HAHA I love ALL of you! Yes, I am indeed, ALIVE AND KICKING! I think she finally got the point that if I keep getting sick around her, MY son will not see her. At all. My husband and I cooked all weekend to introduce her to gluten-free cooking, and she even went to Publix with me to get ingredients! We were coloring outside with the baby (sidewalk chalk...

So most of you know the trouble I have encountered with my MiL and the gluten-free/Celiac thing. We are going to their house this weekend and she called today...to tell me that she bought gluten-free bread and bagels for me. I almost fell out of my chair. A woman who asked if it was "my time of the month" because I was balled up on the floor from a glutening...

ARCHIVED Your Most Mortifying Bodily Function Story
K8ling replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My hope is that my next pregnancy will be VERY different (and MUCH better) since I know what I can't eat now. I want to enjoy the next pregnancy, not just lay around on my bathmat -
ARCHIVED Got Glutened But Can't Figure Out From What
K8ling replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In my gluten-free food guide it says that Ortega shells can be cc'd. They do have procedures in place to stop CC but there is no guarantee. I'm sorry you got glutened!! -
ARCHIVED Your Most Mortifying Bodily Function Story
K8ling replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love all of you for having the guts to post. I have been VERY very upset over this in the past...I was raised in a very buttoned up family and OH MY no one ever talks about things like this. It makes me feel better about me being a human with celiac lol. Also, it took having my son in front of my husband to finally get me to the point where I can allow... -
ARCHIVED Your Most Mortifying Bodily Function Story
K8ling replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to flee a spouse social because I had "the waterfall". Also, had to wait out a doctors appointment with a specialist that had taken MONTHS to get. I stayed in the bathroom and my husband wrangled the toddler. It was very bad. The doctor was an ear nose throat specialist, not the type that would have understood. That was about a week before my bloodwork... -
He IS but the fact is, he doesn't need to fight my battles for me. I am a full grown woman, and while I need to have him in my corner, and on my side, and next to me when I am having the discussion about Gluten, I don't need him to fight the battle for me. She's going to have to deal with me quite a bit since he deploys, so she may as well do it now as well...

Again, 1) can't afford a hotel (no, really, we can't at all) and 2) I am trying to NOT burn bridges until I have to. I need to be diplomatic about this. It's only for 3 days, so it won't be NEARLY as bad as the beach was. But I am fully prepared for a fight. Luckily my husband has my back.

O.o LAAAME guy. Luckily, my husband didn't have any high school girlfriends...he played baseball but he was a NERD. Big time. I was lil miss popular and married the quiet guy. Crazy how things work out!!

ARCHIVED I Cannot Take It Anymore!
K8ling replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry you are feeling so alone. I can relate with the cooking thing, I am SO SICK of having to cook EVERYTHING that I eat. I also wish I would go to the beach and not worry about cooking/eating. I want to just taste what people are cooking. I want to not have pain killers in my purse ALL the time, or anti nausea, or a heating pad within reach. I... -
Thank you SO much for the link! Husband just pointed out that because she is a biology teacher she's probably thinking she's "almost" a doctor (haha RIGHT). And yes, Almendra, he told me flat out "You're so foxy though! You gotta be my arm candy!" haha aww what a sweet guy.

ARCHIVED What To Eat After Getting Sick?
K8ling replied to mareahf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For toast i use Kinnikinik or Udi's. And the peppermint tea thing? Awesome! It always helps me feel better. I have been living off of toast lately, and probably will until I am better. -
ARCHIVED Bread!
K8ling replied to bluebonnet's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
UDIS UDIS UDIS!! I buy a case at a time! Requires NO toasting and makes awesome sandwiches! Even my toddler eats it -
You know, I do have to say, my house has NEVER been cleaner since being diagnosed. (silver lining silver lining silver lining!!!) Also, are there any good gluten-free hamburger buns? That last post made me want a cheeseburger BAD!!!

ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Body Temperature Regulation?
K8ling replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HAHA it looks like we are a community of space heaters. -
Thanks for all the input and support, guys. I talked with husband last night, and he totally has my back (he called his mom "Glutenzilla"). He said that I could do whatever I needed to and he would have my back. The catch is, we can't stay at a hotel. Not going to happen. SO I am going to take my tinfoil and make my own food and occupy the baby during their...

HAHA it was trying to get the point through my thick skull I think. Yes, I agree with the non perishable foods thing. Also, we have already paid for tickets and it's a big deal to my husband I guess. My mom tried to plan my grandfathers memorial that weekend and Hubs begged her to change it. I REALLY don't want to go back and be around them yet but I am...

ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Body Temperature Regulation?
K8ling replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me too! I break out in a cold sweat and drench the sheets. My husband likes to say "You got the FEVAH baby!" to make me smile when I feel terrible. -
Ok The Beach is over, but the next trip to the inlaws is in 2 weeks. I need to have a plan of action for food. Is there a way to be forceful but still nice? Is there a book I could buy for my MiL so maybe she can understand a little better? I don't have time on this next trip to be sick the whole time, it is my husbands high school reunion and he desperately...

This is exactly what I was trying to tell people this past week and everyone looked at me like I was crazy! The ice was touched by people eating Wheat Thins (aka "Death In A Box") and everyone looked at me like I was stupid when I asked for the first ice out of the ice bag before anyone else could touch it! I am EXTREMELY reluctant to let other people cook...

hahahaha genius. I like it.

I too had to kick people with Glutenous food out of my house. I tell everyone they are welcome to eat it outside but my kitchen has to be a safe zone. I AM a nazi about it but only out of necessity. Inconvenient? yes. Necessary evil? also yes. I was surprised that all my friends totall understood though, and now if my husband wants something I can't eat...

I am going to go ahead and say it was CC. This happened to me a number of times this past week, especially with inlaws who insisted that the grate was safe (it wasnt). FEEL BETTER!!!
-
I just realized I wasn't exactly clear with that.. hang on let me try this again: Ondansetron (Zofran) is an anti nausea. Loritabs are pain pills. I take both of them when I get hit. Sorry, was typing with a 2 year old on my lap lol. My gross part is about 5 hours of laying around on the bathmat balled up, or in a HOT bath. Then I spend the next few...

ARCHIVED What To Eat After Getting Sick?
K8ling replied to mareahf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do Old College Inn chicken broth, plain. Then some toast. Then I add a few gluten-free noodles if I feel up to it. Then I move on up to tea and fruit juice. and then I add a plain baked chicken breast and brown rice (I also adhere to the BRAT diet when I am recovering). I hope you feel better soon!!
