ARCHIVED My Gi Friend Disagrees With My Gi Doc'S Diagnosis, Wwyd?
sandsurfgirl replied to lizajane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are so many layers in your post, that I keep getting mad about things when I walk away and think about it. Does your husband realize the dangers of this disease and the bad things that can happen to you? Why in the world would he not want you better? My husband was overjoyed about my diagnosis to have answers after all my suffering and mine is... -
From everything I have read a positive is a positive no matter how weak or strong it is. Just like a pregnancy test. A faint line is still pregnant no matter what. In your doctor's defense, she may be trying to protect you by not sending you elsewhere. If you read enough on these boards, you'll see that many of us, maybe even most of us, have been misdiagnosed...

ARCHIVED To Have The Biopsy Or...?
sandsurfgirl replied to Kathleen Elizabeth Strawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is scary! RA runs in my husband's family and if he gets it he said he will go gluten free right away. So far he is fine. -
ARCHIVED Hives.

Okay so I just learned something. This is very interesting and I had no idea. Open Original Shared Link So autoimmune disorders CAN cause hives. Hmmm the things you learn. Yay, another symptom we can add to our list. Let's just keep piling them on shall we? -
Armand, you can have wine. Is there any wine with gluten in it? I don't think there is.

ARCHIVED How Do You Respond To Things Like This?
sandsurfgirl replied to bluebonnet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a few people who thought it was just like any allergy and that I could have some as long as I dont' overdo it, which you can do with allergies if they are mild. You have to explain that it's an autoimmune disorder which means that your body perceives gluten as a toxin, and to avoid digesting that toxin, your body will destroy your own intestines... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Some Food Recommendations
sandsurfgirl replied to nycgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went online and read reviews of products and then read stuff here. I am Italian and pretty picky about pasta. I really like the Tinkyada pasta. Betty Crocker has a great brownie and cake mix. My family devoured the cupcakes I made from the yellow cake mix. I am finding that my gut needs more healing and when I eat the gluten free junk food it... -
Hey Armand, welcome to the coolest club you never wanted to join! Are you sick right now with symptoms? If you are then you might want to do a simple diet for a bit to let the gut heal. I am off of soy and dairy because they are just too hard to digest right now. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into the diet. I was able to tolerate some dairy and soy before...

Celiac symptoms can be very severe. The first time I heard of celiac disease it was when a woman I rode horses with got diagnosed. Her health was getting really bad over the course of a couple of years and the docs had no idea what was wrong. I saw her go from riding her horse almost daily and being a vibrant woman in her late forties to being barely able...

They check for celiac with an endoscopy to take biopsies. He was at the wrong end. I think that guy needs to retire.

ARCHIVED Symptoms
sandsurfgirl replied to Painfullyfrustrated's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac disease is not an allergy, it's an autoimmune disorder which makes it in many ways more serious. Did your doctor know how to read your blood test results because many of them don't? Is inconclusive meaning totally negative or partially positive? You don't have to be positive on all of them to have it. Have you gone to an allergist for testing for... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Shows Early Or Well Treated Celiac
sandsurfgirl replied to gibsongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would find another doctor personally. He shows signs of celiac disease even though he is gluten light. That is serious. His celiac must be pretty bad if he's showing signs of it on a diet that is so low in gluten. She's gambling with your child's life and well being to satisfy her scientific curiosity or she doesn't know what she's doing. Either way, your... -

You can be allergic to weird things and not know it. My grandmother was getting hives all over her arms. It turned out she was allergic to newspaper ink. She started wearing dish gloves to read the newspaper and it all went away. -
ARCHIVED To Have The Biopsy Or...?
sandsurfgirl replied to Kathleen Elizabeth Strawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My blood tests were positive and I was sick as a dog. I refused to keep eating gluten and make myself miserable for a biopsy which is a gamble. If he wants the biopsy he has to eat like 4-6 slices of bread per day for a month or so and cause enough damage for them to detect it. Not something I was willing to do to myself. Your husband's doctor sounds... -
ARCHIVED Itchy Itchy Hives!
sandsurfgirl replied to runningcrazy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I got allergy tested it turned out I had become allegic to my THREE dogs. I had been tested in the past and came up negative to dog but it developed over time. I also found out I was allergic to my neighbor's enormous house sized olive tree. We have moved away from the olive tree (that's not why we moved) and my allergies are way better. Sadly... -
I wanted to add that I would not go to a GI doc who says there is "no treatment" for celiac disease. Are you kidding me? Umm, why yes Dr. Moron there IS a treatment. It's called a gluten free diet. There are far too many GI docs with that sort of nonsense lack of knowledge out there and I was misdiagnosed by 3 of them, plus the 4 endocrinologists, two...

The tests won't be accurate if you are on the gluten free diet, true, but the tests are not all that accurate anyway. If you don't have major damage yet they will most likely miss it. If the doctor doesn't know what he's doing he will most likely miss it, or whoever reads the test may read it inaccurately. If you don't have full blown celiac yet, but are...

I ended up with short stature and am pretty sure it's due to celiac. I was always on the tall average side until in 6th grade I mysteriously stopped growing. My family is mostly average to tall with a few short people thrown in but not extremely short like me. I'm only 4'11" tall. I know that bread you are talking about. It's more like a hockey puck...

ARCHIVED It's Really Sinking In
sandsurfgirl replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You all are so wise. Thanks so much for all your kind and thoughtful words. It truly is a paradigm shift and it is akin to allergies. I do have to be grateful that I don't risk anaphylaxis, just really awful stomache aches and brain fog, which is certainly awful, but won't kill me on the spot. This morning we left my kids' gymnastics classes and I... -
All of the food related traditions that I will never ever get to do again. Every year we go to Solvang and eat danishes and abelskivers and the most amazing waffles you can ever imagine. Of course I would always be sick after that trip and not know why. But still! It makes me so sad. I mean there are some things that really ARE about the food and not...

ARCHIVED Hives.
sandsurfgirl replied to Currypowder87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hives can be from food allergies and if you are getting hives from a food allergy, then you are at risk for anaphylaxis. Not something to mess around with. You need allergy testing to find out what you are allergic to and avoid it. My son is very allergic to walnuts and when he accidentally ate them and got hives all over his body we were rushed to the... -
Whole Foods is gluten free paradise. You could eat your way to 400 pounds from all the sweets and gluten free treats they sell there!

ARCHIVED Need Help With Lunch Interview
sandsurfgirl replied to knittygirl1014's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Bald salad" made me laugh! I think people don't get the word "intolerance." It just sounds so mild or foreign to them. Allergy, (even though it's technically not an allergy they usually don't know that) makes them think of scary things like hives and anaphylaxis and they will bend over backward to help you because they don't want to give you CPR. ... -
Hey fellow Italian girl here! Tinkyada pasta is really good. I'm new to the diet myself, only 2 weeks into it. Haven't found a bread I like so far, but I'm eating simply to let myself heal. When I'm better I'm going to try making my own.
