  1. I like Annalise's recipe but think I prefer Jules'. More like a "normal" pizza crust that we were used to eating prior to going gluten-free. In other words, "white flour". She is quite generous sharing a lot of recipes on her blog. And I ordered more of her flour...(sigh)
  2. I haven't seen the Udi's buns around here yet but will no doubt try them. I have made my own. I used a spring-loaded ice cream scoop to measure them and plop them into a muffin-top pan. (I did shape them slightly). Worked great using Annalise Roberts' recipe. I think you have that book, too, so for batter of that consistency, it works.
  3. Tonight I made pizza using Jules Shepard's recipe in her newest cookbook, Free For All Cooking. The recipe is also on her blog: http://blog.julesglu.../2011/02/pizza/ Cute video to watch the process, too. I was very pleased with the results. In her cookbook she suggests saut
  4. OMG! No wonder I keep trying new bread recipes!!! We can do better (not that I've ever tasted old burlap). lol
  5. False negatives are not uncommon with celiac. If the dr. is going to do an endo/biopsy, obviously you need to keep eating gluten until that's done. But if he isn't going to do any more testing, you don't need his permission to give a gluten-free diet a good strict trial. You may find your own answer.
  6. I've read about it but am not really well-versed on the E. Coli scare in Europe. Wouldn't it be safe to cook the veggies? Or buy canned or frozen veggies that have been processed long before this recent scare?
  7. Heck, if money were no object, I'd like a private jet to avoid the hassles of getting to and from the airport and not be packed like a sardine in coach (I got spoiled when my daughter was a flight attendant and I could normally get either business class or first class). When that happens, I'm sure I'll find lots of places to go.
  8. I don't buy much gluten-free packaged foods as they are ridiculously expensive. I do like gluten-free Bisquick for pancakes or Pamela's Baking & Pancake mix. I couldn't live without Pamela's and use it to make muffins, banana bread, pumpkin bread, etc. Lots of recipes on her website: Open Original Shared Link Betty Crocker gluten-free cake mixes...
  9. For me it's next to the Calendar, too. Wonder if it depends on screen resolution. ???
  10. I haven't used KA muffin mix but have read to use the tiny wild blueberries (I bought some frozen Wyman's of Maine wild blueberies at Wal-Mart). I would suggest using mini chocolate chips...or chop up the larger ones. Hopefully that will help.
  11. I agree, Loey! It's time for Tony to learn to wash his own clothes. You've been sick enough that you don't need to have that added risk. My son started doing his own laundry when he was 15. Not because of gluten, which I wasn't even that familiar with back then. Contrary to popular belief, my dryer did not eat socks...and I couldn't help that his...
  12. What you're being told by your doctors is not all that unusual. I've read it many times here on the forum. It is entirely possible that you have celiac and negative blood tests are not all that uncommon. Even negative biopsies are not that uncommon so when all testing has been done, give a gluten-free diet a good try and you may have your answer in spite...
  13. Sheesh! Nothing is sacred! We can't escape.
  14. I agree with 'shroom! Celiac knows no age and I was also much older when diagnosed. ETA: I'm not sure about the "patient" part.
  15. I don't know as I haven't used Dial for years. Even if it's not gluten, it might contain an ingredient that is irritating your skin. I find Soft Soap works well for me and I use it in my shower and at all the sinks, too. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid in the kitchen for those things that need to be hand washed.
  16. YES!!! There will be dust everywhere. Back in the 1980's we added an addition to a house we were living in. Dust flies everywhere even when a contractor is careful. A layer of dust was on everything...even in areas not even being remodeled so it was impossible to escape. Doorways were sealed off but drywall dust is as insidious as flour in the air. ...
  17. I whined, too, as I was so dreading both procedures. But what a relief to get them over with!!! I hate any invasive procedures. After my EGD, I told my GI that I was going gluten-free that day. I would suggest the same to you as you don't need to wait for the results as it takes a week or so to get the pathology reports. You may find your answer and...
  18. Some recipes also call for plain gelatin. And I saw one somewhere that called for Sure-Jell (fruit pectin). That was in addition to xanthan gum.
  19. Sam Mills pasta is good! I have no complaints. Good luck on the bread! I've sorta given up on Udi's as the last couple of loaves have been inconsistent in quality. I keep trying new recipes all the time...I think it's the challenge! At least they're mostly edible now in contrast to the bricks I baked on day one.
  20. I can buy Sam Mills pasta here at a Mennonite-type store for $1.99 a bag (that's regular price). And the bag is 16 oz. so it's the best buy I've found around here on pasta.
  21. I buy store brand.
  22. I went to my son and DIL's and brought potato salad. My son grilled hamburgers (I 'grilled' him on the state of his grill yesterday...pun intended), I brought my own hamburger bun and mayo. My DIL fixed Caprese salad (yum!), had relishes, fruit and made gluten-free Betty Crocker brownies for dessert. I got to meet their new 4-month old puppy...also brought...
  23. I used to do that when my son was a teenager and almost ate me out of house and home. It always worked to hide things behind the broccoli as I knew he'd never look in the veggie drawer. I also used to put "Do Not Touch" sticky notes on things I made to bring somewhere or had prepared in advance for tomorrow, etc.
  24. I think Nature Valley only has two that are safe - the Almond Crunch and Peanut Crunch. I like the Almond Crunch but they darn near break my teeth.
