  1. Congrats, that is no small feat! What's your secret? Do you care to share the recipe? My bread cravings are still very strong so I'm somewhat intimidated by the prospect of getting back into baking from scratch again.
  2. Most of the papers I've read in regards to how soon the gluten free diet has it's major effect on the presence and severity of DH start at the 6-12 months mark. Keep in mind it has to do with your immune systems reaction and if left alone is quite slow to clear up. Since this is an IgA reaction additional food allergies could potentially exacerbate it as...
  3. Trader Joe's uses two different types of labeling I believe. One is Gluten Free, the other is No Gluten Added (or no gluten ingredients, something like that). Anyways the No extra gluten thing normally means it's been processed on the same equipment as gluten products so it would not be a safe product especially during your healing phase.
  4. If you increased your intake of many different vegetables you might be experiencing an allergy related to one of them that could contribute to those migraines you've mentioned. Try keeping a journal of your intake an symptoms and cycle out consumption of different genera of vegetables.
  5. OMG yes, I can actually do endurance sports again and even pet cats!
  6. Trust me whenever the trees in my yard get ripe I feast on copious amounts of mangoes and atemoyas yet anywhere else in the mainland states the tropical fruit supply is not only low in quantity but horrendously low in quality. Barring some local specialties most of the supply of available fruits comes in the form of apples and bananas. Those two alone account...
  7. Asthma is a 2 step process whereby the muscles surrounding the airways constrict and then the inside of the airways get inflammation. I've already lost my exercise induced asthma after going gluten free.
  8. Vegetables are miles and miles above fruit in terms of health. Think of fruit as the little kid's version of vegetables. There's just so many various micronutrients available in vegetables and a lot better sugar profiles. Since you're low in testosterone I'd specifically recommend loading up on cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, collard greens,...
  9. What did you replace the gluten calories with? Going gluten free is normally a pretty big change in the beginning and it's easy to reintroduce foods that you were subconsciously avoiding before. I'd think that 5 weeks would be an awfully long time to experience strong withdrawal symptoms but my knowledge of this is still quite limited in scope. Are you sure...
  10. That comment about mocking cancer patients was a good parallel. I mean, you don't laugh at someone in a wheelchair whenever you take the stairs.
  11. Easily enough, if you have records of any previous major blood work done on you then you can stick on your gluten free diet for now. Once most of your symptoms have gotten better then go in for extensive blood work again from your doctor related to concerns about your liver or w/e, not sure how things are covered up in maple land. My blood work taken after...
  12. When exactly did you start gluten free?
  13. Went dog food shopping today to try and cut out the final gluten products from my house and ended up getting severely frustrated with what these companies can get away with in their labeling. So many of the products were labeled as being "easy to digest" or "No Wheat!" and then on the third or fourth ingredient contained barley! So basically the companies...
  14. Good luck getting through it. The two times I've been glutened the problems have lasted for 3 days for simple cross contamination and 6 days from actual gluten product consumption. I'm starting to get to the point where I end up getting frustrated with certain companies for unclear labeling and end up just stop buying their products.
  15. <Got glutened by handling a dog biscuit containing wheat. The personal care products I believe are mainly just because of how easy it really is for things to wind up in our mouths without actually meaning to eat it. All vegetables are safe, eat as much of them as you wish. Gluten comes in wheat barley AND rye so basically anything with these products in...
  16. You mention you were gluten free for a period before and then went back on gluten for the test. Going back on gluten should have given you all the info you needed at that point. After 2.5 weeks of being gluten free I ate a few tablespoons of wheat flour and had a horrible mass of symptoms come back to me for the next few days. I lost 5 pounds over the 24...
  17. Lunges may seem like a lame exercise move but they are severely effective. If you need something more "hip" try out some beginning yoga. Yoga classes are great for building up a very strong foundation of muscle support and flexibility.
  18. I would probably not recommend this as the official slogan for a gluten-free-dating site. I thought about this all last time I was at Whole Foods in the gluten-free isle, tried chatting it up with a girl I thought would also be gluten-free, turns out she was just slightly lost...
  19. Thanks for the replies everyone, I was still unsure about whether I should cancel the biopsy or not (vehemently abhor unnecessary medical procedures as well as the price that accompanies them) and so on monday while waiting for the doctor to call me back I decided to double check one last time and ate a tablespoon or so of AP flour. I considered going out...
  20. I'm about to reach the 3 week mark of my gluten-free life and right around the time when my mind finally started clearing up I noticed my libido sky-rocket. It's the sort of surge in hormones where you just feel the need to punch a hole in a wall but instead drop and do pushups or some other manly thing to use up some of that excess energy. I also find myself...
  21. holy crap, dude you're in! If she wanted to automatically friend zone you then she wouldn't have sent the photo. In dating attitude>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>...
  22. Certainly not a cure. Considering the effects of celiacs extends far beyond just simple intestinal damage any pill would have to attack gluten itself.
  23. You most certainly can be born with it, I'm not too sure about developing it later in life though. I think it's more of just a question of how long it takes your body to start responding with some noticeable symptoms. Personally I exhibited symptoms of it at least as far back as grade 4ish.
  24. I went gluten free about 2.5 weeks ago and went to see a gastroenterologist two days ago. He drew blood work and scheduled me for a biopsy considering all of the drastic changes in symptoms I was exhibiting due to my gluten free diet. He did ask me if I really needed the biopsy for any reason as with how I'm doing on this diet there would be no real reason...
  25. Every time I would see a doctor about problems I would have I would get referred to a psychologist or a psychiatrist (yay modern medicine!). At a young age I was diagnosed at the same time as my brother as having severe ADD. I was always a "shy" child and by the time I went off to college I was finally diagnosed with severe social anxiety disorder with frequent...
