  1. Some people "get it". Others are utterly hopeless. I hope you are lucky enough to find some friends who do understand it's a big deal and can support you. If not, we're here for you.
  2. Good luck! I hope you get a clear answer.
  3. You probably have celiac disease. Your Dr. has likely seen numbers up over 50 and even over 100 so he's saying you're "mildly positive", but that is clearly a positive test. It's difficult to get a false positive TTG test so chances are very good that you're celiac. I assume you didn't go through with the celiac biopsy because of your pregnancy? If...
  4. Lactose is made at the tips of your villi. That may well be your issue. Probiotics and enzymes are not the same thing and I don't think I've ever seen a combination product. The probiotic provides helpful bacteria. You take enzymes with your food and they help supplement your natural digestive enzymes when your digestive system isn't working quite...
  5. Yeah, I'm kind of over the specialty diet thing. I'm just avoiding the things I know get me. Migraine triggers and too many beans/grains. I'm kind of beat down because nothing is really working and I can't figure out why my good days are good or my bad days are bad.
  6. Tylenol is fine. If the pain is from gas, eliminating lactose would be good, or you could try low-FODMAP. I find Pepto-bismol helpful sometimes but for me it's more stomachache/nausea. It's best to get off dairy completely to see if it's going to help. How would you pick up a casein sensitivity if you only eliminate lactose? You can challenge casein...
  7. I felt better in some ways, worse in others. Lectins don't seem to be very good for me and I was eating a lot of beans, lentils, and permitted grains. On top of that, soy milk was the only "safe" milk I could find for my coffee and soy and cruciferous veggies (cabbage, brussels sprouts) are hard on thyroid patients. What a mess. I'm still getting over...
  8. Fresh peeled pears are OK too. Sue Dengate says amines are the slowest to clear, taking 3-4 weeks in some people. That's why the loooooong elimination.
  9. Read this. Open Original Shared Link Have you gone truly gluten-free? It can take weeks to months for your system to recover and it requires a proper gluten-free diet with no cheating. Not only avoiding breads, mini-wheats, and whatnot, but all forms of gluten including wheat in soy sauce, thickeners in soups, sauces, and stews, processed foods with...
  10. Poor kiddo. Pepto Bismol helps me a lot with gluten reactions. I'm sorry to hear that she didn't get away with it but not terribly surprised. I hope she feels better soon.
  11. Hi and welcome. Your daughter needs to be evaluated by a doctor for celiac disease because she has a lot of the symptoms. Celiac disease is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune condition that requires a strict lifelong gluten-free diet. It is very important get testing for celiac BEFORE you take her gluten-free because the tests do not work once someone...
  12. Failsafe messed me up bad with all the lectins. On the bright side, it helped me figure out that I do better low-amine, particularly tyramine. The elimination phase goes for a month at least. From everything I've heard from people successful with the diet it can take considerably longer and you have to be as strict as we are with gluten-free. A week...
  13. They are different types of antibodies. Your son doesn't make enough IgA for the tests to be valid, whether or not the doctor decides to diagnose him as IgA deficient. That means he needs the IgG version of the test.
  14. What shroomie said. He needs TTG-IgG and EMA-IgG. He needs to continue eating wheat for valid testing so you might want to call and see if they can arrange the labs sooner.
  15. Not that I've ever heard of. Sounds like an awful reaction though. At least Splenda is easier to avoid than gluten!
  16. Don't take either if they are giving you trouble. There is an additive-free medical probiotic called VSL#3. It's pricey so I'm making my bottle last by taking it every few days and it seems OK. Why you are having finding gluten-free plain yogurt? All the Yoplait containers I've picked up are marked gluten-free, and there are a bunch of Greek yogurts...
  17. That's wonderful news! I'm so glad she is growing.
  18. Interesting. Labs sometimes re-evaluate the range they have defined as "normal", or I guess it's possible they discovered some sort of systematic error. You are super-lucky that your result was positive and it led you to go off gluten. I'm really glad to hear that you are starting to feel better. Maybe that little miracle you're hoping for will be around...
  19. That's funny. Cashews are the easiest for me to handle because they are low in tyramine. Isn't it interesting how different we all are?
  20. Wow. At least I can tolerate soy though I avoid it becasue of my thyroid.
  21. All celiac tests are usually negative with non-celiac gluten intolerance, and it is not limited to people with DQ2 or DQ8. With the intolerance, symptoms can be quite extreme too. I'd suggest going gluten-free, particularly since bread is causing you such pain.
  22. I still don't think you are understanding the issue here. If you don't get a food you're testing for sensitivity 100% out of your diet and you happen to be sensitive to low amounts, you will completely miss the opportunity to feel better. Isn't your health worth you and your wife going to a little effort for a few weeks for a truly dairy-free trial? By...
  23. He offered to let you pick the restaurant. I'm not sure why you are turning this into a problem by not picking one.
  24. A million? Hell yeah. I could make good use of a million dollars after I felt better a few days later. Gluten makes me fell ill. Eating it won't kill me. Now I wouldn't test my anaphylactic medication allergy for a million dollars...

    ARCHIVED "Don

Actually I find the published scientific evidence for dairy cross-reactivity very credible. The rest... not so much.
