  1. The normal limits for most tests are actually a bit below what optimal levels are for humans, unfortunately deficiency is the norm in our population. Positive growth in hair can take a while after going gluten-free as there's a huge long list of stuff your body needs to correct before you get back to proper functionality and in the meantime your hair is nothing...
  2. They seem to be really good with mentioning shared equipments on the ingredients label. After having been glutened a few times from their share equipment/no gluten ingredients potato chips I don't go near the stuff on shared equipment. Luckily there's plenty of stuff that isn't made on shared equipment at Trader Joes. If you eat legumes then try out the cilantro...
  3. Non-fish based sources of vitamin D include liver, poultry egg yolks and pasture fed animal fats. None of them are really strong sources (most normally just provide about 15-18 IU/ serving) so you'll still need supplementation but they help add to the overall total when used on a daily basis. Just be sure when looking for Vit-D supplements that you're not...
  4. Actually those are classic symptoms of celiac disease!
  5. Although the above "evidence" doesn't really seem to support the hypothesis, something to think about: Most cosmetics/grooming products contain chemicals which deliberately make your skin more permeable! They do this so the products can more deeply affect the skin but this also means that all of the (mostly carcinogenic) random chemicals in the mixture are...
  6. 1. Male 2. 29 3. 8 months 4. At least 2 others with a few additional suspected members 5. As far as reach of the disease I had it affecting almost every single organ in my body. The physical symptoms were pretty heavy and had required hospitalization on a few occasions but the mental effects were quite larger and resulted in many many years of counseling...
  7. Technically the gluten proteins are not volatile components so no they would not vaporize and make you sick. However, smelling a substance that your body now recognizes as having made you sick can easily set off somatoform reactions while your brain prepares for an incoming glutening. The only way around such reactions are habituation through repeated exposures...
  8. I'm starting to notice the same thing happening to me! Unfortunately I just moved from South Florida up to Oregon to get away from the heat! Now I guess I actually have to bundle up for the winter instead of previous snow days walking around in a tshirt. Anyways positive effects: 1. Fantastically defined midsection 2. Luscious sheen to hair 3. Can exercise...
  9. If you're in the Portland area be sure to check out the Wednesday or Saturday night feasts at her facilities. Everything on the menu is always gluten-free and dairy-free with a vegan option available on request.
  10. Open Original Shared Link A nice professional article discussing various ingredients used commercially, how they affect your gut and immune system.
  11. Surimi is not always made with wheat but often is. It is definitely something to be avoided.
  12. That is actually the official medical definition of a syndrome. It is nothing more than the grouping of symptoms to which the doctor is not aware of the cause of yet. It's use as a diagnosis is pretty much the hallmark of a lazy/irresponsible doctor. They're basically having you come in, tell them your symptoms and then charging you for the honor of them...
  13. The most useful test in all of medicine: -Does it hurt if you do this? -yes -Ok, don't do that. You say you tested IgG positive for wheat a number of years ago, do you know specifically what protein they were testing? I could easily see back then the doctor just describing a gluten test as a wheat test. Fantastic move on the part of switching the...
  14. There's a reasonable amount of dog foods out there that are gluten-free. Dogs can get celiac disease as well (seeing as how most mammals shouldn't be consuming it) and it's apparently quite common in certain breeds. Be extra suspicious of brands that use "wheat-free" claims as they most often times replace the wheat with barley, look for brands labeled specifically...
  15. Yoga helps stimulate your lymphatic system which helps speed up the removal of toxins from your system. Additionally since you've probably upset your intestines a bit, a probiotic of sorts may help. Try to stick with things that are easy on the digestive system.
  16. I don't think you can really call it being "glutened" Since your account is somewhat new to the forums I'm guessing (perhaps inaccurately) that you've only just recently made the switch to gluten free in the past few months. During the first couple of months it's almost impossible to tell what has really gotten you and what's just your body adjusting or your...
  17. Almost nothing should look the same going out as it went in (except for pennies, why are you eating pennies, oh no wait that's my dog who does that). I don't think the fructose malabsorption would specifically explain why you can't have raw apples but have no problems from cooked apples. For bananas is it the same in regards to cooked/uncooked? If you...
  18. Taking poll at 4:01 AM: ___ Have gotten relief from sleeping problems. _X_ Have not gotten relief from sleeping problems. That one kinda answered itself.
  19. I use jarro-dophillus. There's nothing special about it but is satisfies all of the requirements I look for: -Says gluten-free on label (if supplement manufacturers aren't willing to make it easy for me to not poison myself they aren't getting my money) -Is refrigerated (increases survival rates of the living bacteria) -Contains both Lactobacillus acidophilus...
  20. Well one potentially beneficial aspect of kelp is it's often high in omega-3s which technically would reduce inflammation.
  21. A soft pretzel the size of a small car with some mustard.
  22. Check the plethora of links on the main page (www.celiac.com), look at the linked articles on the publications section of the forums, look for local support groups (more springing up every day!), prepare to freak out a whole bunch. Really the freaking out is normal, happens all the time considering the sheer amount of knowledge you have to acquire to get...
  23. Finally ate at a Whole Bowl last week. Great little deal on a simple meal and turns out it's gluten free! While I'm at it, does anyone in town know of a good place to buy fresh/frozen seaweed? Been trying to find some non-soaked-in-soysauce seaweed and no place I've gone to has it, couldn't even find it at Fubon.
  24. Nystatin, like all internal anti-fungals, is prescription only in the states. Fungal cells operate in much the same way mammalian cells work. Because of this, most drugs that have anti-fungal effects can have severely detrimental effects on your body cells as well. Topical anti-fungals generally aren't something to worry about as systemic absorption is normally...
  25. First thing we need to get out of the way since it seems like you're interested in learning at least the basics of medicine and health: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS IBS DISEASE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS IBS TEST. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS IBS CURE. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS IBS. IBS is a what doctors say when they have no idea what's going on with you...
