  1. Last I read paper I read on that subject, altered small intestine bacterial populations are almost guaranteed, statistically speaking, in celiacs. At least that doesn't sound like a stopping point for your doctor.
  2. You are still early on in the diet so there's still definitely much room to improve. You are starting to gain back some energy, so what are you doing with it? Have you increased your physical activity? Some times the best way to feel more energetic is to get out there and burn some energy. Go for a run, a long walk, try a yoga or martial arts class, get a...
  3. The best bet is to treat it before you eat something with gluten. Consumption of regular probiotics, either in capsule or from something like yogurt/kefir/real sauerkraut/kimchi, actually decreases the permeability of your intestinal lining which is the opposite of what gluten does to it. As long as I'm regularly taking probiotics, whenever I get glutened...
  4. Almost all Hormel meat products are gluten-free. When I drove across the country, their chicken packs were my primary source of protein! As mentioned above all boars head meats and cheeses are gluten-free as well however they may be sliced in your deli right after that same piece of equipment was used to slice an unsafe meat product. A great deal of "gourmet...
  5. Back during my gluten days there were times that my anxiety would totally get the best of me I would become completely isolated from the world. Pretty much no communication with anyone due to all of the negative irrational thoughts going through my head. This sometimes would go on for months at a time with me avoiding answering the phone calls of friends...
  6. Endangered Species Chocolate bars are both gluten-free and super awesome.
  7. Not at all out of thin air. Both of those products, black currant oil and primrose oil, are antifungal in nature (ie: antiyeast) and pretty much all antifungal compounds are good for hair growth. Tea Tree oil, green tea, grape seed extract, clove, cumin, turmeric, coconut oil, coal tar, ketaconazole, all of these have been shown in different studies to have...
  8. Only quit the dairy if you think you might be having a specific issue with it. I merely mentioned it as an aside about how difficult it can be to pin all of this stuff down. Since then however I've tried testing it and believe it may have just been an issue with the increased sugar consumption that was accompanying the increased dairy consumption. Considering...
  9. I've been gut-nuked by a few of trader joe's shared-facility items before. I still shop there because, hey at least they make an effort to let you know about all the possible cross-contamination, but I can't buy anything that they say might have been made near wheat. Their pistachios (which I'm eating right now actually) are safe!
  10. I wonder if it's easier for some groups than others, WseekingM, MseekingW, MseekingM etc. I have certainly met men before who have joked about never calling a girl back before because she was a picky eater on their date. I can only assume this sort of attitude isn't completely monopolized by the straight male demographic. Alternatively I've dated plenty of...
  11. Not sure about those specific places of irritation, but I know that before going gluten free I would get frequent yeast infections in my hands and feet (athlete's foot/candida). This would not have a rash, would just itch an insane amount like there was something just beneath my skin that I couldn't see and endless scratching only produced minimal relief...
  12. The issues that cause autoimmune conditions cause stress, not the other way around. After about 2 months I had noticeable improvement in my scalp's inflammation on the gluten-free diet. Unfortunately after a recent increase in dairy products (what that's not healthy either?!?!?) I had another flare up of inflammation. While not long term by any means,...
  13. Heck, I think the only shocking part of the story is that you've managed to keep her from slipping up until now this early since the diagnosis. Most people have quite a few slip ups in the beginning and even later on. It's just so easy to accidentally get contaminated that everyone ends up developing their own way of coping with the occasional glutenings...
  14. Changes such as these can occur without any sort of change in interference from food intolerance related issues. As you change your diet in any form your body gets used to obtaining energy from new sources. Because of this change of sources of energy and nourishment your mind makes different associations of what to tell you is a favorable (tastes good, causes...
  15. Your fears are unneeded. It is true that if you do not have a preexisting problem with gluten that the gluten-free diet will not cause one to show up. Basically you go gluten-free for a while and then "test" it by eating a bit/bunch of gluten. If you have reactions or unfavorable changes then you need to stay gluten-free, if not then enjoy a loaf of sourdough...
  16. Bob's website says they're looking and to check craigslist for the posting, but I check that site frequently in this area (I'm in Portland) and haven't seen their ad lately. Bob's does do gluteny as well as gluten-free stuff and as far as I know that location is mixed (even though I think they keep the work areas seperate). On the bright side, if you do contact...
  17. Eat a big soft pretzel for all of us.
  18. It's about as accurate as testing yourself for malaria by just taking your temperature. You might notice something funky, but it's certainly can't pinpoint anything. There are tests your doctor can do that check for candida overgrowth through stool samples.
  19. Woah, woah woah... If you look closer you'll find a very large amount of people on here who have little to no respect either for the biopsy test. Really, the best test is how you feel while on gluten vs off gluten.
  20. I tried posting a link to the site and got this message on my link "The (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are Banned) test". Instead I removed the link since it doesn't look like the best idea to link to them. Reading up about it, the most I could find was a whole bunch of unpublished papers that they were citing as proof that their method...
  21. I've recently gotten into using the safety razor instead of those annoying cartridge razors (10x better shave at 1/10 the cost). Anyways I've also swapped over to shaving soaps instead of shaving creams but the only shaving soap I can get my hands on contains oats and all the other ones I find online don't give me much information. Does anyone happen to...
  22. The healing process takes a while and so normal weight gain can be quite difficult for some in the first couple of months. I'm at the 7 mo mark and am just not finally starting to put on weight that sticks. Do it right though and worry more about the quality of the food you're putting in your body instead of the quantity. As mentioned above your body is quite...
  23. IBS is not a condition, it is simply a medical label for "bowel problems" because you wouldn't pay a doctor for a diagnosis of "someones got an upset tummy". Your gut issues do not sound minor, best of luck with a new doctor. Bloating for me was kind of all around but mostly relegated to the lower sections while the pain is normally pronounced near my...
  24. Going gluten free can remove the cause of the anxiety and depression but it can't magically erase all the damage that's been done by years of negative thought patterns and irrational ideas. While you will physically get better and there will no longer be a constant switch into the "dark tones" the structure that you've built up over the sick years can take...
  25. Pacific Foods makes some great stuff, now if only they would accept my application one of these days.
