Talk to your Dr. about whether it could be optical migraine. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing And Tissue Typing
Skylark replied to Motherbird7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing my brother so young. The genetic testing is sort of a moot point. We don't have all the celiac genes defined out very well (HLA-DQ is clearly not the whole story), and having a first-degree relative with celiac is a much stronger "genetic test" than anything you could get at a lab. I'm glad to... -
First, if your Dr. suspects type 1 diabetes you NEED to get your daughter tested. You are trying to ignore a disorder that can easily land her in the hospital and possibly kill her. Run, don't walk to the clinic. I have a friend whose daughter developed type 1 at age 13. It came on fast and she went into a diabetic coma and almost died. She was in the...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
Skylark replied to jnh380's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The water is NOT muddied. You have high TTG and villous damage. That's celiac disease, 100% without question. Gold-standard blood and positive biopsy. There are people on this board who would give thousands of dollars for unambiguous test results like yours. You need to get over your reverence of a dude in a white coat with a stethoscope. Remember that... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Negative...but Not By Much...
Skylark replied to Momto2girls's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is no possible way to distinguish between a true rise in her TTG and statistical noise within the "negative" range of the test. I would ask her doctor to run the more sensitive deamidated gliadin IgA and IgG. -
ARCHIVED Question About Digestive Enzymes.
Skylark replied to Girl From Indy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So it helped but you still got CC'd on occasion? I'm just trying to understand what the GlutenEase limitations are. I hope your cruise was fun! Dr Wise's stuff is homeopathic, right? -
To my way of thinking you are nowhere near processed-lite. You listed a couple different gluten-free breads, curry mix, rice pasta, sausage, fake cheese, chips, almond milk, and ice cream. These all have the potential for CC, plus additives you could be reacting to. If you have gotten so sensitive you got hit by fumes (ugh, I feel bad for you!) I agree...

ARCHIVED Question About Digestive Enzymes.
Skylark replied to Girl From Indy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have not seen anything in the US that I would bother to purchase for mitigating trace gluten CC. There are some very nice general digestive enzyme supplements. I use Source Naturals Essential Enzymes when I eat a heavy or rich meal. I've seen Enzymedica Digest Gold mentioned a lot. Also your husband needs to get his thyroid checked. A lot of celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Interesting New Research On Corn
Skylark replied to Skylark's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Aren't corn chips usually made with lime-treated corn? Lime treatment may change the corn enough that your body sees it differently. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
Skylark replied to jnh380's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is there some specific reason you need a formal diagnosis? Otherwise it may not be worth the bother of a second opinion. You obviously need to get the biopsy report (and if you are in the US you are entitled to it by law) but it seems your GI is in the stone ages as far as celiac diagnosis. -
Waitaminute.. I was promised that the subatomic nano-particle crystal pendant I bought from Wylde & Crazee would protect me from pixie dust. I followed their directions exactly. It took me forever to find a fairy ring in an oak forest to bury it for a lunar cycle. Are you saying I'm still suffering from pixie exposure?

Huh? I'm sorry but this instructor doesn't know what s/he is talking about. There are no chemicals used in coffee processing. Go look it up yourself! The bean has the fruit either naturally fermented or scrubbed off, it is dried, the hull mechanically removed, it's sometimes aged, and then it is roasted. If you are concerned about pesticides or decaf...

I didn't gluten challenge either. You could try remedies like ginger tea, and probiotics can't hurt. -
ARCHIVED Help With Possible Dairy Intolerance
Skylark replied to kaki-clam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
No need to dig up links. I've read 20 things all different too. It's looking up butyric acid on Pubmed and seeing good things that convinced me ghee/butterfat is a good fat (in moderation of course). I also think there is a lot of wisdom accumulated in the 5,000 years of ayurveda and they hold ghee in very high regard for its healing properties. I... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
Skylark replied to jnh380's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good, I'm glad you are happy to have a diagnosis. I never know what to say with the positive tests. Some people are relieved but others are really upset about the celiac disease. All the foods you listed are available gluten-free. You can make good coffee cake from gluten-free Bisquik. Open Original Shared Link I've heard the Against... -
ARCHIVED Help With Possible Dairy Intolerance
Skylark replied to kaki-clam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've seen info that the butyric acid and other short-chain fatty acids found in butter and ghee are anti-inflammatory. I don't think ghee would be included in the animal fat/inflammation link. It's just good stuff all around! The long-chain saturated fatty acids, especially stearic acid in grain-fed beef, are definitely an issue for inflammation. -
Very rarely, flavored coffee has barley malt in the "natural flavorings". If you like the flavored coffees it's best to write the manufacturer and ask. I know Peet's brand is safe. Plain unflavored coffee is naturally gluten-free.

ARCHIVED "wheat-Free" Oats
Skylark replied to Mateto's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hard to know what it means. If I were you I'd write the manufacturer. Bob's Red Mill has gluten-free oats if that brand is available in your country. -
I am sorry coffee makes you sick. Nobody is questioning your coffee intolerance or trying to tell you to drink it! We are trying to make sure that people don't get paranoid because a crazy blogger posted a putative cross-reaction between gluten and coffee. Rumors on gluten spread like wildfire and then people start avoiding crazy stuff like teabags.

ARCHIVED Help With Possible Dairy Intolerance
Skylark replied to kaki-clam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I asked this question recently on a food intolerance message board I'm on. Almost everybody who is dairy-sensitive, even people who are extremely sensitive, can tolerate ghee. It has a rich butter flavor and it's great for sauteeing. You can find it at Indian food stores or make your own from unsalted butter. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results
Skylark replied to jnh380's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It means there are patches of partial villous damage. You have celiac disease. This is always sort of a good news/bad news thing. The diet is tricky but you should feel a lot better on it! -
This is possibly the most sensible post in this whole thread.

ARCHIVED Which Probiotics
Skylark replied to JustNana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Can you please provide more information? GHT lists 30 ppm casein in Threelac and Fivelac but there is no suggestion that there would be gluten. Edited to add: Ack. I just wrote GHT (the manufacturer) and got a super-fast response. Thank you for your email. The Threelac and Fivelac do contain a small amount of gluten. The Threelac contains less... -
What does the phrase "pollute the liver" mean? And how did your instructor explain how tea, which is comparably chemically complex plus very high in fluoride and salicylates, is somehow magically better than coffee? And what about other chemically complex antioxidant foods like red wine, chocolate, or blueberries. Do those "pollute the liver"? Sorry...
