Elimination is free. That's a fair price, though. It's good that your naturopath is not charging something crazy. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out because it's super-helpful to hear your experiences.

Nope. Armour has confirmed their pills are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link

Those are expensive and I don't think they are reliable enough to pay for out-of-pocket. A lot of naturopaths charge outrageous prices for those panels, taking a cut of your money themselves. I've seen posts from board members who got charged anywhere from $500-$2000 for a $250 test. Doing an elimination diet is a much more reliable way to find out what...

My doctor also had a gluten-sensitive patient who reacted to pills so the US pills must not be so clean. He was a little surprised, but open-minded enough to start telling me and his other celiac/gluten intolerant patients to check meds and switch to naturally gluten-free foods with no eating out if they are feeling ill.

ARCHIVED Healing Neurotoxicity

Eat healthy fats. Egg yolks, flax seed, nuts, olive oil, oily fish, maybe even lecithin from a health food store. Your nervous system needs fat to build myelin and recover. Omega-3 fats can be great for anxiety and limit omega-6 fats to try to get down to 2:1 omega-6:omega-3. Too much omega-6 causes inflammation and most Americans get crazy amounts of... -

Glad you found the info useful. I tried Quaker oats before I knew about CC in oats and gradually got sick. I have no idea how much gluten CC was in that particular can. I don't think I'd do well on 80 ppm oats for an extended period though. Yes, that Tricia Thompson study on grains was alarming. It made me wonder whether some companies are cleaning... -
ARCHIVED Could Positive Serologies Be Anything Other Than Celiac?

Whole foods is a great way to go! I always tell people it's easy to tell that a banana or an orange is gluten-free, and they even come with a handy built-in protective wrapper. If you're in the US, FALCPA requires that anything that contains starch, protein, etc. derived from wheat must have the world "wheat" on the label. It can either be in parenthesis... -

Makes sense. Feel free to ask for help with the diet and I hope you get to feeling better on it! -
I've been worried since someone reacted to a generic levothyroxine and confirmed the gluten with a home gluten test kit. Pills may be cleaner where you are.

ARCHIVED Do Celiacs Have To Avoid All Grains?
Skylark replied to quincy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The gluten-free society guy is just trying to scare people into giving him money. Simple common sense applies here. If you feel better off grains, avoid 'em. If you feel fine eating grains don't worry about them because you're not doing celiac damage. -
I think I would have lied and said I was anaphylactic, just to get him to take it seriously. Am I bad?

Celiac panels ARE covered by insurance. You should be able to get at least at TTG test through your campus health service. They can also do thyroid testing for you, which I think is really important. If you go on the diet and it helps you will always wonder about celiac and the only way to find out is to re-poison yourself. Get the test now, while it... -

Skylark replied to mom2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi and welcome to the board. TTG is an autoimmune antibody. It is most commonly caused by celiac (90% of the time) but it can also show up in inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and less commonly in other autoimmune diseases like autoimmune liver or thyroid disease. With the growth problems and lack of obvious gastro issues it's most likely... -
ARCHIVED Trying Candida/scd Type Diet

I found it helpful to make coconut flour and almond flour baked goods. They are filling and give you something to substitute when the starch cravings hit. A lot of people make the mistake of shying away from fat when they go low-carb. You will want some nuts, cheese, or avocado to feel full, though for weight loss you do have to limit them a little. -

Your GI is being ultra-conservative, as doctors sometimes are. Endomysial is 99% specific for celiac. With the positive TTG there really isn't much question. Did you get your biopsy scheduled? -

I would call them and ask. I agree that total IgA would have been nice because it's hard to interpret anti-EMA without. -
Not really. You can burn healthy fats as fuel. Most people on paleo do eat fruit and vegetables that contain some carbs like winter squash. Paleo is not ketogenic like Atkins, but it is much lower in carbs than a typical American diet.

Wow, I could have written almost your post exactly when my autoimmune thyroid disease flared two years ago. Memory problems, severe concentration problems, dizzy, heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, tired, depressed, I also gained weight. On top of that I had developed a dairy sensitivity that was really adding to the fog and fatigue. Has anyone done a... -

Tums tablets are gluten-free. When you have nothing in the house remember that you can take a little baking soda. Arm and Hammer has directions on the box. -

You need to find out whether this is the old anti-gliadin test, which is notoriously lacking in sensitivity, or the new deamidated gliadin peptide. It's odd that they didn't run TTG but Endomysial has pretty similar sensitivity. -
ARCHIVED Steel Cut Oats And "gluten Free" Products
Skylark replied to Rat's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Low, yes. Safe for celiacs? Not even remotely. Tricia Thompson bought 12 cans of supermarket steel-cut and rolled oats. Out of her 12 random cans of oats across three brands, only three were < 20 ppm, and one tested as high as 1800 ppm gluten. Open Original Shared Link The problem is that most farms grow both wheat and oats, and they crop rotate... -
ARCHIVED According To Recent Data, Gluten-Free Doesn't Seem To Be Enough
Skylark replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah. I don't do autoimmunity halfway. I was running low-grade fevers from the inflammation and I even had some hyperthyroid symptoms for a bit. I am getting nice results as far as adrenal support with panax ginseng. A low-lectin diet with plenty of omega 3 seems to help the inflammation. I still feel sort of ill though and am plagued by cognitive... -
ARCHIVED May Have Just Eaten Gluten :p
Skylark replied to Victoria6102's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't panic. I've eaten shared lines chips without any problem at all. You're probably feeling worse from freaking out than you would from a tiny trace of gluten and it's unlikely there is any gluten at all. Relax, have a nice, soothing cup of tea and don't worry.
