  1. Jason I am so sorry that you are having such a bad time. I will continue to pray for you that you get the answers you seek and the healing you need. You are getting so much conflicting advice from us on here and your poor head is just swimming. But know that we are all trying to help and support you in the way that we know how. This will get better...
  2. Actually the biopsy isn't 100% either unfortunately. The doc has to take enough samples to get the damaged tissue. You also have to be consuming enough gluten for it to be positive.
  3. I did a quick mental calculation and I think you only ate like 600 or 700 calories that day.
  4. You aren't eating enough. If you add up those calories I bet you are only eating like 900 or 1000 calories per day. You should be eating 3 meals plus 2 snacks or 5-6 mini meals per day to take in enough calories and keep your blood sugar stable. Aren't you hungry on that amount of food? I would be starving on that.
  5. I'm not expert, but everything I have read has said that you don't really get false positives on the celiac blood tests. It's much more likely to get a false negative, especially if you have been on a low gluten diet or did a gluten free diet for a period of time. I'm not sure I trust the knowledge base and level of your doctor regarding this issue.
  6. One of the most frustrating things about this disease for me is that the symptoms mimic so many other things. The attacks that I had prediagnosis that sent me to the E.R. always seemed like a heart attack. Scary! My kids have had so many stomache viruses over the years I feel like a stomache virus expert. You sound like you are so careful and strict...
  7. Creamy thick soups scare me. Before being gluten free I always used wheat flour to thicken my soups. Unless it's a brothy soup, and even then I will ask a lot of questions, I'm going to assume they made a roux with flour and butter to thicken it. Same with gravies.
  8. It's totally pausible. There is also a condition you can get from too many probiotics called bacteremia where the probiotics become toxic because you have overpopulated your system. I'm not saying you have that at all, just sharing that even probiotics can cause you troubles. Honestly I am not a believer in self medicating with herbs. I've hurt myself...
  9. I pulled this off of WebMD. "Milk thistle is LIKELY SAFE for most adults. Milk thistle sometimes causes a laxative effect. Other less common side effects are nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, intestinal gas, bloating, fullness or pain, and loss of appetite." I got this on Licorice "The side effects associated with licorice use include water retention...
  10. I'm new to this, just 10 days into the diet. I haven't started baking yet but when I'm looking at recipes I'm confused as to why there are so many flours in recipes. I have made wheat free pancakes just using brown rice flour, etc. Is there a reason why so many flours? I'm feeling overwhelmed about baking. Also does everything have to have xanthan gum...
  11. I put chocolate chips in tonight and they turned out great. I just made sure there was plenty of dough and I formed them into cookie shapes in my hand so the chips stayed in. I forgot to say in my original post that you need to flatten the balls of dough when you put them on the cookie sheet. I was thinking about dipping them in chocolate too!
  12. Add me to the waxing and waning my entire life list. I know in my heart that I've always had this condition, but at times it would seem to go away and I would go in denial and think that it truly had gone away. After having babies, it came back and just did not go away. Not only the gastro issues, but I started having constant chronic sinus infections...
  13. It's not a diagnosis that you want to have for your child, but thank God you have answers now and she doesn't have to endure a lifetime of suffering like many of us have had. I will be going through this with my 5 year old son soon. I'm pretty sure he has it, or at least he's got intolerance that will end up as celiac eventually. I just got diagnosed...
  14. If you had a positive endoscopy I'm confused as to why they did a second one. They can come back negative if the doctor doesn't get enough samples or if they get only healthy tissue. It's not uncommon to get false negatives on bloodwork and then get a positive diagnosis from the biopsy. A positive biopsy means celiac doesn't it? Lots of docs don...
  15. If you have been gluten free or gluten light for awhile, then your results might not be accurate. I would die if I did a gluten challenge. I already ended up in ER 2 weeks ago from a gluten overload, which lead to my diagnosis. This last 2 weeks of healing have been so hard. No way will I go back and go through all of this again. Stay gluten free and...
  16. I would drop supplements for awhile too and then add one at a time and see how you feel. Do one supplement for like 4 or 5 days before you try another one. Supplements can really mess you up if you are mixing too many of them and they can have side effects just like drugs can, especially if they contain herbs. You have to be very careful with them. For instance...
  17. You might just have a stomache virus. Not everything is due to celiac. The flu symptoms, headache, achiness and D are pretty much standard for a stomache virus. If you are sure you haven't had gluten, then I would just keep hydrated and you're probably contagious if you are feverish so stay home a few days.
  18. It made one big cookie sheet full. I didn't count, but maybe a dozen or a few more. That was decent size too, not tiny. They really taste like they have flour in them. If you brought them to a party and didn't tell anyone, seriously they wouldn't be able to tell they weren't regular old peanut butter cookies.
  19. Cream of rice is very good!
  20. Thanks so much for all the info. I never knew about breathing out through the nose when I'm having anxiety. I always try to breathe in and out of my mouth and then I start to hyperventilate which isn't good. I went back to Sprouts today to force myself not to be scared of the grocery store. I am usually such an on the go person. I'm in all sorts of...
  21. I'm reading the Living Gluten Free for Dummies book and it's very helpful. These boards have been great too. The author is a not oats person, but like you said it's one of the undecided things. I have eaten gluten free oatmeal and I think it's okay, but I'm not positive because I'm only 9 days into the diet. I'm going to take it out for awhile and then...
  22. That's terrible. I'm so sorry you had a seizure. I haven't had a bone density screening yet. I also have hypothyroidism and that can cause bone loss too so I'm not looking forward to that test. Kids who get diagnosed are so blessed that they can head off all this damage early.
  23. IBS means " I don't know what's wrong so I'll hand you a line of B.S." Go with the first doctor's diagnosis and change docs ASAP!!! If your doc said you're not malnourished he knows NOTHING about this disease and he is putting you in grave danger by telling you do whatever. He should not be second guessing the other doctor's diagnosis unless there is a...
  24. I one thousand percent agree about IBS. I do not believe there is such a thing as IBS. I call it "I don't know so I'll give you a line of B.S." It's a fake diagnosis because they don't know what is really wrong and don't care to find out. After 40 years of suffering from gastric problems and many misdiagnoses including IBS, I'm very cynical (and bitter but...
  25. I'm so careful about supplements. I made myself really sick overdoing it on them one time. My doc, who was very supportive of natural medicine and actually practiced acupuncture in addition to being an M.D., said that when you start self diagnosing and giving yourself a bunch of things, not only can you be reacting to them, but they can be reacting to each...
