ARCHIVED Help with IgA
Skylark replied to Jeffb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome to the board. You're sure in the right place. TTG is an autoimmune test, most commonly caused by celiac. It can also be caused by inflammatory bowel diseases so your Dr. will usually tell you to keep eating gluten (celiac testing does NOT work gluten-free) and send you to a GI. If you can't get to a specialist quickly, you might be able... -
ARCHIVED Super Picky Eater Who Eats Almost Nothing But Gluten
Skylark replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You do need to get her off the gluten ASAP. She needs to be absorbing nutrition to grow well. grilled cheese - make with Rudi's or Udi's bread cheese quesadillas - see if she will eat them with corn tortillas plain pasta - Tinkyada rice pasta, Thai rice noodles, plenty of other brands of gluten-free pasta to try plain egg noodles - I haven't... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Symptoms Return After Years Of Feeling Well
Skylark replied to BornTooSoon's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I use it in low-carb breads and baked goods mostly. Spectrum Naturals also makes a refined coconut oil that's suitable for sauteeing that I was using when I wasn't sure about whether I could tolerate ghee. I also use canned cream of coconut in my coffee because I like better than any of the nut or soy milks. I haven't tried any of the MCT products. -
Honey is your main sweetener on SCD and you don't want to be eating gobs of it. What I found though was that sweetened foods started to taste VERY sweet once I got rid of refined sugar and went low-starch. I'd make coconut flour banana muffins and the sweetness from an overripe banana was almost overwhelming, with no added honey at all. I can't wait...

ARCHIVED Fructose Malabsorption Worsening
Skylark replied to Austin Guy's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Unfortunately, chances are good that you've always had fructose malabsorption and that getting away from your intolerances has unmasked the symptoms. Some of the people in the fructmal group think that gut dysbiosis plays a role in the development of FM and in the symptoms and severity. I'd be inclined to start on some good probiotics. Some people say Fructosin... -
ARCHIVED Can Gluten Cause Impulsive Behavior?
Skylark replied to Golden Girl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Seizures can originate anywhere in the brain. A neurologist can use EEG monitoring to identify the most likely seizure focus. Frontal lobe damage or seizures that start or spread to the frontal lobe are very well known to cause poor impulse control. I'm sorry to hear your son's injuries are causing him such trouble. -
Yes, it would.
-
So you got nothing for Mom. Well, she's been gluten free a while, her stomach is settled down, and the fructose malabsorption is no different.
-
That makes sense. I wonder about the sourdough study. You might glance at that one. I think they were testing with R5 elisa.

ARCHIVED High Ana & Plastic Surgery Regrets
Skylark replied to abaker521's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Me and my D cup could have told you life isn't much different with boobs. Plus mine are gonna sag to my belly button in another 20 years! Homogenous is the most common false positive ANA test. You definitely need to get it redone! -
My mom did that with me and my brother. We always had to taste anything she cooked. She would not force us to eat a meal of food we hated but the one bite was a requirement. Sure enough, something that tasted bad at first eventually tasted OK. As an adult I eat just about any normal food short of calves liver. I never could get used to that stuff!

ARCHIVED Can Gluten Cause Impulsive Behavior?
Skylark replied to Golden Girl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry to hear about your son. You must be very upset. Seizures can cause impulsive behavior. So can gluten. There are some links between gluten and ADHD, and in a few people gluten causes seizures. There is no guarantee gluten is the source of trouble given the rest of his medical history and alcoholism, but I agree it's worth considering. People... -
Where did you get this idea? Is there something with some scientific evidence I can show my mom, who has had FM for most of her life? She's become pretty expert on it and has never run across any evidence that fructmal is reversible but she would love to be able to tolerate more fructose. (And I am not talking about HFI.)

ARCHIVED Frustrated And Alarmed About Weight Gain
Skylark replied to Coolclimates's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This works for me too. If I eat carbs and sweets I crave more and I overeat. They make me tired too. It's hard to overeat veggies. -
Sure sounds like fructose intolerance to me. You might find the folks in the Yahoo fructose malabsorption group helpful. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Here's What We Got (Blood Test Results)
Skylark replied to youwillrise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, dairy gives a lot of us issues. I seem to tolerate a little butter but that's about it. You need to make your decision about asking for a biopsy before you go gluten-free. If you are gluten-free for a while any damage will go away. You'll always wonder about a negative biopsy if you go gluten-free before the test. It is OK to decide not to... -
It doesn't really explain reactions. None of us eats foods with hydrolyzed gluten like soy sauce or beer. Most hydrolyzed vegetable protein in the US not wheat, and if it's wheat it's declared as such on the label because allergic people still react. This test may pick up traces of gluten in distilled foods like whiskey and vinegar but I'd be surprised...

ARCHIVED Red Dye # 40?
Skylark replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I react to MSG too if there is a lot of it in a food. Natural MSG in things like miso gets me. I also react to tyramine that's in red wine, aged cheese, and chicken livers, and aged/fermented foods. If you suspect food chemicals this info might help. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Red Dye # 40?
Skylark replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Red 40 is gluten-free. It's made from coal tar or petrochemicals. (Eww, gross.) It isn't terribly uncommon to be either sensitive or allergic to it. Unfortunately a lot of people with celiac disease have a reaction and assume the reaction is to gluten. They hop on this board or on their blog and next thing you know there are crazy rumors about gluten... -
I totally sympathize! I'm really glad to hear the wine helped. Red wine is the complete wrong thing to drink for me. Funny how different we all are. I know that balance thing you are speaking of. I feel it as dizziness but not vertigo. I've been clutching walls and doorways for months now to steady myself and fallen twice. This week it's been much...

Wow, your dietician doesn't have a foggy clue about picky little kids, does she? My nephew's list isn't much longer than Ethan's. He'd rather go hungry than eat something that tastes funny to him. If I were you, I would not lose my mind about certification. It's good that your dietician understands that not all celiacs tolerate traces of gluten, but...

ARCHIVED High Ana & Plastic Surgery Regrets
Skylark replied to abaker521's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I really hope you get this sorted out and get to feeling better. It's great to hear that your doctor is supportive. I think getting ANA retested is a great idea. I don't know where Gemini's info comes from but the association with ANA and celiac is not very strong. Here is a study showing what I mean. Open Original Shared Link There are false positive... -
ARCHIVED Friends Purposely Glutening Me!
Skylark replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad to hear your trip went well. Your friends, and I use the word loosely, don't understand that even if you don't have an obvious reaction to gluten there is autoimmune damage being done. Remember that true friends are the ones who respect what you say. A real friend will go to great lengths to make sure you have safe food, even if eating gluten... -
ARCHIVED Here's What We Got (Blood Test Results)
Skylark replied to youwillrise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, negative. You could still be gluten intolerant or even have a false negative celiac panel. Is your Dr. considering an endoscopy/biopsy with an iron deficiency that severe? H. pylori infection is also starting to be associated with celiac. I do take probiotics during a round of antibiotics, and I've had doctors tell me to do it. Live culture yogurt...
