ARCHIVED Applebee's Restaurant - Gluten Free Menu
psawyer replied to CalicoSue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Her IP does not trace to Kansas. What is your point? Um, you have something to back up this I presume. Please share your facts to support this. Share them here, with support in the form of links to sites other than your own. -
ARCHIVED Strange Food Label
psawyer replied to tennisman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm in Canada. The Canadian Celiac Association lists "glucose syrup" as safe for us, saying, "the manufacturing process renders glucose syrups gluten-free regardless of the source of the starch." -
ARCHIVED Is Maltodextrin Safe?
psawyer replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nisey, I posted above the exact regulation regarding the ingredient "maltodextrin" as a single word, and included a link to the FDA website where the source can be verified. In the US, if just says maltodextrin, the only possible sources are corn, potato or rice. Corn is the most common. -

ARCHIVED Only Allergic To Rye?
psawyer replied to azuroo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While the autoimmune reaction in celiac disease is caused by a group of similar proteins, allergies are usually specific. It is quite possible to be allergic to one of the gluten grains, while having no difficulty with the others (as long as you don't also have celiac disease). -

ARCHIVED Gaint Brand Bacon...is It Safe?
psawyer replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Although I have seen some lists which suggest smoke flavor as a possible source of gluten, I have never found a case where it actually was. I have been on the gluten-free diet for more than eleven years. -

Maybe not the minimum wage counter clerk, but the manager ought to be somewhat more knowledgeable. Especially after six years as manager. Ya think? -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Experiences?
psawyer replied to Deniseannette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had the combined endoscopy/colonoscopy twice, and colonoscopy another time. The procedure itself is easy and painless. The purge to prepare for the colonoscopy is much worse than the procedure itself. If you are just doing the endoscopy, the colon purge is not needed--you just fast about twelve hours. -
ARCHIVED Someone Said Udi's Is The Best Bread And I Dont Like It!
psawyer replied to ScarlettsMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The stress of childbirth is often cited as the trigger to activate celiac disease. You are in the beginning of this journey. It is normal to go through a grieving process: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. We all went through the hard stages. It does get better. Soon you will focus on the things that you CAN eat instead of missing... -
ARCHIVED Is Maltodextrin Safe?

It is a nonsweet nutritive saccharide polymer that consists of D-glucose units linked primarily by [alpha]-1-4 bonds and has a dextrose equivalent (DE) of less than 20. A cat fed a vegetarian diet will slowly die from Open Original Shared Link deficiency. Cats are unable to make this essential nutrient, and must obtain it from animal sources in their diet. Dogs, like humans, can thrive on a vegetarian diet if care is taken to ensure that all needed nutrients are present.

Where is everybody? It's December 11th! Eighty years ago on this date, Canada ceased to be a part of the British Empire, and became an independent country ruled by a democratically elected Parliament comprised of Canadians. Let's celebrate!! Most Canadians are too distracted by the event of July 1, 1867, to realize that the truly... -
ARCHIVED 2012 Gluten Free Canadian Labeling Law
psawyer replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This part is already in effect, and has been for several years, as: Food and Drug Regulation B.24.018 No person shall label, package, sell or advertise a food in a manner likely to create an impression that it is gluten-free unless the food does not contain wheat, including spelt and kamut, or oats, barley, rye or triticale or any part thereof. ... -
ARCHIVED Mccain Frozen Potato Products In Canada
psawyer replied to jlee2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, read the label, and if you don't see a gluten grain listed, then it is not an intentional ingredient. Of course, contamination can occur at any point on the supply chain to any ingredient in any product, whether "shared lines" are used or not. -

Yep, I pulverized it into space dust. The thing is, this is a topic on the open board which does not appear to violate any rule. As such, there is no cause to delete it. Um, if Marilyn ASKS for it to be deleted, well, that would change thing's.

ARCHIVED Experience With Nylabone Pet Products?
psawyer replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your dog can digest the red rubber Kong? Wow! Dogs have an instinctive urge to chew. Rawhide is non-nutritive, but is usually passed through into the stool. Just like dietary fiber in our own diets. Marrow bones provide a durable chew which is not ingested. The dog will spend a lot of time extracting the digestible and nutritive marrow from inside the... -

ARCHIVED Soft Drinks
psawyer replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
rewham, once you go gluten-free, the healing process begins. It takes time. Depending on the length of time your body was being damaged, the degree of damage sustained, and your age, it can take as much as three years. During that time, your damaged digestive system may react to almost anything, whether it has gluten or not. I reacted more than once to plain... -
ARCHIVED What Do You All Think Of Quinoa?
psawyer replied to astrologer50's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many suppliers of quinoa deliver it already rinsed. Bob's Red Mill is one of them. We buy theirs. I don't know why you could not rinse the quinoa and let it dry before milling it into flour. The flour will have a distinct flavor in any case.
