ARCHIVED Gluten Free Toothpaste
psawyer replied to theemurman1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sensodyne, Colgate and Crest are all gluten-free, to the best of my knowledge. None of them, however, will offer a guarantee to that effect. -
ARCHIVED Pizza Hut Breadsticks And Marinara Sauce
psawyer replied to Becci's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
"Brewer's yeast," which will always be labeled that way, is a flavoring agent. It is spent yeast from the brewing of beer--it has been used to malt barley, thus contaminating it with gluten. Yeast itself is gluten-free. -

No, this is Caramel. She's not a really big cat, but she looks huge in the picture. the Thinkpad is 12" wide by 10" deep. She weighs about nine pounds. An unusual day here. I am at the store, but not really working. I'm just here as backup in case the newest hire needs support. Day 28 of the strike, and still no end in sight. The only thing is... -
Another thought. If you are going to northern Michigan, an even shorter route would be to take Hwy 402 from London to Sarnia and cross the border there. For some locations in southern Michigan, this may also be shorter. You don't have to go far from Detroit for this to be to your advantage; it is the shortest distance from Toronto to Dearborn, for example...

The route will take you along I-90 west from Boston to Buffalo. There isn't much at the tollway service areas that is gluten-free, so bringing food is a good idea. You will pass some large cities, including Albany and Syracuse, but I don't know what you will find there. Rochester is a significant diversion. Once you reach Buffalo, two options exist. The...

I would also add that you said a seasoned chicken breast. I would not rule out the seasoning as a gluten source either.

There are two pictures that you can have. You have uploaded the mouse as a "Personal Photo." It is visible when someone visits you profile, and a small version can be seen by clicking on your member name in a post. The one that appears under your name is your "Avatar." Click on "My Controls," then "Edit Avatar Settings" (right above "Change Personal...

ARCHIVED Cross-contact
psawyer replied to daviddius's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nope! Those labels are completely voluntary. Disclosure of shared facilities (buildings) or equipment is not required by law. The labeling laws in Canada and the US only apply to things INTENTIONALLY included in the product. And, if you ask a company to "guarantee" that a product is gluten-free, expect the answer to be "no." Every time. Every company.... -
PattyBoots, The key thing to consider in what you are feeding to a diabetic dog (or cat) is the amount of carbohydrates. Grain free foods are often touted, but many of them are high in carbohydrates--just not from grain. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, green peas and other carb sources are common in grain-free foods. A dry food should be at most 20% carbohydrates...

ARCHIVED Quinoa
psawyer replied to Diva1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It could be something in the broth. If you purchased the grain whole, it should be rinsed thoroughly prior to cooking. It has a natural coating of saponins. Quinoa sold in North America is usually rinsed as part of the packaging process. I have used water, wine, and gluten-free soy sauce for preparation. I haven't tried broth, but that might make an interesting... -

Quinoa is definitely gluten-free. I eat it with no difficulties. What form was it in, that is, how was it prepared? -
ARCHIVED Thoughts On "produced In Facility That Processes Wheat" Statement?
psawyer replied to jrappene's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A notice about shared facilities or shared equipment is voluntary. If you see the notice, fine, but just because you don't see one you cannot assume that the manufacturing facility does not, in fact, process wheat or other gluten-containing grains. Call and ask, if you are concerned. Also keep in mind that if you have gluten-containing products in your... -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Blood Test!
psawyer replied to MM5079's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are going to have a biopsy in the near future, I would recommend that you not change your diet until after the procedure. Next week is just days away. A high tTG-IgA is indicative of celiac disease, but a positive biopsy will confirm that celiac is indeed the cause. My opinion, for what it is worth, is that once the endoscopy is done, I would adopt... -

Did not do this? For shame. We did, and it was outstanding. Things may have changed a bit since we were there, but ice is still ice, and a visit to the Columbia Icefield is cool! Did you see the statue of Jasper the bear in downtown Jasper, by the railway station? -
ARCHIVED Kraft Miracle Whip
psawyer replied to Desy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Please see the highlighted word in your post. That word creates a potential legal liability. Very few companies will guarantee gluten-free, since it would create a liability for them if one of their suppliers accidentally provided a contaminated ingredient, and they did not test each and every ingredient for possible gluten contamination. Kraft is good... -
ARCHIVED Please Advise On Test Results! Confused.
psawyer replied to vlm448's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would read that as a negative as well, assuming the middle one is total serum IgA. The other two are the celiac antibody levels, and are below the reference level (negative). The total IgA is slightly elevated, which means the immune system is functioning at slightly above normal levels. A low total IgA (under 81) would mean the other two values could... -
