ARCHIVED Cheetos - Ugh, Anyone Else Have A Problem With These?
sa1937 replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I eat Cheetos occasionally and haven't had a problem with them although I know some people do...guess it depends on sensitivity. For potato chips I usually buy Stax, which are labeled gluten-free. -

ARCHIVED Gave In And Called Dr For Results..................
sa1937 replied to 2johndeereboys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's always a good idea to pick up copies of your test results. To me it sure sounds like it could be celiac. Even with negative test results (and false negatives are all too common) with your GI symptoms it would warrant a referral to a GI dr. Hope you can get that appointment! -

I'd add some parsley and dill, too (if you like it) ETA: While not an herb, if you can have tomatoes, I'd plant one of them, too (they even have patio tomatoes if you don't have a lot of space). They are so prolific and nothing at the store can compare. -
ARCHIVED Question About Lactose Intolerance
sa1937 replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lactaid tablets never did much for me but I was able to use Lactaid milk right after diagnosis. In fact I still buy Lactaid milk but don't trust dairy too much even now. I have started eating more cheese and I missed it far more than I ever did gluten. -
ARCHIVED Post Positive Blood Test Asked To Go Back On Gluten
sa1937 replied to navigator's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I simply cannot fathom a dr. telling a patient to get sick just so they can have their stupid little diagnosis (and even then it's not a given)! Maybe he should eat a little bit of rat poison or arsenic to see if it spikes his antibodies. -

The roast chicken and potatoes sound really good! Do you have other food restrictions (besides the ones you mention)? Can you pick up some olive oil and some dried herbs (or plant some fresh) to get more variety which will enable you to make spaghetti sauce and things like that? Some of my favorite foods are budget friendly but that's the way I've eaten... -

I have a pot of chili in my crockpot. I'll have some tonight and the rest will be stashed in the freezer in single serving sizes for those times I absolutely do not want to cook. -
Hopefully by giving them up you'll start to feel better soon. I've yet to find processed foods to be very satisfying nor did I even before diagnosis. I tried exactly one Amy's pizza (blech). And I simply dislike the taste of artificial sweetners. Cooking isn't so bad...you can keep it simple. Meats or fish, potatoes, rice or pasta, veggies, etc....

Or possibly a blender, depending on how fine you need it. -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Buy Hazelnut Flour?

It has mixed reviews on Amazon (like everything else) and obviously is meant to grind coffee beans. But it's so cheap, I figured I had nothing to lose. -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Buy Hazelnut Flour?
sa1937 replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
While I don't know if it would work, I bought a Mr. Coffee grinder model IDS77 (larger capacity) with 3 grind settings, which I used to try and make brown rice flour finer. I don't know how fine you need it...I bought some BRM almond meal/flour and I think I could grind it like that. Is that fine enough...or do you need a true flour? I've also used a blender... -

Skylark, that sounds really good...must try that one of these days! I was hungry for a big salad so I fixed that and added sliced chicken breast tenders. Yum! Heck, I'm such a good mom that my dog even got a chicken breast tender on her dog food. -
I suspect that since you had fewer migraines when giving up Diet Coke, that it might be a major issue. That doesn't mean you may not have issues with other types of foods, but the Diet Coke definitely sends up red flags for me. Maybe you should give up the processed foods for awhile and go to a more whole foods diet to see if the other issues resolve...

ARCHIVED I Had The Old Test For Celiac Disease
sa1937 replied to Karl Otto's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the old celiac blood test...I have celiac. My daughter had the newer DGP test...she has celiac. No doubt either one of us would get an off-the-chart positive on either test today. The gene test is not diagnostic and would prove nothing to the VA. If my understanding is correct (and I think it is), compensation from the VA would be for a service... -

ARCHIVED Ingredients For Prescription Meds
sa1937 replied to ruca55's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I usually check Open Original Shared Link, which is maintained by a pharmacist and updated frequently. Ingredients are not listed, however. You could google the drug to see a list of ingredients or call the company. -

Not really although we had one a couple of weeks ago (a warning, that is). The weather nationwide has been just devastating this year. I'm on the Maryland/Pennsylvania border so it's not tornado alley. My son and DIL, who live only 5 miles from me, had hail damage the siding on their house. No hail right here. Weird weather. -

ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Gluten Free Devils Food
sa1937 replied to Elfbaby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I like gluten-free Bisquick for pancakes and have used it for a couple of other things. I've also used the cake mixes and brownie mix. If you're interested in picking up a cookbook using the cake mixes, The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten-Free is a good one. I made a Chocolate Chip Cake and Darn Good Chocolate Cake from that cookbook (both bundt cakes...
