  1. Yes, they are. There will be no contamination from the hash browns. Both the fries and the hash browns are fried in dedicated fryers at the front of the store by the window crew. Everything else is done in the back by the grill crew. Nothing is going to be accidentally dropped in the wrong fryer.
  2. If it was wheat, it would have to labeled as such. Any of these ways is compliant: 1. "Modified Wheat Starch" in the ingredients list; 2. "Modified Food Starch (Wheat)" in the ingredients list; or 3. "Contains: Wheat" as a separate statement (optionally combined with other allergens). None of those appear, so it isn't wheat. It is most likely...
  3. Hey! Who is that guy Oliver is looking at?
  4. At the top (or bottom) of the page on the right, the current page count is shown. To the right of it is a triangle pointing down. Click the triangle, and a window will open where you can type in the page number to which you wish to go.
  5. We also use this mix regularly, and it smells like baking bread. Not a powerful aroma, but a pleasant one.
  6. Smirnoff is made exclusively from corn, and is available in Canada as well as in the US.
  7. Judy, I hope this comes together.
  8. Malt whiskey is usually safe, but there may be some exceptions. Scotch is made from barley which is first malted to produce the alcohol (mash), and then distilled to concentrate the alcoholic content at around 40 per cent. It is generally accepted that gluten is too heavy to survive the process and be present in the distillate. Some peptide fragments do pass...
  9. Malt vinegar is not "hidden" gluten in my view. It is gluten that will be clearly evident, because it will be labeled as "malt vinegar" and there is no doubt that it contains gluten. As Richard said, there is a lot of incorrect or outdated information out there. Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it is correct.
  10. If I recall correctly, Velveeta is gluten-free, but since it is a Kraft product, any gluten will be clearly disclosed in the ingredients. Milk and butter are inherently gluten-free.
  11. Title corrected to David Marc Fischer, as requested.
  12. No, there is NOTHING you can buy that is GUARANTEED to be safe to eat. We each make out own choices about how much risk we will accept. No company will GUARANTEE that their products are 100% gluten-free, because they all buy at least some of their ingredients from third parties, and do not test them for possible cross contamination with gluten. So there...
  13. Jess, for a constipated cat, try adding mineral oil to the food. One of our cats has chronic problems in this area, so we give her mineral oil on a daily basis.
  14. Good morning pholks, and a special message for Amanda: Happy Birthday!! :) :)
  15. In a word, yes. When you drill down to specific ingredients there are no differences between the US and Canada. The CCA has very recently updated the guide to the third edition. I am still working from the second edition.
  16. Even under FALCPA, allergen statements are voluntary. If the allergen is disclosed by its common name in the ingredients list, the label complies with FALCPA. It can be disclosed in a voluntary allergen statement as an alternative to clearly listing it in the ingredients. As an example, imagine a product contains sodium caseinate. It can be listed in the...
  17. Good morning, psillies. The basement is no longer full of garbage. I'm thinking of Max and Velcro, hoping for good things for both of them. I'll bet Jack has a great time at camp, phocused on phun stuph.
  18. It stands for Petit Basset Griffon Vend
  19. Well, it depends to a degree on what you mean by "grain." If you use the generally accepted definition of that word, then corn and rice are included, although they do not contain "gluten" in the sense that we mean by that word. I am of the school that believe that gluten does not survive the distillation process, although peptide fragments do remain...
  20. We went up to J's sister's place this afternoon and saw the new PBGV puppies. Pictures on FB for those who are interested.
  21. Wine, regardless of the type, is simply not something I worry about. There are some here who do, but I am certainly not one of them. Cheers!
  22. Hmm, missing body parts...I can join that group. My tonsils and adenoids parted company with the rest of me in 1961. Oh, wait, I guess circumcision oughta count, too.
  23. Good morning, psillies! Another phine day in Markham, with sunshine expected all afternoon. Naught else to report.
  24. Corn syrup is made from corn, and is gluten-free. There might be other ingredients to worry about, but that is not one of them. If I recall correctly, Kraft marshmallows are gluten-free. To confirm that, just read the label. Kraft will clearly disclose any gluten by name.
