ARCHIVED Ate A Wheat Product
luvs2eat replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After I'd been gluten-free for about a year, I chowed down on a huge hunk of delicious homemade bread and suffered NO symptoms. I actually thought I might "plan" a monthly cheat... pizza, a Subway hoagie, that homemade bread. I never ended up trying it tho. Because when I was accidentally glutened not long after that ... my symptoms became severe. Never... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Symptom For Celiacs?
luvs2eat replied to Susy13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If there's one thing I've learned here... it's that if you put 100 celiac in a room you'll have 100 different sets of symptoms! -
Ha ha... I think I'd avoid that town! Sorry, no suggestions.

ARCHIVED Eczema Or Anxiety Better Off Gluten?
luvs2eat replied to ktnhsv's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My brother (not celiac) noticed a dramatic improvement in his eczema when he simply REDUCED his gluten intake. My sister, who lives in France, has been plagued w/ eczema her whole life but as she's tested negative for celiac (blood work) she's not willing to give it up, even as an experiment. I'd be hardpressed too... their breads are the best in the world... -
ARCHIVED 2009 Thanksgiving Disasters
luvs2eat replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No big disasters this year, as opposed to last year when I made a gluten free pie crust (eggs, xanthan gum, etc) and accidentally used regular flour and spent the rest of the night trying desperately not to barf!!). I'm giving up in cornbread dressing. It came out better this year than others, but I'm just not a huge fan. I'll continue to try to use my... -
ARCHIVED Need Family Foods To Go!
luvs2eat replied to Frances03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are no gluten free breads where I live either. The only offering in the health food store is inedible and could be used as cardboard or as a bulletin board! I buy Pamela's gluten free bread mix from Amazon in a box of 6 packs. If you can coordinate your ordering (I also order my Tinykada pastas from them), shipping is free... the individual package... -
ARCHIVED High Fructose Corn Syrup/artificial Sweeteners
luvs2eat replied to mainsail1974's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never had a reaction, but avoid them anyhow. They're not good for any of us! -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tuesday
luvs2eat replied to dmurth01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Try not to be nervous about the actual test... it's a piece of cake. There's no icky prep (like w/ a colonoscopy) and they give you good sleepy meds. I remember when I was in nursing school (in the mid 70s) and they gave endoscopy patients a VALIUM before the test... and then put this big tube down the patient's throat while he/she was completely awake... -
ARCHIVED Invisible Fencing For Dogs
luvs2eat replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
LOVE me some puppies!! Congratulations!! We bought the do-it-yourself fencing from Home Depot. We didn't bury the wire, but just laid it on the ground around approximately 3 acres. A few times (in about a year), we had to search to find a break and repair it where squirrels or something chewed it. It worked really well until Peaches (the knucklehead boxer... -
ARCHIVED Anyone From Missouri?
luvs2eat replied to ohsroac's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in a teeny town near Mountain Home, Arkansas. Trips to Springfield, MO, (2 hours away) are trips to the big city for us... we always make sure to visit Chik-fil-A for french fries when we're there. I order my Pamela's bread mix and Tinyada pasta from (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned). If I can coordinate those purchases... -
ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.
luvs2eat replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My daughter asked her friend, "Please explain to me how you look at the letters A-S-K and get axed?? ha ha. I don't remember what he said in reply. Saying "I seen" rather than "I saw" makes me cringe too. -
ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.

We say that all the time! It's a "moo" point... ha ha ha. -
Wow, will my husband be glad to hear this! OG is one of his faves... altho he never gets pasta. He just eats bowl after bowl of the salad! The last time I was there, I had the mussels on their appetizer menu w/ no problems and it was delicious!

ARCHIVED Mmmm..comfort Food
luvs2eat replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've always made The Barefoot Contessa's Outrageous Brownies... you can find the recipe at Food TV. The recipe makes TONS and they're super chocolate-y and rich. There's so little flour in them (1 cup I think) that my gluten-free blend (Analise Robert's) works really well! -
ARCHIVED Progresso Soups
luvs2eat replied to celiackitcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've used it before without trouble... but NONE of my stores carry the Cream of Mushroom anymore!! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Thanksgiving
luvs2eat replied to itradehilton's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
With the best of intentions and the greatest love in the world... people who haven't been cooking gluten-free for a while will poison you. Without a doubt, I'd bring my own meal... -
ARCHIVED Green Bean Casserole
luvs2eat replied to Katester's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is the green bean casserole I'll be trying this year... I got it at Copykat.com. I'll use frozen green beans like I did the old casserole and probably Corn Chex rather than gluten-free cornflakes. GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE 2 (14 -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Thanksgiving Dinner Out
luvs2eat replied to Mom of a Celiac toddler's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The management can swear up and down that things are safe, but all it takes is one person to dip the bread stuffing spoon into the mashed potatoes to make your baby sick. I'd bring his own food, without a doubt!! -
How many years have you been trying to live a gluten-free life? 7 years How often or many times do you think you've been hit with wheat? In the beginning, when I thought I was being gluten-free, but was making tons of mistake... lots. Now... maybe once or twice a year?? Anyone been diagnosed with cancer, kidney or liver problems? Nope Have...

ARCHIVED Short And Sweet Question About Ana Panel
luvs2eat replied to chellbythesea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had an elevated ANA more than a year after Celiac diagnosis. It's a marker for Lupus and I spent 18 months seeing a rheumatologist every 6 months and having lots of blood drawn for further testing. Nothing ever showed up w/ the blood work and my visits w/ the rheumatologist were really interesting, but thankfully, never progressed to anything resembling... -
ARCHIVED How Bad Should "woops'" Make Me Feel After 2 Years gluten-free
luvs2eat replied to mamies8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The longer I've been gluten free, the more sensitive I've become. In the beginning, my "glutened" symptoms were milder... similar to my original symptoms... loud tummy and diarrhea. The more sensitive I became my "glutened" symptoms includes severe nausea and vomiting and the diarrhea and really sore tummy lasts for several days. -
ARCHIVED Big Bob's Cornbread Mix Review
luvs2eat replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My cornbread's always been gluten free and is SO easy to make!! I put a few tablespoons of oil in my small cast iron skillet that's only used for cornbread and put in the oven while it preheats to 400 -
ARCHIVED Confessions Of A Cook
luvs2eat replied to imsohungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just this past Thanksgiving, a neighbor invited a bunch of people over for dinner. She went far out of her way to accommodate me and I brought my favorite gluten free (crust) pecan pie to go w/ her pumpkin pie. Everyone enjoyed my pie but by the time I got home, I was sick as a dog!! Couldn't figure out what I'd done to poison myself!! It wasn't till a few... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Bread
luvs2eat replied to yoopergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm Pamela's greatest bread mix fan. I make it into a loaf and slice for sandwiches... or make it into 9 or 10 rolls on a Silpat ... and I've even tried the bagel variation, which was the closest I've had to a real bagel since going gluten-free.
