  1. I couldn't believe this about the Pro-Health mouthwash, so I too called P&G just now. Holy fazoli, it's true! Gluten contamination is the case! Suddenly all my out-of-the-blue joint pain and constipation that's cropped up in the past month makes sense - that's when I started using this garbage. Hey at least they're sending me a reimbursement check...
  2. I haven't been tested for this. Interesting... how does one get tested?
  3. Yeah see I agree - I don't think I have an issue with fructose. Most days I eat 2-3 apples, plus 8-12 ounces of unfiltered apple juice, without issue. Apple has been my main source of carbs. I've never tried juicing, that might be something to look into. Due to a latex allergy I have to avoid all tropical fruits, so that might be difficult. And I'm interested...
  4. I have gone a few days without carrots, and it hasn't made any difference it seems. And if I stay on just those foods I feel pretty awesome. I wanted to tell you too - you were who suggested I give up the white potatoes I was clinging so hard to a few months back. Well I gave those up, as well as peas. And guess what? Within a few weeks, the chest...
  5. It's called the Intestinal Rehab Program. It's at a transplant center in Nebraska.
  6. I really don't understand what the program entails, just that I'll be working with a whole team of specialists to try to get answers, versus the one-doctor route I've been going so far. This program specializes in people who have a whole variety of intestinal disorders or injuries/transplants. I have to assume that these people, if anyone, will know what...
  7. So I've been gluten free for 13 months now. I've reacted to more and more foods as I go along, and at this point I'm back down to 7 foods plus a few spices. I was up to 9 foods, but the 2 I gained (rice and strawberries) proved to be failures after all. I'M GOING CRAZY on this diet. I've been at or near this level of restriction for almost 6 months now...
  8. If you look at my signature you'll see that I'm extremely limited. I was having a lot of trouble getting enough carbs and calories. Even with eating fruit and sweet potatoes all day, I can only eat so much before I'm getting too much fiber, which was a problem for me (40 grams a day is not good when you're only getting 1200 calories!). I ended up finding...
  9. The only kind I've been able to find that is free of all the things that make me sick is Enzymedica Pro-Bio. It's pretty spendy by my standards, but I feel much better when taking this stuff.
  10. Rice is a big problem for me. After 6 months of being grain-free, I decided to try adding rice back into my diet a few weeks ago. I was fine for the first 2 days, but then I got very uncomfortable guts/bloating/gas, my stools became very narrow and I got really constipated (I eat at least 30g of fiber a day so it's not that!), and my body started to ache...
  11. I've been unable to find any soy-free gum (oil and lecithin get me too). I'd never heard of Glee Gum, but I looked it up and it's got other stuff I can't handle. I really miss gum!
  12. I react to topical gluten! I was at the salon last summer and had a cut and style. On the way home I started itching and burning, and discovered an angry red rash, but only on my left arm and left calf. It made no sense... until I realized that my left arm and left calf were exposed when my stylist was spraying hairspray on me. I liked the hairspray so...
  13. So I'm going to go ahead and assume that my grand plans for planting a straw bale garden this spring are ill-conceived? (This is where you plant your veggies into a layer of dirt on top of and into the sides of straw bales to maximize your garden space.) I don't know why I never asked "what exactly IS straw?", but I'm totally crestfallen here!
  14. Wonderful news about your dietitian and your workouts! How exciting and what a relief for you! I hope rice continues to be okay and that those rice cakes work out for you. :)

I'm doing alright, just struggling with colon pain and major intestinal issues. I'm scheduling a colonoscopy to see about ulcerative colitis or IBD. I'm worried gluten/etc may not be the issue here...

  15. Hi there! I just wanted to apologize for my obnoxiously long post on the forum. No need to read or respond. :) I hope things are going better for you! Take care!

  16. Well, since I wrote this post I have successfully added rice into my diet. I NEVER thought I'd get that back, but it's allowed me to bump my daily calories to 1500-1600! And my carb intake, which was previously very low, is now in a healthy range and I feel so much better. My list of safe foods is: chicken, beef, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, blueberries...
  17. Sausage has given me trouble too, even when all the ingredients seemed safe. I learned that autolyzed and/or hydrolyzed yeast extract are both fancy names for MSG, so check for those. It was my sausage troubles that helped me realize I can't tolerate *any* lemon, paprika, honey, or maple syrup... The only brand of sausages I can tolerate is Applegate Farms...
  18. Just wanted to wish you good luck when I saw you were down to 7 foods there. That was me about 7 months ago - I've added a few foods now, but now many. I don't know if any recipes/experiences I had would help, but you're welcome to email me (it's on my profile) if you'd like to talk or share. It's hard sometimes, finding someone who understands what it's like to be t...

  19. I couldn't love this post more. THANK YOU for the links to those articles; this explains so much and gives me so much hope!!
  20. Yeah 1300 total calories is about as high as I can get. I'm at a very healthy weight now and the fact that more is dropping off is very worrying to me. I still feel really good during/after my workouts, but the rest of the day I'm tired and cranky. Maybe I'll just tone down the intensity until my diet is healthier. And pray my tests go well this week...
  21. I have no advice for you; I just wanted to say that I'm in the exact same boat. Like you, I've been happy to lose weight and for the first time in my life I'm at a very healthy weight. But new intolerances keep cropping up. At this point I'm down to 7 safe foods and weight is rapidly dropping off of me. I'm quite nervous about it. My doctor is too so...
  22. Working out and being physical is important to me and I've been doing this since high school (I'm 31 now). I've tried to lose weight all my life, and have only been successfully losing since diagnosis and going gluten free. I've lost 40 pounds in the past 12 months, which is a dream come true for me. The problem now, however, is that my diet is extremely...
  23. Alright. GFinDC, I took your advice and cut out potatoes. WOW. I was immediately constantly starving and veerrrrry tired. It felt like gluten withdrawal! I took this to mean that I was addicted, and thus cutting it out was a good thing. In the 5 days since I've cut it out, I've dropped 3 pounds and (TMI warning), my stools are finally normal. For the...
  24. This is great info. I would love to have that link. Thank you!
