  7. Yes, low IgG would create the same accuracy issues. If you have half the total antibodies, a test will have half the total signal in the ELISA. Cutting the signal in half could make a low positive into a negative pretty easily.
  8. As long as you didn't get glutened it's all good. It's frustrating when you run across people who don't "get it" but at least this chef is interested in gluten-free and humble enough to ask you. I see that as a good thing! I hope you took the opportunity to educate him and make some recipe suggestions.
  9. You are more likely gluten intolerant, though as Nora says a negative genetic test does not rule out celiac. Dr. Fasano at University of Maryland says gluten-intolerant people can actually have stronger reactions to gluten than celiacs.

  13. My parents went to separate rooms because they like about 10-degrees different temperatures at night and dad coughs a lot from allergies. They are both much happier. It's hard to have a happy and affectionate marriage when you're walking around sleep-deprived.
  14. Rice and starchy gluten-free breads are hard on me in that respect. Even if I eat white rice without enough fat and protein I bottom out so badly I fall asleep a couple hours after the meal.   15. Wait a second. If he has a firm celiac diagnosis he must be off not only wheat but all forms of gluten for life. He will not gain weight eating wheat.   18. Trace gluten aside, you can't go wrong with whole natural foods for healing. A lot of us feel our best eating mostly meat/fish/poultry and veggies.   20. I just want to underscore what Karen said. Six weeks is nowhere near long enough to expect improvement. Refractory is usually only considered if celiac antibodies aren't falling after a year or so. People with celiac often have vitamin deficiencies that keep us from feeling better.   21. Yes, looks like that to me too. We've had a few people whose GI doctors told them that food allergies, particularly milk, could cause villous blunting. I haven't found it in the literature but more than one person has posted that. Sometimes practicing doctors see things that don't make it to the literature.
  22. That's pretty common among GI doctors. The biopsy has been the "gold standard" for so long that they are continuing to do them. You know she needs to be off gluten, which is the important thing.
