  1. Your mother sounds like a real piece of work. I don't know how you are going to convince her to do something so "expensive and inconvenient" as buy real food instead of convenience food. Is there a possibility you could borrow enough money on a student loan that you can buy some safe food to supplement what your parents buy? I'm not talking about ...
  2. It sounds to me like there is gluten in your diet. Did you start eating anything different in the last 3-4 months, change roommates so there is gluten in the kitchen, get a pet that's eating gluten food, or start eating out frequently at a new place?
  3. Hi and welcome. Let me be sure you understand. You were tested and diagnosed celiac, and you have been on the gluten-free diet for two weeks? If so, you just need to give it time. Two weeks is not enough to heal celiac damage. It may take a few months for things to settle down. Remember all the antibodies have to go away and then you have to rebuild...
  4. In the US wheat in all forms must be disclosed and major manufacturers are also disclosing barley and rye. I don't understand why you would write this? I do see a lot of recalls of food that is mislabeled and contains an allergen on the FDA website. Is that what you're talking about? Or are you so sensitive that CC from wheat lines running in the same...
  5. Oops! I'm really glad to hear you didn't get sick. You can empty a can of soda and pour in a gluten-free beer like Redbridge to make your chicken.
  6. The warning about spices is because a lot of spice, herb, or seasoning mixes sold for meats have flour in them to help the meat brown or keep seasonings from clumping. The flour will be clearly declared on the label.
  7. I have NEVER seen wheat-derived lecithin and I've been reading labels for seven years.
  8. By the way, if you have nothing to try, see if a strong cup of coffee and your favorite painkiller helps. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor and is in many migraine medicines. Excedrin Migraine is tylenol, aspirin, and caffeine.
  9. Doctors are good with migraines. They see them all the time. Didn't your Dr. give you anything to try? If you have no meds I bet you want to cry. Ugh. Call your GP's office, get an appointment, and see if they can call in a migraine medicine. I put what I'm trying for prevention in my first post above. My Dr. told me to give the Migrelief a month and...
  10. Are you taking probiotics are you worried about them suspecting SIBO? I would be more inclined to suspect that too many of the helpful bacteria are dying off than SIBO, since you went downhill on antibiotics. I also wonder if you could have a sensitivity to one of the antibiotics. There is an expensive but strong medical probiotic called VSL#3 that doesn...
  11. No, it cannot improve. You're fine, really. This kind of test always has some background noise that keeps it from being 0, which is why the normal range allows up to 0.7.
  12. Everyone's migraines are different. My neurologist and doctor told me that they can cause just about anything as far as weird neurological signs. I have heard of the pins & needles thing and visual disturbances are really common. I can get a funny metallic taste, ears ringing, trouble focusing my eyes, light sensitivity, a general feeling of malaise...
  13. Olive oil forms free radicals like any other unsaturated vegetable oil when it's heated. Cold-pressed virgin olive oil has some natural antioxidants that keep it from forming free radicals as long as it's not heated.
  14. That's great news!
  15. Good luck! You are welcome for the help. I pay the board back for recipes and tips on gluten-free goodies by helping out with testing. I'm a scientist. I do hope you aren't celiac and just gluten intolerant but you need to know for sure. And I'm really sorry you are miserable on the gluten. Did you find a way to get celiac panel blood test...
  16. I'm very glad to hear you are feeling a little better. Don't ever hesitate to call those hotlines if you need them. They will take you seriously. Gluten messes with my mind horribly. Sounds like it gets you too! I was diagnosed bipolar before I went gluten-free. Turns out it was my mind reacting to gluten and some vitamin deficiencies. If I'm in a...
  17. I've gotten into that "too full" habit myself. Fortunately I never gained more than 10 or 15 lb. It hits when I'm depressed and hypothyroid and I deal with hypo- weight gain plus comfort eating. It's almost impossible to eat less all at once but not so hard to gently ease your portions back down to reasonable sizes.
  18. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. You're not breaking any forum rules talking about suicide. If you are still thinking of it, especially if you have a plan of how you may carry it out, please stop reading now, pick up the phone, and call a hotline. The people on the hotlines are trained counselors, not difficult family members, and they have...
  19. A celiac panel is a series of blood tests consisting of anti-endomysial IgA, anti-TTG IgA, and gliadin peptide IgG and IgA, plus total IgA to make sure the tests are valid. If you are not getting those blood tests done, you are not getting tested for celiac. There is no other way to diagnose celiac that has been scientifically demonstrated to be reliable...
  20. I am having huge issues with migraines with a classic aura if that's what you mean. The aura lasts maybe 20 minutes and I get weird stuff in my vision. Jagged lines and bright patches. Then the migraine starts. To help prevent them, my Dr. started me on a product called Migrelief which is high-dose riboflavin, magnesium, and feverfew. We're hoping it...
  21. You're welcome. It's negative and great news. The normal TTG means the diet is working your celiac antibodies are gone.
  22. Hi and welcome. It sounds like you have stretched your stomach by eating to the limit all the time. As far as I know the only way to handle it is to do what you're doing, break the bad habit of eating to the limit. All the tricks you have, water before meals, bigger portions of low-cal veggies, extra fiber, hot tea after meals, are all helpful. I...
  23. I would eat that spaghetti sauce and not worry at all. I eat Safeway brand foods all the time with no issues. It is illegal to hide wheat in "natural flavors" or "spices". The ingredient of concern in "natural flavors" is barley malt, but malt is very expensive and is usually listed separately on the label because it's a luxury ingredient. Malt would...
  24. I do OK with bananas that have black spots so they're less starchy and small, occasional servings of rice. I really hope you can tolerate some starch if it's important to you. If you prefer food lists I'd go with the SCD lists at Open Original Shared Link and skip the book. It kind of depends on whether you are going to take the plunge and do GAPS...
  25. I don't understand your "Anti IgA". What does the lab slip say? It should be anti-something and it's probably a celiac test that is down to the normal range. Total IgA should be normal, not zero. It just means your immune system is functioning properly. What did your doctor tell you?
