  1. Um, gliadin is the prolamine in wheat which we commonly call gluten. Perhaps you were thinking of Open Original Shared Link This is not to endorse that product (I don't), merely to try and clarify what the poster meant.
  2. If you are a newly diagnosed celiac, you have damaged intestines which will take time to heal. During that process, you may react to may foods that are gluten-free simply because your digestion is still compromised. Label reading is difficult at first, but becomes easy with time. Always look for the complete name of the ingredient (they are separated by...
  3. While I am not familiar with the specifics, EnteroLab offers multiples tests, only one of which is genetic.
  4. No, meat is gluten-free regardless of what was fed to the animal.
  5. Some myths just keep going and going. Thank you for posting this, David.
  6. Tis awfully quiet around here today. Perhaps everyone is busy drinking watching the "football" on telly.
  7. The debate about McDonalds fries has been ongoing here for more than four years, and I have followed it very closely. Ingredients derived from wheat and milk are used to make a flavor (in the US only). This flavor is added to oil in which the fries are partially fried at the factory, before being frozen and shipped to the stores. Once there, they are fried...
  8. From the McCormick site: So, some of their other products may contain gluten, but not the spices, herbs, or extracts. I have never found spices to contain gluten. "Seasonings" are a whole nuther ball game.
  9. This is, if I understand correctly, the total serum IGA result. This is a control which must be normal for the other test results to be valid. It says your immune system, overall, is working and producing antibodies. The other tests are for specific antibodies which indicate celiac.
  10. Yes, you can. My niece (not biological) is an example. She is gluten- and casein-intolerant, but does not have celiac disease.
  11. This is simply not true. They are not coated with anything.
  12. Olives are a tree fruit and are inherently gluten-free. They just are not on my radar. I have been on the gluten-free diet for ten years, and have never found an issue with ingredients in olives. The only vinegar to worry about is malt vinegar and I have never seen it as an ingredient in prepared olives. Olives are at their best when immersed in a mixture...
  13. Oh, feline of course. Just fine. Jacquie went to visit her friend Joanne for tea yesterday afternoon. Joanne works at a vet clinic, and she said they had kittens which were free to a good home. Jacquie asked if there were any black ones, and there were. "Do you want to go see them?" Well, Jacquie brought him home for a "trial" - Joanne would...
  14. Cider is an alcoholic beverage made from apples.
  15. DH in this context refers to Dermatitis Herpetiformis, the skin condition associated with celiac disease.
  16. You mention pb&j on "white bread." You do know that regular white bread is made from wheat flour, don't you? Time to feel a difference varies widely from person to person, but if you are still ingesting gluten, even in small amounts, it will literally take forever.
  17. Well, we survived the night, and Bagheera is still here. Our two resident females are still out of sorts.
  18. Yes, I am the closest to Em. Find your way to the 416, follow it to the 401 and head west. Fastest way is to take the 404 north and then come east on 16th Avenue. Shorter, but slower, you can get off the 401 at Kennedy Rd and come north. Then, from here, the shortest distance to almost anywhere in the States is west. Lake Ontario kind of gets in the way....
  19. This seems a bit extreme. We had a mixed kitchen for several years and everything went in the same dishwasher. If you eat gluten-free at a safe restaurant, it is a good bet that they, too, have just one dishwasher and share plates and utensils. I do agree on the colander, though--keep it separate.
  20. Kraft will not hide gluten. If a gluten-derived ingredient is present, the grain in question will be listed by name in the ingredients list.
  21. I'm not a bourbon drinker, but many here have said that Maker's Mark is gluten-free.
  22. Taking only one sample is not enough. Damage can be patchy. False negatives are common, especially when a small number of samples are taken or they are all taken very close together.
  23. Another symbol on kosher food is a P in a circle, meaning parve. Parve (neutral) foods are kosher and are neither meat nor dairy. Meat and dairy cannot be combined, but parve foods can be used in combination with either.
  24. Cats rule! Dogs drool.
