  1. We're on OC and my husband drives to L.A. Some days it's not so bad and others it's a total nightmare. If you end up needing to do the diet, you will make it work. If you can do all the things you do like skydiving, you can do this. Hang in there!
  2. I was waiting for your post Peter! Thanks!
  3. Thanks for all the cider info. I could go for that! I'll pass on the skydiving though. I am pretty adventurous. I love to surf, go backpacking, and all of that stuff but jumping from a plane I just can't bring myself to do. Not being able to do the things you love because of illness SUCKS. I haven't surfed in a long time because of constantly not feeling...
  4. Okay that's bumming me out. Wine is a necessity! I can give up good beer, but not good wine. I don't drink all that much but I love my wine. I'm on a simple diet for recovery so wine is out for now anyway. Reds are my preference.
  5. I'm curious to know what kind of doctor referred you because I haven't heard of any MD's using Enterolab. If he did the colonoscopy then I'm' assuming it's a GI doc? That is interesting and makes me wonder if Enterolab will be getting more acclaim in the future. The problem for you is that the gluten free diet will negate the results of the blood test...
  6. Are you serious???? I have never been there and I can't wait to go. I was watching a travel channel show about it and crying my eyes out when he was going on and on about having a "proper pint of Guiness in a proper Irish pub." That is awesome!!
  7. We all go through this grieving process in one way or other. The loss of freedom to just eat whatever and whenever you want is HUGE. I am only 3 weeks in and I have had my share of sobbing over never having Guinness again or not being able to go to Ireland and have Irish stew in a real pub. I know what you are feeling!! But if you do have celiac disease...
  8. I've heard that argument that humans are the only animals who drink milk after weaning age and drink milk from other animals. I don't really buy that argument. Humans are the only animals who cook their food too but I'm not going to stop cooking. We are not the same as other species of animals. We are set apart and we do millions of things other animals don...
  9. I would be very careful about that and read the labels. I have spent a lot of time lately in beauty supply stores looking at products and the herbal, organic, all natural types were the WORST of the bunch for gluten. It's wheat germ oil, and wheat this and wheat that, wheat wheat wheat in the natural stuff. Wheat is natural and great and all... if you aren...
  10. There is a withdrawal period and then your body is healing all that damage. I'm on week 3 and in the past 2 days I've felt normal. I'm still not 100% but I definitely feel more normal than I have in a long time. I think it also has to do with how sick you were at diagnosis. I was very ill, so I don't expect full recovery for awhile. If you use the search...
  11. He was quite convinced that gluten was the ONLY flour I could have. I am scared to trust his meatballs now. I could just see him at Sprouts asking for gluten flour and putting wheat gluten in it. Yikes!
  12. They do give cows a lot of hormones to make them produce more milk, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had estrogens. What did he say about organic hormone free milk? There are diaries that don't use that stuff.
  13. I've been eating Rice Chex and Chocolate Chex with no problems.
  14. You really have a good handle on what is causing your trouble because you have cut gluten down so much in your diet and then as soon as you eat it you get sick. Your IgA is abnormal for a reason. I would go gluten free for 3 weeks or a month and see how you feel. Make sure you go totally gluten free or you will be wasting your time. Be meticulous.
  15. If the two days you posted about are indicative of your regular diet, you aren't eating nearly enough, and well... the junk food. I mean we can eat junk food, of course. You have to have treats so you don't go nuts with this diet. But if you are eating so little food in the first place and 2 out of the 5 or 6 things you ate were chocolate that can cause...
  16. Your post makes me sad for you. I don't understand how he doesn't get it when he sees you getting physically ill. HUGS
  17. Oh I have another one too. My neighbors are Italian and so am I, so we will have spaghetti nights together or share sauce. His father was over visiting and I was explaining to him about having celiac disease and having to eat different pasta, change my meatball recipe etc. After we talk for about 15 minutes he says "Okay, so you can only eat gluten flour...
  18. I'm cleaning out my kitchen today as a matter of fact. I'm no expert since I'm still new but here are a few things I've done. I got a bright red toaster (thankfully it matches our decor) and put it on a different counter from their toaster. Their counter is near the sink and that's where they do their food prep if it includes bread or crumbs. My counter...
  19. I wanted to thank you so much!! Last night I told my husband about the electrolyte possibility and he agreed. I've been about 2 1/2 weeks on the diet and for the first 1 1/2 weeks I was having so many bowel movements, like 10 or 12 a day. Then I've been having a lot of D and then sometimes C and then back to D. It totally made sense. I drank a bottle of...
  20. This is sort of a funny story. I went to a beauty supply yesterday to find a good quality shampoo and conditioner that's gluten free. The man at the counter saw me reading all the labels and asked me if he could help. I explained to him about not being able to have gluten, which is in wheat, barley and rye. I told him that most of the products have wheat...
  21. I get my hair colored and I have to use a high quality salon product on it or it gets damaged easily. I almost started crying at the beauty supply yesterday because ALL the products I looked at had some form of wheat. I have been a tried and true Redken girl for years and I have to say bye to them. I looked at Aveda's site and it appears that they have...
  22. I swear by my chiropractor. It might be just back pain. We can strain it so easily without realizing it. That kidney pain could be a rib that's out and needs adjusted. I injured myself taking a yoga pose too far and my rib across my middle to low back hurt so bad that when I breathed in too deep it would kill me. My chiro put the electrical stim on me...
  23. I tried some of the gluten free breads and things and my digestive system can't handle them at all right now. I'm eating quite simply because I just can't digest anything too complicated. I didn't even think about electrolytes. I had to switch doctors because mine knew nothing about it or how to help me, and since I have an HMO it took a few weeks....
  24. My first husband was like that. I'll never understand it. HUGS to you.
  25. Homeschooler here too! Yes it is harder to make that workout time isn't it?
