have to approve it and post it for me? I'm doing this one sort of as a test to see if it posts.
  25. Hello, I'm new to the board. I have had digestive problems my whole life and when I was around 19 I was told by an acupuncturist it might be wheat. I cut out wheat, cleared it all up, but was then told by an allergist that I "only" had an intolerance, not a true allergy so I could have some wheat and dairy in moderation. Well I'm 40 years old now and have...
