  1. More info here from the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center: Open Original Shared Link Actually the other fact sheets are pretty interesting, too. Open Original Shared Link
  2. From the Bumble Bee website: Are Bumble Bee Products Gluten Free? Most of Bumble Bee's products are gluten free. To comply with government regulations, major allergens such as wheat (gluten), soy, egg, milk, tree and pine nuts, peanuts, fish, and shellfish will be called out in the ingredient list of the label. They're saying that they will list the ...
  3. Tonight I had salmon patties, potato salad and raw veggies (celery, carrots and grape tomatoes). Dark sweet cherries later.
  4. I haven't seen the new Rice Krispies yet but I have found Snyder's gluten-free pretzel sticks at my local Wal-mart...$2.50 for an 8 oz. bag. They are super crunchy though...as in "break-my-teeth crunchy".
  5. I did not experience the withdrawal a lot of folks have so while it's common, I don't think it's a given. I think I was just so happy to know what was wrong with me. And I didn't load up on gluten-free "junk" food...my diet today is much the same as it was before I went gluten-free (sans gluten, of course).
  6. What kind of cookware do you have? Some can be scrubbed clean but If it's nonstick, I'd replace it. In addition to your toaster, also buy a new colander or strainer for pasta, new wooden spoons, cutting boards, etc. I got rid of tons of old ancient Tupperware as I knew I'd never get it clean. If you can't get it clean, replace it. If you can, keep...
  7. This is a website that you may find useful: Open Original Shared Link The author is a pharmacist and the site is updated frequently.
  8. You might want to check out these fact sheets from the Univ. of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Explains a lot of the things you might want to know: Open Original Shared Link
  9. Possible books: Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green Living Gluten-Free for Dummies by Danna Korn A book I wish I had bought: The First Year: Celiac Disease and Living Gluten-Free: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed by Jules Shepard ETA: But I think you'll find this forum one of the better places to get helpful info...
  10. My daughter only had the celiac panel, which was highly positive and went gluten-free since celiac has a genetic link and the fact that I was already diagnosed. So she went gluten-free based on the lab test only (she also had a thyroid problem and is anemic). I was buying Udi's ever since my local health food store started carrying it last summer but...
  11. Yes, you can do that, not that you want to go back 5 years. You are entitled to copies of those results. I'd suggest getting all the copies having to do with testing for celiac and then in the future get copies of any tests run. ETA: I didn't realize you were in South Africa... so don't know if the same applies.
  12. Thanks for the update...I had never heard of it before. That totally sucks!!! It's bad enough that we need to read labels for foods we buy.
  13. Sorry to hear she's sick! Actually you should make it a point to pick up all copies of any tests that are run.
  14. The reference ranges vary from lab to lab so the ones you listed may not apply to the lab she used.
  15. The reference range varies from lab to lab. Can you pick up a copy of the test results? Obviously just a tTG reading is not the complete test as Raven said.
  16. Sometimes I wonder if bread will always be a mystery!
  17. One of the first things we all notice is the price of gluten-free products. When you first start the diet, you really should keep it simple and start with whole foods, not go crazy buying processed gluten-free stuff. Shop the outer rim of the store with fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc. A lot of things I eat now are things I've eaten all my life. Some...
  18. It's entirely possible that you have celiac. False negatives on either the blood test or biopsy are not uncommon. If your celiac panel came back high, I would say that's a positive...not sure why your doctor would say that's not definitive. As far as the biopsy is concerned, if damage is patchy and samples are taken in areas not damaged, it could early...
  19. My daughter has United Healthcare through my son-in-law's job and they did cover her celiac panel in Aug. 2010. How much I don't know as she obviously had to cover the co-pay. I'd definitely check to make sure the plan your dad has would cover that as I really don't know how group insurance works...coverage might vary from employer to employer. She did...
  20. YES!!! I swore I wasn't going to complain about the heat...but that was months ago.
  21. And sometimes that's nice!!! (Actually that sounds like a feast to me!)
  22. Actually I can't complain because the house is nice and comfortable. But, yeah, I like nights around 50
  23. I can't remember but I think you're prepping for the colonoscopy (or endoscopy, too)? I was so starved after the colonoscopy...in fact when the hospital called to follow up later, the girl said, "Oh, I remember you...you were the one who was starving." When you're through, go home and have a light lunch and a wonderful nap! Sending you good wishes!!...
  24. I just went out and watered my annuals. It's cooled off to about 89
