  1. Four months this weekend.
  2. I bought one of those and ate half last Wednesday (and I was pissed off because I'd meant to grab the one with dairy cheese and didn't realize my mistake until I got home). I'd been CC'd at a restaurant earlier that day and was already feeling lousy. If there's a bad batch of those pizzas out there, that explains why I had the worst gluten migraine yet for...

    ARCHIVED Day 1

Could definitely be the vitamin. I don't take multi-vits for that reason. I've found that I can take B-complex, D, and calcium/magnesium supplements daily without problems. I tried adding in Vit E to the mix and had to stop because it always sets me off (and it's a gluten-free supplement, I checked). You probably need the nutrients, but maybe cut back to...
  4. You know, I used to have the brain fog constantly, but now I don't notice it as much when I take an accidental hit. I think that for me it was a cumulative effect. A small hit is enough to pull up the more physical symptoms but doesn't take down the whole brain with it. I wonder about the carb hunger. I remember being hungry ALL the time pre-gluten-free,...
  5. Probably. You might just need to give your gut time to heal. Sadly it doesn't happen overnight (I wish it had!); it took a while and a lot of damage to get to this point so it will take time to go back. I couldn't tolerate any dairy, even stuff that was essentially lactose-free (butter, hard cheese) for a couple of months after going gluten-free. Ditto for...

    ARCHIVED Day 1

I haven't tried the milk but the coconut milk yogurt by that brand is IMO the best dairy-free yogurt out there. Good stuff.
  7. I have to go to work regardless. I'm a grad student and we really only take sick days when we either have a high fever or are vomiting. I took an accidental/CC hit on Wednesday at lunch. I've been making it through the rest of the week doped up on Tylenol (ibuprofen makes the heartburn worse). It blunts the migraine to a dull ache. I can work through a dull...

    ARCHIVED Day 1

The "big batch cooking" idea is so great for lunches. I make a crock-pot of beans every Monday, refry them with onions/peppers/spices when I get home, and then we eat them with rice for dinner that night and I'll have them for at least two lunches that week (happily beans don't make me gassy- maybe my Mexican ancestry?). I almost always take dinner leftovers...
  9. Usually about a week for the worst of it to go (multi-day migraine and multi-day GI problems).
  10. You know, I don't so much have cravings for specific foods so much as a longing to walk into a restaurant and order whatever I want without thinking about it. Although the prospect of never again being able to order fries in a restaurant is deeply disheartening. I love fries.
  11. What a nice boss!
  12. I wouldn't file, either. I can't really see a positive outcome from it. I'm in a grad program that provides a lot of free food to us, including free lunch at weekly seminars. The lunches are either pizza or sandwiches, with available sides of pretzels and cookies. I have monthly meetings for my research fellowship program. The catered dinners are almost...
  13. True. And the Lundberg ones are much better than the ones I remember from my mom's 80s fad diet days. Those ones were just like styrofoam packing material. The Lundberg ones seem crunchier and more substantial.
  14. If you don't like them, don't eat them.
  15. As far as I know, Lundberg doesn't process any gluten ingredients in their facility. Their products are all rice-based. I love their rice cakes, especially the apple-cinnamon and wild rice flavors. Very yummy with peanut butter.
  16. Yep. If he eats these daily, that might be the problem. I wonder what else he's eating that might be problematic. For example, I don't eat Campbell's soups and had no idea that none of them were gluten-free until my mom put a can in one of her recipes and we had to play detective to find out what made me sick. Also, if he's changed any brands of foods that...
  17. Please, if you have children, do not ever leave them alone with this woman. She can't be trusted to keep them safe. Sad, but true. We spend about $100 on food per week. However, we eat out at most once every other week because it's no longer fun for me and because I've had bad reactions enough times. So I figure $100 for two people (and we eat well- lots...
  18. This might only be a temporary thing. I know there were a lot of foods that gave me problems prior to going gluten-free. Dairy was one of them (along with cabbage, broccoli, bell peppers, alcohol- all of which I can eat with no problems now). I haven't had Enterolab testing done, but before I went gluten-free, it got to the point where I couldn't eat...
  19. I think it depends on how dusty the food is. If a cloud of food dust comes out when you open the bag, you're going to inhale that and some of it's going to end up in your gut. If it's not dusty or if you're feeding wet food, then you probably don't need to worry beyond washing your hands well afterward. An interesting aside: we have two cats who are on...
  20. The Amy's pizza I bought had dairy cheese, not soy. Of course, that only works if you're also not allergic to dairy... I wonder if Amy's makes a gluten-free pizza without any cheese at all. I think their regular pizza crust is available without cheese.
  21. You know, if someone did that to me on purpose, I think I'd empty the salt or pepper shaker onto their food. If they've deliberately made it so that I can't eat my food, then they don't get to eat theirs, either. Yes, it's probably immature, but it would get the point across.
  22. I've tried Amy's and Glutino. I thought the Amy's was pretty decent, and I think it was cheaper than the Glutino.
  23. I'm from Michigan (home of Kellogg's). None of those cereals are safe for us. Malt flavoring is from barley, which is off-limits. Wheat starch is still from wheat. Off-limits. Stick with the certified gluten-free rice and corn Chex.
  24. It's true. It takes about 3 minutes to microwave a bowl of gluten-free oats, and about 5 minutes to fry an egg and spread peanut butter on a couple of rice cakes (two of my standard weekday breakfasts- I'm a grad student with a 30 mile commute to school each morning). I think it would take more time for me to pull off the road and buy breakfast than it does...
  25. Ha, that sounds familiar. Wed. night my husband suggested that I go and eat a bunch of high-lactose food to get things moving. I actually seriously considered it before realizing that if it didn't work, I would end up in even more pain and bloated up like a goodyear blimp. Yep, also sounds familiar. Why in this country does "fiber" automatically...
