  1. I am a 55 year old male, and have had diagnosed osteoporosis for eight years. The malnutrition caused by celiac disease has many effects, and this is just one of them.
  2. Life is interesting in this phamily. There seems to be a phamily pheud on the in-law side. The cats did not give me anything special today. Bagheera remains inquisitive, affectionate, and phearless! He found a toy this afternoon which has a mouse on a spinner inside a partial enclosure. He keeps battting at it over and over to see if he can get it out...
  3. Annatto does not contain gluten, but some people, including some celiacs, are intolerant to it.
  4. You should be able to. From within the topic, to the left of the page navigation buttons is a blue button with an inverted black triangle. Click it and you will be asked to type a page number. The riotous phun starts at page 1700.
  5. The GI specialist who diagnosed me a decade ago said, after explaining the results, that there was nothing more he could do for me. I needed to go on the gluten-free diet. He suggested a nutritionist, but she was utterly useless when it came to celiac disease. I knew more than she did. Make your own decision. Once the diagnosis is confirmed by a biopsy...
  6. I'm not one of them, but there are quite a few members, including two of the moderators, who are not gluten-free, but have a child with celiac disease.
  7. Lipton dry onion soup mix is gluten-free. I can't speak to other brands.
  8. Can you cite an authorative source for this allegation that there is gluten as an ingredient? What, exactly, is it listed as in the ingredients list?
  9. True. Most mainstream companies won't overtly claim "gluten-free" since they don't test for possible contamination. Make your own personal decision with which you are comfortable. In general, I eat products which have no intentionally included gluten, but that are not tested for the accidental presence of gluten.
  10. Bagheera went to see our vet for the first time this afternoon. She gave him his second set of vaccinations, and loved him. He is 12 weeks old today, and weighed in at 3.4 pounds. He is currently loose in the house, and full of energy. He has tried sitting on J's computer. We have a pair of food dishes on legs so Oliver, the 14-year-old...
  11. Casein is the protein found in cow's milk.
  12. No. In fact, it is almost invariably made from corn in North America.
  13. In the United States, wheat must by law be clearly disclosed. It is one of eight major allergens covered under the Food Allergy Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) which has been in effect since January 1, 2006. Unless General Mills has recently changed their policy, Laura is right that they will not hide rye or barley.
  14. Pls see my reply to your topic in the board technical help forum here.
  15. It is the policy of this board to remove posts only if they are in violation of the board rules. Posts which contain outdated information, but which were in compliance with the rules when they were made, are still in compliance. When an old topic is revived we often post a notice that the information is old and may no longer be correct. Posts are displayed...
  16. True, that. This site has so many hits daily and so many links, that Google and other engines give it a very high ranking. (BTW, that is why we have the zero-tolerance policy for self-promotion.)
  17. Nathan's. They used to have gluten, but are now gluten-free.
  18. Well, we are four days in, and Bagheera has taken over, in a fashion. He has met all of the other cats, both here at home and at the store. They can see each other, but are physically separated, with Bagheera in a pen with the wire-mesh wall between him and others. Oliver, our 14-year-old male at home, is nonreactive. The other four, who are female, have...
  19. Any list is not 100% complete, and as formulas change, they become dated. Dextrin is usually safe, although rarely it can be derived from wheat (which would have to be declared in the US under FALCPA). M&Ms are gluten-free. I have personally checked this out, as I get free ones from Mars reps frequently (my store sells Mars products at retail).
  20. As the previous poster said, it is definitely gluten-free, but there are other reasons why you may have an adverse reaction. Adding the acetic acid from any vinegar to your digestive tract can be a challenge. Sulfites are another possibility, as mentioned.
  21. Yes, they are. Nature's Path Crispy Rice is similar, but is gluten-free and organic (and more expensive, of course).
  22. Afterthought: If alcohol denatures gluten, how come we can't drink beer?
