  1. Alright, I'm calming down now. I can't thank each of you enough for your input and ideas. On the enzymes - are pancreatic enzymes and digestive enzymes the same thing? Any suggestions for brands/presentations? Can L-glutamine be added in with most any supplements (I'm on quite a few)? To answer another poster, our home is gluten free, including...
  2. I do take a probiotic daily. I've not yet tried any enzymes though. And oh my gosh, give up potatoes?! I dunno, as long as I eat exactly what is on my list (which admittedly includes a LOT of Kettle brand potato chips - no gluten or corn!) I do great. It's only when I deviate at all that I get sick.
  3. I should also mention, part of her concern was the fact that I've lost 40 pounds in this year, without trying to lose them. (I had it to spare so I've been pretty pleased about that, but I'm now at a great weight and continue to lose.) I'm sure it's got a lot to do with what I CAN eat - chicken, turkey, beef, yams, potatoes, carrots, peas, apples, blueberries...
  4. So I went to a new GI doctor today, and for the first time since this began I saw someone who knows more about Celiac than I do. Yay! The dr. who diagnosed me never gave me any information besides "looks like you're a Celiac" and on another visit "you had a LOT of damage", so at this new dr. we went over all the records that were sent. She was shocked...
  5. I have PCOS and it has absolutely responded to my going gluten free. I now have a normal cycle (they used to average 45-60 days long), my facial hair has decreased a lot, and I'm finally able to lose weight. No matter what I did before I couldn't lose weight - both a hallmark of PCOS and of being malnourished (and thus constantly hungry) from Celiac. That...
  6. Everyday Minerals!
  7. I've lost 35 pounds so far and am still losing. My whole adult life I've been a size 16/18. No matter what I did and how physically fit I've been, I could not lose weight and I was hungry all the time. When I finally got diagnosed and my gut started to heal enough to absorb nutrients, that hunger started going away and I naturally ate less. And now my...
  8. Oh, thank you for your sympathy. It's great to be able to vent to people who get it. Nobody in my real life does, and that makes it even harder. I had a friend over this weekend who looked at my list of foods and said "Oh that's not bad at all! That's a lot of food - you can do all kinds of stuff with that!" I said that that's literally ALL I GET. For...
  9. This is the question burning in my mind 24/7. If you look at my signature, you'll see that I'm extremely restricted. If I'm even CC'd by one of my no-no foods I pay for it, sometimes for days. I've been on this level of restriction for 5 months now. I do feel much better physically, but emotionally I'm getting worn down. This diet will not be sustainable...
  10. I'm less than one year in, and it's extremely difficult for me. If it were just gluten I have to avoid it'd be a walk in the park. But I have literally 9 foods (incl. sea salt!) I can eat, and if I'm even barely CC'd by anything else I'm a wreck. This has been the biggest struggle of my life.
  11. Careful - I checked the Culver's website and it says their fries contain gluten!! Open Original Shared Link
  12. Well, since the last time I posted in this thread, I did two things: I stopped eating sunflower seed butter (it had trace amounts of soy), and I started taking a folic acid supplement. I have no idea whether it was one of these things that helped, or if it was just a matter of a little more healing time, but my chest/rib pain is now 90% gone. I still get...
  13. I buy all of my supplements online. If you're in the U.S., check out vitacost or Lame Advertisement - they're very good about labeling everything. Each of the supplements I buy clearly says on the label "Free of: gluten, dairy, soy, egg, etc. etc. etc." Oh man, my diet... it's depressing. Here's my exact list of safe foods: chicken, turkey, beef...
  14. I am very sensitive to corn, corn oil, dextrose, xanthan gum, etc. (basically anything related to corn messes me up!). I take quite a few supplements, and though it was a chore, I was able to find safe replacements for all of them. How occasionally do you take your adderall? If it's fairly spread out, I would start by replacing all your other supplements...
  15. Another ALSO, be very careful about your dried fruits - some brands are NOT safe. The Craisins brand is safe and declares it on the package, but there were a few other brands that are cross-contaminated. If the company makes a trail mix, chances are there's a CC issue. If your packages don't specifically state they are gluten-free, call the mfr to find...
  16. Also, Hidden Valley contains MSG, which is really hard on a lot of people. Migraines, bloating, painful gas, diarrhea... I avoid it like the plague.
  17. Yup, me too! Years before I was diagnosed I had to give up popcorn; my theory is it has something to do with those hulls irritating the intestines. Now I'm unfortunately grain-free altogether... sigh. Hope you feel better soon sandsurf!
  18. Hugs to you! I know, I've vacillated between thinking it's my heart, to maybe lung cancer, to "well, even though it feels like it's inside my chest, maybe it's really breast cancer". After reading these chest pain threads today I called my husband and my mom and told them all about it. This has seriously made my whole month!
  19. You guys, I can't tell you how reassuring this is to read! Not that I wish these sensations on anyone, but for years now I've been fairly convinced that something is so wrong with me that maybe I'd die suddenly (no joke) and doctors wouldn't figure it out until my autopsy. Thank you so much for sharing what you've shared here!
  20. Always on the left side. I've had so many tests and procedures done, thinking it was my heart, and then maybe esophageal spasming, etc... nobody has ever found anything except the celiac and a vit. D deficiency. It's reassuring that it's probably not my heart, but boy does it feel like it is!
  21. I second this. I do feel it's right to give her the info, but she also deserves a "cushion" of knowing more than just that, you know? Yes, you happen to have Celiac disease, but the fact that she made an adoption plan for you also means that you enjoyed xyz upbringing, xyz relationship with your parents, xyz opportunities, etc. You're not obligated to...
  22. Just chiming in to add that I too have had tons of rib/chest pain. For years. Not a single doctor or specialist has been able to figure out why. I was dx'd Celiac in June, but couldn't convince my dr. to do the bloodwork for vitamin/mineral deficiencies until August. My vit. D was very low (25), but still I had to push the issue to get an rx for a high...
  23. Oooh I totally want this recipe too! Pretty please! Edit: I think I found it. Snickerdoodles But dang, it's got xanthan gum! Does that not bother you, being grain-free? It's bad bad bad for me.
  24. When I eat honey I get the exact same symptoms you mentioned! It's horrible! I'm chiming in though because I eat a LOT of apples (3 a day usually) with no problem, so in my case I do not suspect a fructose problem. I too buy raw honey, and after reading these responses I wonder if the bees are fed corn syrup; I'm very very sensitive to corn (even if dextrose...
