  1. In an ideal world that's true, but sadly depending on the business you are in, it's not always the case. The culture of the company and the business can often dictate that you must dine out and that's the way it is. You can complain all you want, but it won't get you ahead in your job. I'm sure that if you arrange ahead you will find things to eat.
  2. There are no cut and dry tests to be done. The biopsy can be a gamble for a few reasons. You must continue eating gluten and causing more damage. Vomiting for that many years is downright dangerous. The intestine is long and you have to take a gamble that the doctor will choose affected tissue and that they will interpret the result correctly. Some are ignorant...
  3. Good luck! No matter what, the tests we use are just not that reliable unfortunately. You have to get what testing you are willing to endure and then ultimately make up your own mind in my opinion. Read enough people's stories and you'll see that it's just plain complicated.
  4. Oh and I LOVE it when people on here who were "lucky" enough to get classic positives on blood and biopsies tell others that they also need to do so. Testing for celiac is like gambling in Vegas. Save your money for the slot machines and find yourself a gluten free casino because you probably have better odds that way. Don't gamble with your health....
  5. No offense to your friend who is a GI doc, but from my own experience and the experience on countless posts here and on other boards, there are far too many GI docs like this friend who have no CLUE about celiac disease, gluten intolerance and what torture we live with. To ask you to eat gluten for a month and have invasive tests is BARBARIC in my opinion...
  6. Celiac testing is a joke IMO. I came back positive on blood tests but my idiot doctor said to keep eating gluten to confirm with a biopsy. So I promptly switched docs and will be seeing the new one next week. We all have bad doctor and diagnosis stories. I've read very few where they had a traditional positive blood test and positive biopsy and went their...
  7. I know. What was I thinking? I was hungry and knew the chili was supposed to be gluten free. If I get in a pinch like that again I will be smart and go for a baked potato and plain salad or something easy to digest.
  8. I was wondering if it's a glutening or just too complicated food for my system. You are right about not eating out. I've only done it a couple of times when I just did not have the time to pack food. The gluten free substitutes are really tough for me to digest right now too. I posted on another thread that I was worried about reacting to xanthan gum...
  9. Doesn't C Diff give you massive diarrhea though? My grandmother had that in the hospital and the D was very very bad and constant. She had IV's for dehydration it was so bad.
  10. Twice now I've had a gluten free baked good and then my nose got all swelled up inside and my sinuses started bugging me right after I ate it. I also felt sort of a funny sensation on my lips like tingling. They both had tapioca and xanthan gum so I'm suspecting one of those. I am freaking out about this. Tapioca and Xanthan gum are like gluten free...
  11. I was drinking Rice Dream too until I read on here that it has traces of gluten. There are people who drink it with no problem though. It has like 20 parts per million, so it's a trace amount, but there are people who are sensitive to that. It's hard to have to read everything and investigate it all. We just have to learn from setbacks and move forward...
  12. I am new to this, only 2 weeks into the diet. I have definitely gone through the stages of grieving. You need to give yourself time to process all those emotions, because there will be many of them. Feeling better and seeing the results of the diet on my health are big motivators. I have my sadness over some things, but I've found great gluten free versions...
  13. Has she gone for regular allergy testing? Hives are a histamine reaction and if she is getting them that often, she really needs to be tested by an allergist. It can be stuff in the air and not food. She needs to know her triggers.
  14. I would just say that I have food allergies and ask if you can know where they will be eating. If somebody isn't understanding about it they might be not so nice to work for. I think food allergy is just so easy to understand for people. They don't need to know the details about it.
  15. I have been gluten free for 2 weeks now. We ate at Wendy's last night and I think I got glutened. I had a baked potato but put my own butter on it at home. I had a side salad which doesn't contain croutons and I put my own salad dressing on it at home. But... I also had the chili. It's supposed to be gluten free but I think somehow it was contaminated...
  16. I am one of the unlucky ones whose body decided to hoard calories and make me gain weight instead of losing it. I have to lose about 60 pounds now so if I dropped 40 pounds fast I would probably throw a party! I'm pretty sure I've had celiac my whole life but never had a weight problem until my thyroid decided to go haywire too. So far I've only...
  17. Well now I feel like a dork. I didn't realize this was such an old thread. I saw it at the top and replied.
  18. I think it's wise to share information when it is proven to be valid. That means lengthy studies on varied populations and all of that scientific jazz. People come up with theories about all sorts of diseases all the time and maybe they look at a few things and say "Eureka! I've found the answer." It may or may not be. You have to be skeptical and careful...
  19. Thyroid disease is another one where there is much disagreement and inadequate testing. I was subclinical and thank God my OB recognized that and gave me thyroid or I never would have gotten pregnant. Then when I did get pregnant my numbers went wacko and I finally showed hypothyroid on the blood tests. Here in the U.S. they are talking about narrowing the...
  20. I'm 2 weeks into being gluten free. Everyday I feel a bit better and stronger but I'm not totally symptom free. I still have some dizzy spells when I have to go to the bathroom sometimes. I still feel tired in the afternoon, too and I still have a bit of nausea or D or C here and there. Today I was very dizzy in the morning, but I was on a field trip with...
  21. Yay for homeschoolers!! Today I went to a park day and it was the first activity I've done in months where I wasn't short of breath or having random pointless anxiety. I was short of breath for months and no asthma medicine was helping. Went gluten free and hello! I can breathe normally within like 2 days. This is day 14 for me. Yesterday and today were the...
  22. You are having way too many symptoms for being so young and you need answers. I would push my doctor for more tests. Repeat the blood tests if you have to. Get a biopsy done. I'm not sure how your healthcare works and if you can get to a specialist quickly or go to another doctor. You need to do whatever you can to get to the bottom of this. However you...
  23. Oh yeah those stomache bugs are making their way around. I still think it's not eating enough. I bet when you eat more you'll feel way better.
  24. At this point we just can't know. I went back and researched a lot of old threads. There are people who have followed his recommendations with no improvement but others who swear by him. Until he gets his work fully published and goes through all the regular scientific protocol we just don't know. I'm not sure I want to spend all that money for the...
  25. Any lettuce can potentially have bacteria on it. I always wash the bagged lettuce to make sure, but it's so hard to tell what got you. Make sure you are eating all of your points on WW, and eat your Flex points if you are hungry. Also, if you are working out you need to eat at least some of the AP's so your metabolism doesn't go into starvation mode. I get...
