  1. A board certified doctor can pretty much officially diagnose based on gut feeling. He will probably enter diagnostic code ICD-10-CM K90.0, mention the anti-gliadin IgA, which is a positive celiac test even if it's a bit out of date, and your extreme reactions to gluten.

  12. That's great! You got the formal diagnosis you were looking for! I'm glad your doctor came around. Doctors are trained not to diagnose unless they're certain, but that doesn't always work out very well with celiac because it can be hard to catch with diagnostic tests.

  18. Nope, it's not in your head. As well as Gluten-free Mall there are lots of lunch foods that are naturally gluten-free. Nuts, fresh or dried fruit, hard boiled eggs, and sliced vegetables are in my lunch bag most days. Cheese and yogurt are good too if you tolerate dairy, and most lunch meat is gluten-free.   20. The celiac test here is endomysial and it's negative. However, it's only positive in about 70% of celiacs. Your high total IgA can indicate autoimmunity but it's not really a celiac test.   22. Sometimes I would fail the anemia test. When I did donate, I still found it very draining. After I almost passed out after one donation the Red Cross suggested I stop because it was harder on me than they preferred to see.

  24. They're not characteristic but celiac can cause all sorts of crazy stuff. Give the diet more time. You have to get rid of the autoimmune antibodies, then your intestine has to heal. Complete recovery can actually take years if there is a lot of damage. Symptoms usually improve at least to some degree after a couple months on the diet.
